AC Milan v Arsenal line-up – Wenger should start with Ramsey and Gibbs?
So, the Milan game is creeping closer and, I must admit, I am getting ever more excited. An Arsenal win would be the perfect boost to pick me up in the middle of a fairly dreary week. I have been giving due consideration as to what side Le Prof might field. I think that we can all agree that we will see our strongest available team stepping onto the San Siro; opponents don’t get much tougher than AC Milan. The question which remains, however, is: what is Arsenal’s strongest line-up at the moment?
There are obvious absentees (i.e. Wilshere and Diaby) while there are several other positions which would give Wenger a headache. One of them is the CAM position; I have already gone into some detail about who I prefer out of Rosicky and Ramsey (essentially, I said that I would rotate them) but, for this game, I would have to opt for Ramsey. This is for the simple reason that we are on Milan’s ground and will be sure to need to chase the ball and game on several occasions. Our Welsh steam engine will be very useful when it comes to pressing a quick and strong Milan side. Don’t forget, if things need speeding up, Rosicky can always be brought on at half time.
The next position to be decided is the left-back slot. Now, Kieran Gibbs was on the bench on Saturday so this implies that he is available for selection. There is the argument that we shouldn’t put in a player, who isn’t match fit, straight into a huge game like this one. Normally, I would agree, but the injury to Per Mertesacker against Sunderland changes things greatly. If we do not play Gibbs, Vermaelen will surely have to play on the left (Miquel is, for me, too inexperienced), meaning that Djourou would be drafted into the middle. I think that Djourou could be a good player but, after seeing his performance against Nani, I can already feel my blood pressure rising at the prospect of him being pitted against Ibrahimovic and Robinho. For this reason, I say that we train hard with Gibbs and take a gamble with him tomorrow.
The rest of the team pretty much picks itself (as Gervinho is not yet recovered from the ACN) so my starting XI would look like this:
Sczcesny
Sagna – Kosciely – Vermaelen – Gibbs
Arteta – Song
Ramsey
Walcott – RVP – Chamberlain
And then my subs bench of:
Fabianski, Djourou, Rosicky, Chamakh, Arshavin, Coquelin

no doubt i will go in with the same line-up….but would just check-on that the OX is not fatigued…if so..then let arshavin start…if not…let him loose over MILAN…he would RUN SAN-SIRO RIOT….COME ON THE OX…COME-ON ARSENAL!!!

I think coquelin did well when asked to play dat role when all our left backs were all injured including TV5. So d french man should start in left back.

I generally agree with your line up with 2 exceptions: Le Coq in place of Gibbs. Rosicky instead of princess Ramsey (coz he won’t be able to handle AC’s dynamic play in the middle of the park). One more thing: The donkey Djourou should never play for AFC again!!!

tv5 hv cme out n said he fed up with the leftback role. if gibbs ready start him on the left. if nt gve him only around 15-20 mins in the scond half. coquelin start in the right,sagna in the left. or otherwise. draw or 1-2 win maybe. hope we cn win cmfortably n cn bring the lead to the emirates with an easy tasks n huge cnfidence in the scond leg, ahead of the fa cup 5th round n also the spudsy match!

ok2u guys dnt agree with song in the middle. i jst think he done well when he been in the centre.if he plays as an holding midfield.he sometimes keep losing posesion.bt when he at the centre back. he intercept the ball well n drive frward to gve that killer pass.
yet i agree with the admin lineup. dnt sure if gibbs ready tho. ramsey? ?if ge does play. hope he stop slide around like being around skating field n that pirouete kinda stuff mkes me dizzy.what frustating he loses the ball n slow up the attack.hope aftr hes rest he cn prove somethng wrong. myb rosicky hv a tired legs. aslong as evryone put on a great show!

I would rather see Rosicky start as I believe after finally getting a run of games hes showing his talent, the guy in my opinion is a class CM and always has been, just never been given the chance where as I feel Ramsey slows down the play to often, considering were playing an Italian team, whos country/league play is normally at a slow tempo I think we should keep it as high as possible. If Walcott plays how we all know he can tomorrow then I think AC’s defense will get terrorised. Also lets not forget what happened when Bale visited the SanSiro with Spurs, perhaps Chambo is to follow in his footsteps, both ex Soton, both broke into the first team around the same time… both beat Milan on their own?
As for defense, I would quite like to see Yennaris at RB and Sagna in at LB, with Kosc and TV at CB. I think Yennaris is a class defender with a lot of composure, if not put Coquilan in there. What ever AW does I beg him to not play Djourou or Squallaci at CB.

The strongest line up certainly doesn’t contain Walcott thats for sure. Yes he has got speed nut will he use it, and then if yes is his finishing up to scratch? Better to stick Oxelaide and Arshavin on the wing, and get Henry on late with Walcott and Ramsey. Other than that everyone else who played on Saturday should start with Coquelin in leftback.

I think that Rosicky should start over Ramsey because of experience. The issue of Gibbs should be decided by Wenger based on his fitness level.

Why not start Conquelin at the Outside Back position? he has already proven that he can play that position very well in the absences of gibbs and santos and sagna. Start him at the outside back and pair Vermaleen in the middle with koscielny. Then all four backs have the spped and experience to compete with Robinho or Ibrahimovic.

don’t get upset, but i would rest arteta as we need more creativity and sideways and backward passes clamped down on. His good and consistent but looks a bit shy.

Rosicky should start in front of Ramsey. He works harder and provides more creativity.
Gibbs has not played in a while and should be rested until the Sunderland FA Cup match where he can start. it’s a shame we lost Merts as it now means Vermaelen will play in his preferred role as CB. I wish he could play LB as Kevin Prince Boateng can be a handful.

What is wrong with all of you who prefer Rosicky over Ramsey. Don’t get me wrong Rosicky is a great player but every through ball he tries to put through for VP or Walcott never makes its target or get intercepted. I mean creativity is good but failing at that creativity is bad. I prefer Ramsey in that position because his passes go where he wants them to. But for this match i would change it up and put Henry as centre attacking mid as it is his last match and would be something unexpected. my line up would go:

There’s no way Wenger should thrust Gibbs into this type of situation given he’s played a couple of matches this year. I would take Coquelin’s inexperience over Gibbs lack of playing time. I happen to think Le Coq is a gamer. He wants to compete in the big games no matter the position. He’s a utility guy every team needs Plus, Milan’s 4-3-1-2 formation is very narrow, so there won’t be much pressure on the fullbacks from the outside anyways. Start Rosicky based on form and experience. Plus Ramsey is more of a threat as a sub. Also, I put Sagna out left to support OX. My XI would be: GK-Szczesny,
