Adam Kemp: Arsene’s Ignorance is solely behind the demise of Arsenal FC

Posted on January 23, 2012 by admin

Arsene Wenger is the most ignorant manager in the Premier League which has been the sole catalyst for the severe lack of success on the pitch. The performance against Manchester United demonstrates some valid points about the inefficient management style of Wenger. He is a very stubborn man and sticks to some philosophies that will never work. A great manager is someone who is inventive, decisive and most importantly reflective.

Reflective practise is the ability for the manager to reflect on his actions to engage in a process of continuous learning. He repeats the same mistakes over and over again without reinvention of his philosophies of the reflection of severe failure. Arsene is a man with the world at his feet in a job that so few would have the privilege to ever contemplate doing. He has substantial resources at his disposal to help Arsenal become one of the greatest sides in world football. He opts to make strange commercial decisions and strange tactical decisions which have royally screwed the club.

I will look at the current situation involving the decisions surrounding selection of the team and transfer dealings. Since all of our full backs were crocked we have averaged just one goal a game and he has continuously deployed centre backs in these areas. Every time Djourou has played at full back these season the word horrendous would be somewhat of a compliment. A basic rule of defending in the full back area is making sure you are tight to the wide man when they are in possession. All first half he sat off Nani and Giggs and invited pressure eventually leading to United’s goal. Wenger should have gone out and bought a couple of full backs and his ignorance is dumbfounding. There are available players on the market that could come in and do a job to ensure that we pick up vital points.

Wenger is a disgrace for not investing in full backs immediately at the start of the New Year as his ignorance to address this area has had repercussions on the field. What manager in his right mind cannot see that playing four centre backs will reduce the team’s ability going forward? He cannot learn from his mistakes and bemoans refereeing decisions and injuries as an excuse. How about address the problems within the squad and tactically develop a method that will ensure results on the pitch. Arsenal over the past five seasons on player transfers alone sit top of the Premier League for net profit. Clubs like Wigan, Fulham and Swansea have outspent us compared to money recouped for player sales. 60,000 plus fans pay excessive ticket prices season after season whilst record profits pour into the club accumulating far too much excess cash.

There is a substantial transfer budget there and Wenger’s ignorance to spend on top quality players is running our chances of future success. We are on the verge of Europa League qualification and the manager seems uninspired to reflect on his own performance. He would rather create a player than spend big on the real deal. He has great success in developing younger players into becoming top class senior professionals. The problem is that when these players have developed they see no opportunity to win silverware and decide to seek trophies elsewhere. This would explain the substantial profit margin where his arrogance and insanity is coming back to bite him in the backside.

The decision to eventually start Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was a revelation with an exceptional full league debut. Arsharvin has been useless all season and it has taken Wenger six months to reflect and make the change. Or so we thought! We were firmly in the driving seat at 1-1 with the momentum firmly dictated by Chamberlain. Then the idiot that is Arsene decides to take him off and replace him with the lazy Russian. Why? Why? Why? Arshavin’s wonderful assist to Welbeck was typical by his lacklustre defensive display. So we lost our momentum and put on an out of form liability that cost us the match. The score should be adapted to Arsenal 1 – 2 Wenger! Two tactical decisions that singlehandedly cost us another three points! A three match losing streak has put us firmly out of the title race!

When did Arsenal ever talk about finishing fourth as an achievement? Our goal is to win the Premier League and not just to remain one of the top four clubs. Arsenal is a club that should be challenging for trophies and not merely playing for fourth spot. You would have thought Wenger would have reflected on his past summer dealings where despondent players left at a cut price as he could not sign them to a new deal. RVP amongst other first team players will have a year left on their contracts at the end of the season and yet has he secured them to new terms? The same old nostalgic stubbornness and lack of reflection will cause us another summer of speculation.

The board will justify another season ticket hike by the lack of revenue form the Champions League whilst they make another substantial profit from player sales. Wenger has a squad of many talented players whom if managed by another manager would be achieving far more success. I would happily give Martin O’Neil the opportunity to manage a big club over this ignorant piece of rubbish any day of the week. O’Neil made Villa a decent side with limited resources and singlehandedly moved Sunderland half way up the league. Fabio Capello is another manager who has reflected on his world cup failure.

