A great night for Arsenal’s international players – and no injuries!

Posted on September 08, 2012 by admin

Arsenal international round up by KJ

As we all know, it’s the international break (as much as I hate it) and an array of Arsenal players are getting their chance to shine in their respective national teams.

I watched the entire England match which featured both Chamberlain and Walcott for the 1st and 2nd half of the game respectively.

Oxlade Chamberlain was very impressive for England. His passing, pace and all round strength was brilliant and he was always on the move. His youthful energetic approach to the game was a breath of fresh air. He also managed to get an assist that was typical of his play. He started off in the midfield and dribbled around 2 players and then used a turn of pace to exploit the midfield gap and then fed North London rival, Jermain Defoe who scored.

Walcott came on in the second half for his Arsenal team mate, Chamberlain. He didn’t really have a great game. His passing was decent but his dribbling seemed sloppy at times. No doubt due to the fact that he’s barely had any game time. He did however also manage to get an assist with a few good passes inside the box that gave Milner a shot on goal which he placed into the back of the net.

Other Arsenal players who scored/assisted were Abou Diaby and Santi Cazorla. Diaby managed to get a decent goal assisted by Benzema. All in all, I read that he’s had a very good game. Cazorla is still playing for Spain but he’s already got a goal and assist for them. He really is proving to be the midfield maestro Arsenal have been missing since Fabregas.

Mertesacker, Djourou and Vermaelan all managed clean sheets against their respective oppositions. Podolski managed a run out for Germany whilst Giroud and Koscielny didn’t feature for France.

All in all, it was a very good day for the Arsenal players with no injury complaints to be heard about. Hopefully they can all survive their midweek international call ups next week.

  7. rukky says:

Walcott has to step up his game if he stands the chance of first team football both for club and country. By the way, did diaby really have to play for 90mins?

  8. Burt says:

I have to admitt, I was the first person to knock Diaby and really thought he should have been sold due to his cronic injuries. BUT, I’m so glad he has mad me eat my words. If he stays fit, really think is gonna be one of our key players……….along with Mr Steve Bould who in such a short period of time has trnasformed our defence!! (although tougher apponents await)

    @Burt

Your admittance is a class act, I wish more would oblige. GO Diaby GO! I’ve always liked him. As I said in another post, I actually had more confidence in Diaby than RVP to recover. This is the Frenchman’s year to show how good he really is! Don’t get me wrong I still worry about his fitness but then again every gooner does.

If we continue with the 4132 formation that we played at anfield then walcott will be competing with giroud for his place in the team. he is not technocally gifted enough to play in the 3 but his pace will scare the life out of central defenders and he could be a real alternative to giroud. a telling pass from any of our attacking midfielders will send walcott beyond the last man and then its all about whether he can finish. i think in this formation we have 2 very strong teams plus even a third team including the likes of fabianski squillaci miquel frimpong arshavin chamakh that could deal with the domestic cup opposition from the lower leagues.

    gk – szcesney mannone fabianski
    rb – sagna jenkinson eastmond
    cb – mertesacker djourou squillaci
    cb – vermaelen koscielny miquel
    lb – gibbs santos henderson
    dm – arteta coquelin frimpong
    ram – wilshire chamberlain gnabry
    cam – diaby ramsey eisfeld
    lam – cazorla rosicky arshavin
    s – giroud walcott chamakh
    s – podolski gervinho watt

ok there are one or two positions in the 2nd and 3rd teams that could be improved mainly defensively where the likes of santos squillaci eastmond and henderson are either not good enough or would be better in other positions. also in the third team arshavin chamakh and watt could be improved upon but as third choice players they are decent enough options.

lets not forget these 2 under 21 teams are also on the books or out on loa
    martinez
    hajrovic boateng angha meade
    yennaris
    Ebicilio aneke ryo
    afobe campbell

    shea
    bellerin hayden monteiro bhimoutine
    wynter
    galindo toral olsson
    roberts wellington

and dont even get me started on the under 18s. Some of whom are already playing for the reserves. wenger and brady have assembled a massive top quality squad even with our 17 departures this summer that are capable of winning at least 2 first team trophies as well as the 4 academy trophies.

  13. Emka says:

Imo, it is on the LB and RB we are looking the most vulnerable right now in case of injuries. Santos should never play LB, it is a waste of his offensive skills. He should always play CAM,LAM or RAM as he is very dangerous going forward. But i guess he does the job ok at LB too, but i rather see someone more reliable defensivly there. Mbiwa would have been a great addition in the transfer window as he can play CB/LB/RB but the kid seems to be determined on AC Milan if he moves…

i still can’t believe dat arteta did not get a place in the team, for me he is better than alonso and definitely better than busquet since he joined arsene wenger
