The rollercoaster ride that is Arsenal has begun to loop round once again this season. From the sublime to the ridiculous; who am I kidding – from the average to the ridiculous? What is compelling about our underperformance this season is the fact that we have failed to score in 33% of our games this season. We have played twelve games and fired blanks on four occasions which demonstrates that this team has lost its ability to penetrate in the final third. The Carrow Road syndrome was repeated tonight against better opposition and we were severely outclassed. To manage one measly shot on target against an average European side at home is without doubt a disgrace.
I know the readers always have a pop and moan that I only surface to kick Arsenal when they’re down, however, if Arsenal were consistent as I in my writing then at least I may not have to write. We are ten points off the pace in the Premier League and slipped to second in our Champion’s League group. Growing up watching the various players who shone week in week out on the pitch seems distant history and this current crop of players are disrespecting their legacy. Arsene Wenger is stubborn and is quite simply blinded if he believes this team can challenge for major trophies once again.
Arsenal built an identity which branded them worldwide as the original pass masters. Barcelona has emulated the class and panache that we used to possess. It feels like Barcelona has stolen Arsenal’s mojo! The simple fact is that we have continued to make a transfer profit by selling world class stars and replacing them with second rate no-hopers! This trend has diminished the quality that is on show season after season and the technical ability to play the Arsenal way is not there! Although the current squad is not as strong it still is no excuse for not being able to beat teams like Norwich, Stoke or Sunderland.
There are several players in the Arsenal team that could walk into most teams but there is a clear lack of depth in some areas. We have an abundance of central midfield playmakers with exceptional passing ability but lack a ruthless goal scorer or out and out winger. We only have one left back and Andre Santos wouldn’t look out of place at Ipswich Town. His performance tonight was so bad I cringed every time he was ten yards near the ball. Jenkinson has done very well but he is certainly no Sagna. Mannone is a liability and looks like Almunia is disguise. Yes we have several key players out but so does every side. Barcelona has practically no defence due to injury and when they let in four they scored five. Arsenal used to have that arrogance to their play that it didn’t matter how many they let in they would still win.
Cast your minds back to when we were sublime and were winning silverware it would be impossible to even comprehend that we would not score. I even think we went two years scoring in every Premier League game consecutively. The story that we have failed to net in a third of our games this season proves we miss Van Persie. Whilst Arsenal season ticket holders stomp up to £2,000 per annum to watch them lose to inferior opposition and Manchester United fans pay up to £950 per annum to see trophies won it makes you wonder why? Why does Arsenal charge the fans the double its closest rivals to not deliver nearly as many positive results on the pitch? We have the armchair fans obnoxiously state at least we are well run and have so much cash sitting on deposit earning interest. How dare you be proud that we are so prudent when we will continue to emulate Liverpool.
It is very simple Arsene will end this season without any silverware yet again. If we finish fourth I will be pleasantly surprised as this team is far too volatile and can lose to anybody. I still do not know how we can lose to teams like Norwich when their best players couldn’t even play for our reserves. Arsene Wenger is past it and we need Pep Guardiola to build on his original legacy before this cretin ruins his legacy. If he is allowed to continue to sink this ship with the world’s worst board we should all just accept things will only get worse. It is sad to see this once classy club eroding into the fabrics of history where what is left is an efficient business.

I don’t think Wenger is solely to blame. He is expected to perform miracles with the present financial policy of the club.
We can say what we like and remain delusional but reality is that we have not replaced RVP!! We need not only a player with his goal scoring ability but more importantly his leadership and presence of the pitch.
The board needs to increase the weekly pay ceiling or we will never get the caliber of player to replace RVP. It was a big mistake to loose RVP and we can only blame the board for this!!
We now facing the outcome of a stubbornness at board level. This no compromising attitude is not helping the club on or off the field!! It could take years to undo this situation.

We lose 2 games after some great games bar Chelsea and everyone freaks out and thinks there’s no turning back and we are destined to fail and that Arsene Wenger should be sacked. I had stopped commenting on this page for quite some time introspecting whether I was too harsh on AW or Arsenal Board who according to me were taking us ( the fans & supporters ) of Arsenal for granted….
Look…we as fans can differ…some may think AW’s philosophy is the right while I,like many others feel that it’s completely faulty model that he has approached…
Don’t want to say more but the recent history at our club & the exodus of all good players ( how many should we name ???? ) from Arsenal clearly shows the flaw & the sooner we realise the better it is for our beloved club…and I’m not saying just because we had 2 pathetic days ( against Norwich & Schalke )…
If you look at the overall squad, apart from Cazorla. Vermealan & Arteta you would struggle to find quality…injuries are a part of every side…Vidic and Ferdinand had been plagued with injuries for the last one year…But Man U doesn’t perform like this.,….and btw, before some donkeys jump into the nadwagon of telling me to go & support Man U, for yr record, I hate Man U…But at the same time I’m pragmatic enough to applaud their business model which has given them so much success….
Seeing Ramsey playing at Right Wing actuallu shows us about our players’ profile….
I don’t know where’s the end…but the prophecy of gloom suggests that this year we can be the worst hit in PL…. Pls note no team is any more afraid of playing against Arsenal…even minnows like QPR ( last in the fray )are suggesting that they look forth to beat Arsenal & turn their fortunes around…need we say more ????