He decided to look towards the younger talents that England has to showcase and adapt various tactical systems to accommodate change. He omitted Theo Walcott from the world cup squad due to his lack of consistent performances on the pitch. He makes decisions for the right reasons whereas Wenger insists on playing some players that do not perform to the required level that we as paying fans expect. If I was manager I would have dropped Arsharvin to the reserves and would have told him that he has one month to prove why he deserves to play for me again. Wenger does not have the balls to offload players that are underperforming and replace them with better players. Fergie is happy to leave Berbatov on the bench and use players that get him the right result.

Arsene Wenger is a poison within Arsenal FC seeping through the veins of all you fans who blindly follow him into the abyss. You all accept seven seasons of absolute garbage as almost adequate because of his legendary status based on his past successes. The man is a failure and his senile traits are imbedded in the culture of the club. The resources that this club has deserve to be unleashed into the team in order to make us a force once again. We are in danger of becoming the next Liverpool and the ignorance of our manager has crushed our hopes of winning silverware this season.

Love Arsenal, hate Wenger!

Wenger is to blame for Arsenal failure. He has failed to buy quality players and reteined weak ones like Chamaka, ASharvin, Johana DJuhour, park,Alumunia,Diaby, and to some extent Danilison. He should sell them and get players fitting in Asernal.Ithink since the departure of Denis Dein ASERNAL started colpsing and it will find its self not even competing for the Europa.Loosing three games in arow is a good testimony. I have lost interest in watching Asernal games this season. I wish asernal good luck.

I`m of the opinion that Wenger should resign at the end of the season. Like many others I`ve supported him and tried to understand his ways but enough is enough.
When looking for a replacement we have to take into account the board of dirctors. Wenger has these in his pocket ,a new manager may not be so fortunate. If he`s too weak he won`t make any impression, if he`s too strong the board will `block supply` as it were. So, it`s not just a football problem but a political one.
On the player front I can`t see RVP staying…sorry!

Exceptional players can be the needed push from which the average ones can gain. Someone has to put Arsene on his feet, he deels way to comfy. Hill wood and kronke have said this to Wenger and now he lines his pockets in his % share every year now! Where was pat rice yesterday with that substitution why didnt he say no boss that’s a shocking decision give it 10 minutes? Why is crimping out on loan when he bleeds arsenal? Jacks injury is burn out due to lack of depth in squad, and how when the manager know we won’t gave our first choice full backs for upto six more weeks have we not signed two? In Arsene we RUST

All of us are talking about signing big star players but the fact is that Arsene has lost his mojo as manager. Many star players wont come to Arsenal as they dont see arsene as a great manager anymore.

If we still had a great manager we could buy any player in the world. Even Van Persie is confused by wenger as could be seen in yesterdays decision.

We will continue to lose our star players and I know that we wont keep Van Persie long and some one like OX will probably leave in the near future.

I am a die hard Arsenal fan but it kills me to see what is happening.

We are not becoming the next Liverpool but it looks like we are the next Liverpool. Sad but true.

Sorry to say but I dont believe in Arsene anymore. He is very arroganant and even after the gami in the interview you could see his arrognance. Sick of this crap. We as fans are Arsenal and not Wenger.

I have also supported wenger’s decisions over the years until yesterday, I still respect him but He has finally lost the plot and its time for Him to leave, you dont do the same over and over again and except different results. Arshavin, Djorou, Charmack, Squillaci, Mannone, Diaby, Denilson, Benthner, Fabianski, Benayoun, Almunia are all mediocres and wont add anything to the team, get reid of them and bring in 2,3,4 class player and blend them with the young ones we have but instead Wenger will stick with them and He will never learn. I will advised Arsene not to bring these players I just mentioned to Nigeria.

