Adam Kemp: So what’s changed? Wenger is now officially insane…
Pre-Season is nearly here and our summer of fruition appears to be only paper talk by Adam Kemp
Over the past season I have been privileged to discuss Arsenal-related news to all of the readers following justarsenal.com. I guess I am like Marmite where some of you either love or hate my views. The sensible ones obviously agree with me hence my posts generally are proved by the facts. To clarify we are now approaching the end of June and no movement has been made on the transfer front.
We appear to be in the position where we are subject to losing key personal, along with no deals being concluded due to the wheeler dealer nature of the board and Wenger. Our arrogance and prudishness in the market yet again is going to cost us a Champions League spot next season; let alone another empty trophy cabinet to compound our misery further.
When last season’s campaign ended, we were left wondering why did this team bottle it? I expressed my view that is the manager’s fault and still stand by that belief. The manager even blamed himself and admitted his policy of scrounging large profits in favour of promoting unknown children to our first team cost us again.
Albert Einstein stated insanity was doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Arsene Wenger along with Ivan Gazidis belongs in a mental asylum for their actions within their job roles. For the past three seasons we have crumbled in the same manor and the transfer policy has largely remained the same. Insanity or stubbornness? I’ll leave that one with the Arsene Wenger Supporters to mull over!
So this summer apparently Wenger and the board “mean business” as a promise was made to strengthen and spend some of the money we as fans contribute to watch the same shortcomings every season. We have released a couple of reserve players thus bought the ‘world class’ Carl Jenkinson to help us with our pursuit of silverware.
Whilst Manchester United have acquired the promising Phil Jones, David De Gea and established Ashley Young; we continue to write transfer gossip and speculation. Our rivals tend to identify a target and simply sign them in a no-nonsense fashion. We tend to spend at least two months courting a player or sign them a year later, haggling over the fee to offer peanuts for a decent player. Someone should tell Wenger inflation has risen over the past ten years and gone are the days he will find gems for under £1million.
So we are linked with an abundance of players through various media sources that include Samba, Cahill, Mata, Vidal, Alvarez, Gervinho, Hazard, Wickham and I am sure many more. Gervinho has come out and said he would love to join Arsenal and yet a fee still has to be agreed. It is typical Arsene Wenger prudishness of being the Del Boy of the transfer market.
I would not be at all surprised if we didn’t sign any of these targets and instead kept the dead wood like Diaby, Rosicky, Denilson and Bendtner. We cannot even offload our squad players to any other club, which says something about the quality of them.
We are on the verge of losing Fabregas for a joke of a transfer fee. How are players like James Milner, Darren Bent and Andy Carroll worth the same fee as one of the greatest players on the planet? Even this £40million fee quoted would send a message that Arsenal can be abused in the transfer market through steeling its assets.
If the Cesc wants to go, he can! I rather he would go, as having an unhappy player will cause unrest in the squad. But Arsenal come one, he has four years left on his contract and he is still peaking. He is worth in the current market at least £50million. How about you grow some balls and place him on the transfer list and sell him to the highest bidder, rather than being held to ransom to the disgraceful unethical Barcelona tactics.
Just because they are Spanish and are a beacon club, it doesn’t justify this public pursuit of an Arsenal player. Barcelona are not better than us a club and have no right to conduct themselves in this way. Why doesn’t a member of the board come out and shut those Catalonian rats up?
The Nasri and Clichy situation is laughable as we still haven’t resolved their contracts. Give them both a deadline to sign, and if they refuse then flog him for the right fee. This Arsenal board are a shambles along with a manager who is a complete hypocrite. Arsenal always conducts their business under the table and the media have a field day with our lack of ability to invest our significant resources into buying world class players. Arsenal are largely debt free and have a turnover that can make way for higher wage bill, along with some big money signings. Did anyone catch the Sun Article today on the apparent letter from Arsene Wenger to a disgruntled fan? I was laughable as the excuses in this aforementioned letter were just ridiculous. It is worth a read if you want to hear the same old Arsenal propaganda to justify the clubs failure.
Well as July approaches we are on the verge of repeating our summer trend: Losing key personal to other clubs, not being able to offload our mediocre players, not being able to attract top quality players and speculation running rife over actual business being concluded. If you compare us to our rivals in Chelsea and United they seem to have a respect in the market place where they can get whoever they want, when they want.
Arsenal is a big club who are not given the same respect as our rivals in the transfer market; largely due to our inadequate ability to be ruthless as a business when protecting our players from speculation and lack of proper signings. Come on don’t worry! We may finish in the top six next season whilst the board rake record profits from the hike in our season ticket prices. In Almunia we trust!