Welcome back Adam.. You no what whenever you post something, that means negativity is in the air.. But srsly i have to agree wid u on 1 point about tkt prices. MANUres fans pay so less to see their team earning titles and we keep on boasting about financial stability.. What can we do? We need to change philosophy of 1 striker or sumthng like that. Now teams watch us play and see our weaknesses in previous games. Now schalke had played total counter attacking football against us and we were having most of the fruitless possession. 4-2-3-1 is gud fr retaining possession and diamond midfield with 2 strikers is for winning titles… Sumthng has to change .. nt sure wenger though..

Honestly never been so happy to see u post except now cos I think only you can speak in how bad we are right now, I have to say I feel bad for those who paid that price for tickets, its insane and just hypocrisy for a man who preaches about not spending huge amounts on player and against high wages players demand. All in all I still don’t think our current squad is that bad, I just don’t know why they can’t give 100% when on the pitch, their mentality and attitudes to matches are really poor and must be fixed, we lost to norwich out of nowhere that was meant to be the beginning of a good run of games, as a fan, really disappointed.

Sorry Adam, but although you raise some good points, Pep will not win us anything. He has grown up in the Barca system, and has had the fortune to have the worlds best players as a collective to manage. Throw him into Arsenal, and you honk he will shine? You think he can turn things around? You are deluded. Pep won’t know where to start.
We need an injection of cash to buy proven world class players. Hazard did NOT need a settling in period. Neither did Oscar. RVP has pretty much picked up where he left off at ManUre. Apart from Cazorla we have not bought players who are world class. We lack too much in our team to make the style of play we want to work. Between the headless chicken up front, and turtle like replacement LB, we still think our ‘system’ will work. It’s like giving a F1 racing driver a Ford Escort, and expecting him to win the British Gand Prix! When the injuries happen (and God knows we do injuries well), thats when our team becomes exposed and we see what we really have – no striker, a couple of midfielders who carry the weight, a couple of defenders who are doing their best, and captain (who I am realising) probably should not be … He doesn’t seem to be leading well, and a manager who will NOT change his game plan! For everything I hate about Chel$h!t, they pay for quality, and the result is … Winning.
Top players = Top money. That doesn’t mean you can’t overpay for a crap player, but if you want true quality – you need to pay for it. (yes you may pick up a bargain here and there – Cazorla, Arteta … ) but you can’t build a team on bargains.
And it all starts with the very top. Where is the f#*kwit Gasidiz now? Where is his talk of FFP? Mean f#*k all if all we do is lose. Wanna know who I blame? It’s those greedy overpaid executives who are happy to take all the credit when things are going well, but cower away and throw the manager under the bus when because of their tight ar*es tie the one of the managers arms behind his back, and then will eventually blame him. Pep or Klopp are favorite for Wenger’s position because of their brand of football and although klopp is unknown, he has won the bundensliga without star players even defeating bayern 5 times in the process is no mean feat.Wenger should move on an take another position maybe CEO,CHAIRMAN or CHIEF SCOUT so as he can implement his policy without affecting the fans. i think what we need is getting prestige that should be via silverwares but the board of Arsenal is only after making money and so the club should be sold to somebody who impose for strengthening,and the mentality of selling a player at a very high price and replacing with a 10 times faded price player must stopped and even wenger love football but has failed to coach because everybody knows his tactics and weaknesses and should be replaced.

Although i agree that wenger should be seriuosly questioned and rightly under fire,i dont think guardiola is the answer,i can see him trying to make too many changes to soon and do a bit of a ‘villas-boas’ however wenger isnt the only one to blame here..players are badly letting us down by underperforming and showing real lack of effort..and then feeling sorry for themselves,i mean some errors have been really,really basic and no manager can be blamed for the lack of motivation showed by some players..i think its highlighted by vermaelen this season,hes our captain and not many could have argued with that at the start of the season but i think hes been really poor this season,hes one of many but that just sums it up for me

I miss Alex Song so so so much. Both Song and Diaby are good. but i would rather keep Song. the reason is very simple. Song is consistent. Looking the current squad, no one can match them in terms of both physical and techniques.
on Left wing, if boss wants to play Santos, we must use Genvinho or Arshavin, he can not play Podlski with Santos. on right, without Theo and Ox, i would rather give Gnabry/Eisfeld more chances. in the centre of the park, let’s pray Diaby will stay fit. otherwise, gamble when Jan window open or watch games on Thursday next season.