Wenger, you have undoubtedly been an absolute legend and a figure of the club that we have all loved and respected because you are one of those elite managers who makes a difference just out of sheer talent at what he does. But I can tell every gooner what difference he is making now, and the difference is that he is driving his own legacy into the dirt to save his pride. For all his qualities, Wenger is not one to admit that he has been wrong and for this I am fast running out of patience. For years, countless excuses as to why we haven’t signed anyone of real quality, why he persists with absolute BULLSH*T players is well beyond the belief of all arsenal fans. He has to have a real think about what he wants to be remembered as when he eventually leaves our beloved club, for all of his success will not save him from the wrath of the fans if he continues on his current quest of dismantling arsenal from the inside.

  38. Big Gun says:

@True Gooner. Last time I checked Chelsea are still in the race and are in top 4. So Mata is actually happy he did not sign for Arsenal, because let’s face it, Chelsea at least have the balls to buy players when needed. Arsenal have had defensive woes for 3 seasons now and little has been done to rectify the situation. We had the chance to buy Samba last transfer, and we still do but either the board or Wenger would rather wait a season for our other defenders to recover, and in that space of time rely on players like donkey Djoure. It’s a no brainer, Samba is not just a quick solution, he is a long term investment. He still said he wants to leave Blackburn. What the F is Wenger waiting for?

Also our midfield is very average. Without Wilshere, we struggle to hold and have that creative spark. Ramsey loses the ball way too often, he just is not good enough.
He is a bench player at best. For now, although I agree Walcott is not consistent enough, but I wouldn’t be in such a hurry to sell him. His speed is a great attribute and is more useful than anything else.

Great article, Wenger has made terrible in game decisions and substitutions of late. I’m not even going to bother mentioning all the managerial mistakes, they should be obvious by now. The problem we have with some fans who still think Wenger is the man for the job, is because they are still riding the Invincibles train that unfortunately departed 6 seasons ago. Wake up and smell it people, this will be the 7TH trophy less season, and CL football is hanging by a thread. Things have only gotten worse in the last couple of years and will continue to do so. Also, we have such great up and coming talent, Ox, Yennaris, Wilshere, Campbell, Bartley to name a few. Now imagine these players playing next to guys like Samba, Baines, Gotze, Hazard, Podolski. Arsenal would be such a strong squad, we would dominate. Why Wenger or the board cannot just allocate the funds to buy these types of players. I mean Samba, Gotze and Matias Suarez/Podolski. Those 3/4 players would make a significant change to the team, and when combined with talent like Wilshere, Ox, RvP, Vermalaen, Kossie, Sagna basically all our good players, it would be another Invincibles team. Why Wenger and the board cannot see that is beyond me. It’s almost like he doesn’t want Arsenal to win. Wenger’s glory days are over and he is just ruining his once fine reputation he used to have.

Which manager in his right sense will continue to make the same mistake repeatedly every game, and every season, how on earth could this stubborn and arrogant Wenger substitute OX and replaced him a very lazy, weak, useless, Arshavin who in my opinion and many Arsenal fans opinions should have been shown the door last season. We lost the game at home to United yesterday not because we have a bad team, but because we have a bad manager with ” I don’t care” attitude who is settling for a fourth place while others a going for the trophies, that is a shameful statement from a man of his status…Gunners 4 Life…Wenger 2 go NOW.

Some of you fans slate anyone who merely suggests that Arsene should go as sick in the head. Of course we have to remember what Wenger has done. Noone is denying that. But how far do you have to stoop to see it’s not working.
It hasn’t been working for a few seasons now.
Injuries are an easy excuse to use. Every team has them, we have more than anyone each year and still nothing changes.
You mention we are working to a budget. All clubs are apart from the Man City’s and Chelsea’s. But the fans aren’t asking for gbp50m signings. Just better than what we have.
Let’s not forget, we are by revenue in the top 6 of the richest clubs in the world and yet we spend less than the clubs in the top 50. Something is clearly not right there. Who knows if that is really down to wenger though?
There is mixed messaging going on all the time.
Clearly some players aren’t good enough, yet Wenger refuses to accept it and takes it as a personal attack on his judgment.
Of course if you are at the helm of a top organisation and your staff don’t perform you have a right to be questioned. His ego has elevated to beyond reproach. This is dangerous.
Players are picking up good money and providing nothing. Any manager worth their salt would have cleared the deadwood. But not Wenger. What he lets go are the many young players that are part of the academy
For a few years and never get a look in. So what is the point of an academy if many never get a run in the side.
I believe now, he has lost the camp (the camp of quality players left at the club) and they will slowly go if they get the chance to. I feel Wenger has lost the ability to coach these players and lost the ability to motivate them.
What’s compounding this is the back room staff are yes men who have no energy and drive to drag the team up. Pat rice sits all game next to Wenger in a trance. He never jumps off his feet to scream at players not doing
Their jobs. The fans do that for him. There will be changes at the end of this season but it will be possibly too late.