I love Wenger and I know he will sign good players and like usual, not those names hanging around, he will sign completely unknown players and they will bring Arsenal back its glory days.
I hope he starts by signing a relatively unknown Arturo Vidal as I think our season could have been very different last season with just Vidal as January addition. He will make the needed difference.
Gervinho too and any good defender as our defense with Vermaelen back isn’t as bad as many people says it is. It is only that they never get protection from midfield, which Arturo Vidal is very good at.

Buck up Adam the window is not shut yet, we may still do some decent business this summer. At least Wenger acknowledges he needs to make some changes, which is a big improvement on this squad is good enough to win the league. Also Gazidis has promised a large turnover of players this summer so they are at least saying the right things. Will they deliver on these promises? I don’t know but at least give them to the start of the season before passing judgment. Remember even money bags Man City and Chelsea haven’t signed anyone yet.
I agree with you about Nasri and Fabregas though it’s a sad indictment of the club that our best players want to leave and we can’t get rid of our squad players.

Just coz wenger’s said it’s his fault doesn’t mean anything. He’s not gonna say it was the players now is he? fabregas is like a son to wenger and arsenal. If he wants to go to barcelona, let him go there ( he’s not gonna go anywhere else). even real offer him £60 million, it just won’t happen. and window’s not even officially opened yet. don’t want him to be like fergie. he’s spent £50 million already and united’s debt is £590 million. In wenger we trust.

I agree with most of what you’re saying, and I have been the number one Wenger supporter over the years, but failure next season and he won’t have to resign, he’ll be given his marching orders… Insane? No. Stubborn as they come? 100% yes!
Samba and Cahill are simply must haves! I wish we would end the agony and just sell Fabregas, and Nasri too if he wants to leave. Neither had glowing seasons now did they…?
Wilshere made a quantum leap forward last season and personally I believe he has everything Fabregas has, and more… Surround that boy with a 20-25 goal a season striker, two commanding centre halves and another talented defensive midfielder…things are looking good from where I’m sitting. We still have one of the top three players in the world in my eyes in RVP, keep him fit and we’re in business!
In Wilshere we trust!

As an Arsenal season ticket holder, and life long fan. I cannot agree fully with your article. Amidst the “facts” claim there are a number of untruths.
You state “Our arrogance and prudishness in the market yet again is going to cost us a Champions League spot next season” When, under Wengers management have we failed to retain a Champions League spot?
The only reason we have an impressive profit margin compared to our typical transfer rivals is because the reigns are tight. If Harry Redknap had taken the Arsenal job all those years ago (forgive me for saying this, but as an example) We would have had Ronaldinho, Kaka, Buffon, got Zidane out of retirement and would probably have had Robbie Keane running around like an idiot with no end product (exactly like Bendtner)They would have since been sold, we would have lost loads of money and definitely wouldn’t be in a Champions League spot.
So when you weigh up where we could be, vs where we are, I’m sure you would take where we are.
All that said, don’t get me wrong, frustration doesn’t get near to how I feel about this baron spell.
One thing to consider is throughout this Baron spell, Fabregas has been the centre of everything Arsenal. I say take the money, he’ll go to Barcelona and sit on the bench for 3 seasons watching Xavi and Iniesta humilate teams. By that time he would have missed his peak and not be half the player he is now. Tell me one player that has left Arsenal and been consistantly successfull?
Take the money Wenger, stick up for yourself with Nasri, get in a big lump at the back (Samba/Cahill), someone in the middle that is going to fight for the team and show some pride in wearing the badge on his chest and someone that will put the ball in the net consistently that can play more than 15 games a season, without being injured for the majority of the season with an in-growing hair or something similar. Basically Arsenal need a Spine, on and off the pitch!!
Your comments are welcome…