I have to say i dont agree about the level of quality at the club, i think its about time we all stop talking about spending big money and concentrate onthe strenth’s we have such as a creative midfield, excluding Ramsey im sorry to say but creative none the less. For me i believe we have a group of players strong enough to contend but we need consistancy in the team selections. Stop the silly wingers playing up front and go back to basics such getting the ball in the box, getting players in the box and build a proper 1st team who can get used to playing with each other week in and week out. Arsene wenger is a quality manager, yes sometimes his decision making example teams selection, substitutions are frustrating but continues to keep arsenal in the top four year in and year out. if you could find a manager that consistantly proves that level of ability at a club like arsenal please do say… can you think of anyone? We keep talking about the style of football arsenal play well as with everything times change you have to build on the basics getting the ball to the strikers they are called that because they are meant to score (hard to do when on the bench) stop the building around the box and start going back to basic straight balls, especially if the quality of shooting from outside the box is poor.

What happened last night was clear for all to see. This group of players showed absolutely no passion, wayward passing, poor inter play, it was there for all to see. If we get a couple of injuries to key players, we fall to pieces because we have absolutely no depth. All that money in the bank looks great and I congratulate the financial business acumen of the club but if they (the money men) want this gravy train to go on rolling, then they must invest in good solid players with not only skill but determination, to win win win. Last night we saw a bunch of headless chickens with no leadership and no desire. Not everyone in that group played badly but it’s time for each and everyone of them to take a long hard look at themselves and for the board to remember where their revenue comes from. A very sorry day for a GREAT club. If this goes on, I fear the result at QPR, who showed last week they are prepared to fight for their lives.

I went to the game last night, and the atmosphere from our fans were terrible. There were 2000 schalke fans making 10x more noise than us, and when we started to chant they just did it twice as loud as us. I’m not saying we lost because we had no atmosphere but for the home team to see the away fans making louder noise and dancing etc it must be fustrating. The only thing the arsenal fans did well last night was moan when we lost the ball. We need to show more support to the team and chant louder and get the atmosphere better.

I dont honestly know what to think at the moment. Wenger is still a genius in my eyes but maybe the team does need a fresh approach. I think the football we use to play was incredible BUT we use to have a team full of incredible players. These days we have a few top quality players and the rest are good but sadly aren’t good enough to play the type of football Wenger wants. Something we have struggled with for many years is not having a plan B, now that we have a plan B (well sort of) we unfortunately don’t have a good enough team to play plan A. I’m not blaming anyone in the team as its not their fault if theyre not good enough. Im not going to call for Santos or Ramsey’s head either because it’s a team game and all of our players need to take responsibility! Who out of last nights performances for Arsenal can honestly say they deserved to be on the winning team? Not one, everybody made mistakes and to put the blame solely on Santos and Ramsey’s shoulders is ludicrous! Santos was given no protection whatsoever and was constantly being left in a one on one situation. Yes he isn’t the greatest defender but nobody would look good if for almost 90mins they were left to fend for themselves against somebody with the pace of Farfan!
Unfortunately if we continue to sell our top players we will continue to struggle! Simple as that. If we continue to be a feeder club then we shouldnt expect to compete with the teams we keep selling our best players to! The board made their decision a long time ago that they wanted Arsenal to be a club that makes money. The board don’t care if we dont win anything or whether the fans are happy or not just as long as they keep making money. Fine for them…definitely not fine for me!

I believed that it’s not wenger fault but the board fault. Really, the board should stop acting like a coward and hide behind wenger’s back while wenger get all the criticism. I really dunno how you guys feel when watching Arsenal at the stadium. I mean, I can’t even take it while watching on TV. What have the board done to us? Happy counting the annual fee like what Adam Kemp mentioned while we fans are suffering. For the first time I agree with Kemp, but I am still on wenger side. More and more players want more money nowadays and hence Wenger is already doing a miracle to keep the team on Top 4 every season while you see Liverpool, spending 100m and yet nothing.
If the board gives Wenger 100m and tell him not to worry about finance, I am sure we won’t see mediocre players in the team and instead, seeing our glory days again.
So get Gazidis out, he is absolutely useless when giving speeches except saying how rich the club is. And the freaking board who is causing all these despair to us. Give Wenger a break and come face the fans yourself.