It is high time we got rid of arsene. The problem before was finding a manager who would carry on the philosophy of the club. I started supporting arsenal in 97/98 and was attracted by the style of football. Win or lose, the passing play is still outstanding. But sadly, there are not enough wins and we lose too often.

I’m tired of going to sports clubs, paying entrance fees, buying drinks during the game and then drowning my sorrows after we lose. Arsene should leave. We should all rally behind each other and get this bugger out if he does not buy in the next nine days. Mata would have been superb. Hazard would be great. Podilski and RVP would make for formidable combination. But first, Samba would be the most ideal signing. Martin Oneil would be perfect!!

In Arsene we are rusting…. Lets do something for the lova of our team.

pathetic is the first word that comes to mind.

Wenger is one of the top 5 paid managers in football and yet everyone feels the need to protect him for his failure to achieve results.

    1. he offers no insight in the formation (4-3-3 rain or shine)
    2. he can only win with one line up, he never rotates players. He knew Gervinho was going but never played anyone into the position to maintain the momentum
    3. His reading of the game is poor. Yesterday’s substitution was one of the many hoprrible substitutions he has made all season. Squillacci @ Fulham, Ramsay @ Spuds…
    4. He rewards average players at the expense of world class talent (Diaby, Walcott, Rosicky,Djourou, …) should earn way less than 50k given their inconsistency. Given his avarice and pennywise pound foolish approach you would think he would have performance clauses in their contracts to inspire above average performances

    6. He generally disrespects the fans and needs to address their concerns and win them back some how.

I am with you @Global Ninja. We might blame Nasri, Fabregas and the rest for wanting out. Who wants to be with a team without ambition except to enrich the shareholders at your expense. AFC shouldd pay decent salaries to the right people and the shareholders should allude to that fact. If Song, RVP and Wilshere leave I will totally agree with them because it is the shareholders and the coach who have demonstrated their selfishness by wanting to enrich themselves. The tickets are overpriced and the performance below par. Game in game out we come out with excuses.

Lets protest. Will be lucky if we make it top four. I will put money on this.

I mean are you really kidding me???? this article is just as bad a fans booing their own manager who has always been committed to the club and never once have we dropped out of the top 4 in Wenger’s reign. Now that we’re facing some probs, fans are quick to point the finger and boo Wenger. What a disgrace for Arsenal. Now other teams’ fans will look at Arsenal fans as people who don’t even support their own club. This whole site is becoming a forum to detest Wenger rather than supporting the club. Come on guys. Arsenal have a very strong squad; the problem is that most of that squad is injured. Its no Arsene’s fault that all his full backs are injured (though i think that Gibbs should have been replaced). With out full complement of full backs we are a team capable of challenging for honors.
But until we can field our best 11. With this Team We will be extremely difficult to beat and in my opinion go on to win the FA cup and get a decent run in the Champions League. (Given we aren’t royally screwed like last year by that idiot Massimo Busacca.)

