£17.5 million plus Alvarez for Ramsey? Good deal for Arsenal?
The Gunners’ leading light Robin Van Persie has, as expected, been subject to the majority of attention in regards to his contract which expires at the end of next season. But he is not the only Arsenal player being linked with a move away from the Emirates.
The young Welshman Aaron Ramsey is also the target for some, in particular Inter Milan. With two goals and 5 assists already since the summer – including his last-gasp winner in the south of France – he has been contributing well to Arsenal’s cause but has still come under scrutiny for lacking the quality he showed last season.
Still, the Italian giants seemingly have little doubt that Ramsey is good enough for the 18-time Serie ‘A’ champions and have, according to reports, planned a £17.5 million offer. This alone seems like an acceptable deal, especially with the competing Arteta and Rosicky and the soon-to-return Diaby. Even Arsenal favourite Jack Wilshere – although only back from injury in February at the earliest – will beyond doubt eventually reclaim his first-team spot ahead of Ramsey.
The fact that Inter have thrown in one of Arsenal’s summer targets Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Alvarez to accompany the money makes it a very fair proposal, even if the Argentine hasn’t hit top form since his £10.7 million move from Velez. In the four games he has played this season, the versatile midfielder hasn’t scored or assisted but is only 23 years-old and so can still be regarded as relatively inexperienced.
Alvarez is a left-footed player, which could prove useful with Arsenal’s midfielders consisting entirely of right-footers apart from Jack Wilshere (and arguably Arteta, whose left foot is considered as good as his stronger right). Despite the ‘cutting-in’ method often working well, it might be a reasonable option to have a true left-footer to head down the wing, or even playing on the right and cutting in. He has shown that he is capable of both, as well as being content in playing defence-splitting passes through the middle.
Regardless of where he could play, though, Arsenal would be gaining a player worth over £10 million plus the substantial fee for Ramsey. Wenger may have missed out on the Argentine in the summer but perhaps a deal can still be done.
Is Ramsey as important to Arsenal as he was last season or should this sort of deal be used to fuel moves for improvement in other areas?

Ramsey has disappointed some fans because they expect him to be something he is not. He is NOT Wilshere or Fabregas with their delicate dinks and amazing passes. He is rather a player in the box-to-box mold. If you were to compare him with anyone it would be Gerrard or Lamapard. He is a great all round player: great shot, great engine, decent technique and strong tackler. He has also, indeed, shown a flair for passing with his chip for Gervinho’s goal against Stoke.
No, I would definitely keep Ramsey.

I don’t think that it is a good deal for arsenal. It is a well known fact that all arsenal players are not good enough for you guys when they are here. Ramsey is class and is getting back to his best, so there is no need to swap him for yet another inexperienced player. I think you guys want Wenger to make this deal so you can call for his head again. We don’t need to swap, sell or let the contracts on our good players run out. We need the performers plus more good players coming in, not potential. We have enough of that already.

On the face of it for the money, one would say yes but knowing well that this money will not be used to buy a quality player as good as Ramsey, I will say no. Ramsey has not reached his full potential yet because he plays poorly in some matches. At 20, he has a lot of improvements ahead of him. Please forget this deal and keep him.

no deal, alvarez is also a little bit older than ramsey.
ramsey is improving with each game, he takes a bit too many shots though, which i feel are a few wasted chances, but his shot accuracy has definatly increased! which is great.

I think these are the ideas of Ranieri. Where ever he goes he wants our good players. I personally dont think that Arsene will ever allow to loose such a promising player as Ramsey. He is one of his favourite players. But if he does allow him to go, i forsee problems.No coach has ever lasted at Inter. Very soon Raniery will get sacked and a new coach will bring his own players. He may not like Ramsey and Ramsey will definitely end up playing for one of our big rivals like Chelsea , Man United or Tottenham.

hmmm, hard decision.. Wilshire AND Ramsey together have recently been called the next Xavi and Iniesta.. but if you seperate the two (as we’ve seen in previous weeks) it seems as if Ramsey is struggling… he infact is doing very well considering his age and the hype.this choice will be varied depending on how they feel, I for one believe it will not be a wise option to split the future of Arsenal up.

Some info for those that only have eyes for the EPL & Europe. Ricky Alverez was to Velez Sarsfield what Cesc was to Arsenal i.e the heart of the attack.If you asking who Velez Sarsfield is?? They are Argentina’s top league’s Champions & Ricky Alvarez was part of that team.
Most of you’s is saying boo-hoo so what this is the EPL not the Argentian league,to give you an idea of the calibre of players that come out of this league let’s name a few, Tevez, Raqeulme, Veron, Di Marie, Pastore… In Europe everybody is glamoured by the Spanish but the true gems are the South Americans.
There is NOT ONE team in Europe that can out pass Barcelona but the last Sth-Amer opposition they had beat them 4-0 in the USA & when they played Estudiantes in the Fifa Club World Cup, Estudiantes had 65% possesion to Barcelona’s 35%, that in itself is unheard of in Europe..
To those worried about his recent form c’mon the guy is reletavily new to the Serie A plus he was bought to replace Sneider who hasn’t left??
I would not want to let go of Ramsey but let’s face it Gooners, South American players are far more technically gifted than English & European players. If we can get him & Banega of Valencia then Gunners is more than capable of beating Barca & Real home & away… That’s what an impact those two players will have on AW’s style of play!!

Ramsey has been absolutely amazing of late (apart from his shocker at Tottenham!). From his Last minute magic at Marseille to his Cesc like chipped through ball for Gervinho at Stoke Ramsey has proven to be a real Driving force in Arsenal’s Midfield. He might be worth that amount now but he will certainly be worth much more in years to come.

Been a huge fan of Rambo since his cardiff days, he played brilliantly today against chelsea, more of a direct player than Fabregas who was more flashy but Ramsey is an extremely hard worker but also technical at times and he’s never afraid to go in for a challenge even since his leg break, true bravery! An excellent gunner who we should definitely keep!