This is not about money alone! Yes money would help but a player is not rated on his salary. He is rated on his performance and experience. Paying more usualy buys experienced winners and experienced winners injects confidence into any side. Most of this Arsenal squad are only experienced in losing or being a runner-up. NOT winning on a regular basis will only allow belief and encouragement to ba affected. The more you lose (finish with nothing), the more you sink into a rutt. It’s natural. The fact that Arsenal have sold almost 100% of it’s best players over the last 10 years is living proof but yet it seems like things will continue in this way for AFC. January will come and go, Arsene will tell us he has “belief” in his players and will not be buying, bla bla bla. Summer will come and go and, well you know the story.. On-ward and down-ward..

The fact that wenger switched to using Gervinho as CF, after he sold RVP, and Giroud sits on the bench shows that wenger is a failure! He bought Giroud to replace Van persie, score goals for Arsenal. Converting Gervinho is desperation, it shows he is a failure in the transfer market. Wenger is past his prime, his game plan is predictable, subs are predictable, we even know the time 70-75 mins, he acts like a programmed robot, you can not approach every game with the same game plan. Wenger should go! Arsenal is far bigger than Wenger!… He may be our best coach in history,so far, but there is a start and finish to every career, I think its time to go. We all saw the impact of the sack of AVB to chelsea, the team will feel re-juvinated. 7-8 years without a trophy is absolutely unacceptable.

Like I posted somewhere else, some Arsenal fans, blame everything else,from the grass on the field, to the opponents’ tactics, to the Water bottle and then to our players, but they never blame Wenger.If the head is sick, the whole body will be sick.It all starts from the head.If the head/manager has a week attitude and an ‘anything goes’ mindset, it will translate to the players.I for one, dont believe that Manu’s players are better than our players comparatively(with exception of VP and Rooney) but their manager makes the difference. Are we saying that Schalke’s central defence, has more pedigree than Per, a German team regular and Vermaleen, the Beligian team regular? Are we saying that the central midfield of Schalke is beter than Carzola, Arteta and Podolski? Anyone that wants to be sincere, after watching our first two Champions league matches, would agree that though we won, Montpelier had very glaring chances to score us and so did Olympiakos. Why dont we ask our selves critical questions? Park started only one premiership game for us last season but he is now a regular at Celta Vigo. Vela could get no joy from Wenger but he is part of the mainstay at Real Sociedad. Players leave Wenger and Arsenal and immediately, start winning things and playing a lot better than they used to. Is it possible, just a little possible that the problem could be Wenger and not the players? Wenger brigade would always point to the past but Hello! First of all, my season ticket costs £350 and my daughters £900 so that proves campy that you know absolutely NOTHING about A.F.C.
Secondly, we have had two terrible games, no excuses at all for the performance it was dire.
How did Shitty and Chelsky do in their games? I mention this because you always use them as clubs who buy the best players..Shitty dont look as if they will even qualify..but they are the club we should try and emulate??

Wenger doesn’t really seem to have a plan B. He’s fairly stubborn. We play the Arsenal way regardless of who we play or where. Which is admirable to an extent, but at this level you need a plan B, C and probably a plan D as well. Our squad is pretty average though. It doesn’t compare name for name well against Chelsea, United and City’s lists, let alone other clubs like Barca, Real and even PSG. I don’t blame Wenger, though he’s the manager and ultimately responsible. I’d blame the board and the goose who does the contracts offering hugely average players (Denilson, Bendtner, Chamakh) relatively high wages and world class players like RVP not very much. Lots need to happen in and out for us to be truly competitive. Unfortunately that most likely will not happen any time soon. I expect us to lose Walcott in Jan and replace him with Gnarby. I’d be absolutely stunned if he stayed without signing a contract or that he left and we actually replaced him with a proven, senior player like Navas. Or even Joaquin of Malaga, would be the cheap option. But he and Isco have played in the CL this season, so I don’t expect either to be moving anywhere.

As much as i hate to agree, he’s right, Wenger has challenge for the Champions league 15 times and not won it a single time (thats a ration of 0 – 15), people talk about what Wenger has done for us, but they forget to mention what he hasn’t done for us, he hasn’t won a single bit of silverware in over 7 years, he hasn’t managed to keep a single one of our play makers when they express a desire to leave, he hasn’t won anything for half the time he has been here and he stubbornly refuses to change he policy on signing new players.
The money is there, I agree our board of directors are crap, but not because there is no money, but because they are not in touch with the game or the fans, i will agree with that, but regardless of this, the MONEY is there, but Wenger refuses to spend it
For people to sit there still delusional about what Wenger has done for the club, they ten to forget that better managers have been outed for lesser things, the reason why Wenger is still there is because the board of directors are out of touch with everything. Arsenal have been a successful team long before Wenger came into the club and will be a successful team long after he leaves, and i believe he has to go for us to progress.