The biggest problem with Arsenal at this moment in time is
the inability of the midfield to get the ball through to

dribbling ,going sidewards and backwards and Walcott unable to do much except flit in and out of the game
so the return of Diaby and Wilshere won,t fix this to slow from midfield problem, even the Sky commentators have been

Lets just clear a few facts up. Last year Gazidis said that Arsene had a ‘substantial’ budget at his disposal (June 2011). Would anyone disagree that in 2011 that HAS to mean £30m as a minimum?
Then we sell Eboue (£4m), Clichy (£7m), Fabregas (£35m) and Nasri (£23m). There may be a few others, but these are the big ones?
So by a fairly conservative estimate, Arsene had nearly £100m available to him (£97m).
Of that he spent OX (£12m), Per (£8m),Santos (£6.5m) and Arteta (£10m)? While math is not my strongest subject (that’s football management!), he still has £70m available to him to spend?
Two questions we need to be asking loud and clear 1.Has Arsene got this money available, and if not why not? 2. If he has got it what is he keeping it for?

If Wenger leaves we are destined to follow the lead of Chelsea and other clubs that chop and change manager every season, and where has that got them they have spent millions and are still only a few points ahead of us, I honestly think with the injury problems we have had to still be in with a chance of top 4 is amazing!. If a new manager came I’m the financial situation would go downhill. Most fans these days seem to be so changeable, one minute ox is just another youngster, the next he is your favourite player…

I am losing my patience with some of wengers decisions, but I really think we would be more miserable if he went. Name one top 4 club in the last few years who has changed a manager and instantly reaped the rewards. Liverpool have a new manager spend over 100 million and are still below us!

To all you ignorant so called ‘fans’ (and i use that word losely) who seem to think we would be better off without Wenger. WAKE UP. we have been over achieving for years now and that is puerly down to Wenger! Would anyone else do any better? No. if there was money available he would spend it. You lot have a short memory; before wenger took over we were languishing mid table with and thats before we has to compete with billionair owners!

Did Wenger make a mistake with the substitution yesterday? maybe….we dont know all the facts, and i dont suppose we ever will. In my oppinion a large contributing factor to the loss was the way the ‘fans’ reacted, it was a diagrace and took the wind out of our sales completely; are we no better than blackburn fans?

Right about now people need to take their heads out of their a***s and get behind the ENTIRE team AND the manager and save the bitching and moaning for the closed season. after all if any of you could do better you wouldnt be blogging would you…..you would be managing.

@WEYNE, that is what makes this whole thing so frustrating. Arsenal have the tools to become the greatest team in the league, maybe even Europe. We have such great up and coming talent too. Yet there are just a few things which NEED TO BE SORTED OUT and Wenger is simply not doing that.

    1. Buy 4 quality players. Samba/Cissokho/Gotze/Matias Suarez/Demba Ba/Podolski. 2 defenders, a midfielder and a striker. With those players including our current good players we would have a team more than capable of being title contenders.

    2. Put players like Djoure, Squillaci, Almunia, Arshavin, Chamakh, Bendtner, Denilson, Hoyte, Eastmond on the market. Lower their salaries too to accommodate the new BETTER players. Sorry but if you aren’t cutting it as a player, you get paid less. Simple economics.

    3. And this one is something either the manager has or hasn’t. Managerial skills and decisions which of late in Wengers case, is up the tree. I honestly think he has lost it and cannot judge in game situations anymore. Substituting Ox was a real shocker. Not just a mistake, a complete c*ckup which ultimately lost us the game. Not the first time Wenger has made such bad decisions.

So the above 3 points is why Wenger needs to go. 7 trophy less seasons is taking it too far. And especially when the fans all know of Wenger’s downfalls and how to fix them, except Wenger himself, we have a serious problem.

I think Wenger should take a page from Dalglish’s book and use a 3-5-2 formation, SEIOUSLY. Why put CBs as fullbacks when you can have them in their natural positions? This would mean that Koscielny and Vermaelen would be the outside CBs, with Mertesacker playing as a sweeper -plus this would maximize his great positional play. The best thing is that the three defenders have to do no offensive work whatsever. Then plug the usual midfield trio, the two Englishmen on the flanks, RVP allong with that park guy upfront and we’ll be good.

You are blind if you think wenger couldn’t do anything to stop players leaving. If wenger would have bought in players that that would have thrived with the likes of nasri/fabregas, then there is a strong possibility they would have stayed longer as they would have seen the club making an effort to compete for silverware instead of seeing 4th place as a successful season.
