Adam Kemp – Is this the worst Arsenal Team in Premier League history?
Today was a massive opportunity for Arsenal to go out and prove all the doubters wrong by annihilating an inferior Fulham side at home. After twenty minutes or so you would have possibly believed that we could actually deliver some kind of performance. The same old Arsenal syndrome captured the players and they blew it again. This is without doubt the worst Arsenal team that has ever played under the reign of Arsene Wenger and they need a miracle to finish fourth. How ashamed do you all feel watching these inadequate players pretending to be Arsenal players? We do not have any world class footballers in the team and the poor results reflect this!
To be in contention to win the league you need a seventy percent win ratio whilst losing only ten percent of your matches. In our opening eleven fixtures we have only won four matches with a thirty-six percent win ratio. We should have amassed double the amount of wins than what we have done so far which confirms we are a club in crisis. We have steadily been on this gradual decline of selling our better players and now finally we do not have those special players to carry the team. Van Persie for me is the best striker in world football and we sold him to a rival as we could not convince him of winning silverware. I do not blame the guy for wanting to move to a more ambitious and dare I say it better club!
Four measly wins in eleven games is mid table form and I must stress that we are likely to finish there this season. On paper we are no better in terms of quality and depth than Newcastle, Spurs, Everton and Liverpool. They have players that could walk into our side which is another disgrace. When we were successful and winning trophies it was extremely rare we would lose or draw at home unless the opposition was top class. To draw at home to Fulham when we needed a minimum of three points is consistent with the demise of this club. Arteta had the chance to step up and win the game but his lack of composure cost us. We have so many technically astute players but they lack steel, composure, leadership and belief.
In all competitions this season we have played seventeen and only won eight (forty-seven percent win ratio) which is unacceptable for club ranked sixth in Europe. Arsenal FC skyrocketed from a top English to team to a top European side since Wenger took over but Arsenal is now in a free-fall of descent with no way back. We want our Arsenal back! I want my Arsenal back! If we did not have the vast financial resources we evidently possess then I could accept our demise. The manager’s job is to build a team to challenge for trophies using all the resources available. At the AGM we had the board argue that is two seasons they could compete financially with the richest clubs in the world. We need to be competitive now as in two years when we end up like Liverpool no top players will be attracted to us.
Our second majority shareholder is three times as wealthy as the Chelsea owner and we ignore his desire to provide assistance. We have in excess of £130Million sitting in the bank earning interest on investments and making the shareholders more profitable. We have one of the best turnovers in world football with a profit margin second to none and yet we continue to be so cautious. The apparent Jewish culture that is embedded in Spurs is almost a myth as they spend more than us season after season. When Spurs spend more than Arsenal it angers me as their turnover is far less. We are winning the business battle as we sit first in the league for nett profit taken in player transfers. When Wigan, Stoke and QPR outspend the Arsenal it is only a matter of time before they progress.
Three to four years ago even though we were not winning things we had the players that were capable to. We arguably should have won the league in 2008 but at least we played fantastic football. Now we play Scunthorpe United style football as tactically the cretin Wenger cannot accommodate his players. They are all played out of position and it has shown. Wenger is the only manager who can buy international talent and ruin their careers; Arshavin being his most recent example. Although I do not have the pedigree of the great Wenger I have a UEFA B license in football coaching. This means I have some level of knowledge in reference to tactics and our current system is not appropriate.
Our current system 4-3-3 requires a prolific lone striker with fast inside forwards to get in behind the opposition. The three midfielders need to be technically proficient and balanced between attack and defence. The defence needs to be fast and organised when pressing the ball. We do not have a prolific lone striker and we do not have one natural winger in the side. We are a team of central midfield playmakers and advanced forwards. Van Persie is a complete forward and if he was still here we could probably get away with this system. If I was in charge I would play a 4-1-2-1-2 formation as it would suit the players more. The defence would pick itself with Gibbs, Vermaelen, Koscielny and Sagna as first choice. We still lack depth here with only Jenkinson and Mertesacker competent to rotate with them. I would argue we need a new left back and centre half to add depth.
The holding midfielder could be Frimpong, Coquelin or even Arteta protecting the back four. Then the 3 positions in front could be filled by any of Diaby, Rosicky, Wilshere, Ramsey, Cazorla, Arshavin and Oxlade-Chamberlain. You would have two central midfielders whom could play narrow or wider with one of them playing in the hole behind the strikers. Then you could play two up top with Walcott, Podolski, Gervinho, Giroud and Chamakh. As lone strikers they are not complete enough to play in this role, however, as two strikers they could have an easier task with a partner. Giroud using his head to flick the ball onto Walcott through the middle is far better than going wide. A player like Chamakh was top class at Bordeaux playing alongside another striker. Arshavin plays his best behind the stiker and I think this system would give us more results. Now I am a measly unknown football coach and even I can work this out.
Wenger is a joke and again he has assembled a team geared to lose as tactically he is inept. Another disappointing performance for the Gunners today and I cannot see us getting three points next weekend against Spurs. I remember the days when beating Spurs was a formality and yet they have been allowed to catch up to us. If they do not finish above us this season Wenger has performed a miracle.
Love Arsenal, Hate Wenger!