The truth hurts, and the pro-Wenger brigade are at their illrational best. The last five seasons, check our centre halves, Pascal Cygan, Squilaci, Kolscieny, Senderos and Johan Djourou. The avalanche of mistakes by Djourou at the recent England Vs Switzerland were painful reminders why Arsenal is going nowhere under Wenger. Arsene is now used to losing. This reflects on the players and even the board. The fans even settle for fourth best in England now. Forget about the Champions league. The players lack hunger. Arsenal is the club with most players she cannot flog. More than any other club in the premiership. This is an indictment on Arsene and the board. Wake up fellow Gooners.

ok grimandi we respect your loyalty to your fellow countryman but i like most gooners have had enough of the same old unproven players over the past 6 years…..im not anti wenger i still think he is one of the most astute people in the business….but stop messing about ….as usual we are linked with this player and that player (in the papers) just buy some players . stop wasting time. decent players don’t come cheap ..proven players like cahill or who ever it may be are worth multi millions because they perform day in day out….and dump the dead wood on ebay if necessary ….(joke denilson only raised 15grand)

It is just a common saying that “if you want to be always a mourning fun, support Arsenal” Though I am tough arsenal fun by force, I always mourn after the last whistle in several matches, think of the last season results like ganners: vs tottenham (3-2, 3-3), vs newcastle (1-0, 4-4), Vs Sunderland (1-1, 1-1), vs liverpool (1-1,1-1)and others you remember. I think now you are mourning, sorry for that flashback! My advise to wenger is that we are sad of his behaviour, he better change with time, we are fed u with him, if he doesnt like changes let him go away. I wanted to write more but due to wrath I stop, If I could be in England for Tanzania I could tell his wife to make him change his beheviour when in bed, may be he could listen!

Only by bringing in big names can he play the same formation game after game and rotate players of the same calibre.
If he wants to haggle price and scrounge around for good deals then he needs to vary his formation and become less predictable.
In support of Kemp, so far Wenger has done the same thing over and over again for 6 seasons. You are insane to do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.
If he does the same thing this season and promises to win the league then either he or the supporters are insane.

Lets not forget that Arsene Wenger is our most successful manager ever though admitedly he had inherited a strong squad of experience both domestically and internationally. Without a doubt we would not have been consistently in the champions league, top four and financially secure hs it not been for Wenger. However, Arsenal are a big club and to not win anything since our move to Emirates is very disappointing indeed and there must be some accountability for this which Wenger acknowledges. Would be great if some of our players could do the same especially those who appear so eager to leave. This new season will be critical. Lets hope that we have some welcome additions to the squad in time for pre season and be behind our team and manager 100%!

This has to be one of the best articles a have read about Arsenal in a long time…
It hurts cause its true
We need bigger names
Wenger has kept his strategy the same
but the difference now is that we do not have an Henry and Vierra
thats why its not working…
We need a bigger name in our club
I loved your point about Arsenal prices
Arsenal players always end up being sold for far less than market price for some reason
I still believe in Arsene though
WAKE UP WENGER!

Wenger has to sell this summer as to keep hold of him would be financial suicide.
Next year, the transfer window will see much reduced fees as a result of the fair play rules. Wenger knows this, as do Barca, so the boss it pretty much tied to whatever Barca are willing to pay as Cesc won’t sign for someone else.
The only clubs making the really huge buys are those with rich benefactors wanting to have a last spin of the financial dice. However the wages that go with these massive signings could really cripple some clubs by the start of the 2013 season.
I’m guessing that the board are trying to play the long game. We have have to be patient for some time yet.
All that said, it would take a fool not to see that we could have won the league at least once in the last 3 seasons, if our manager hadn’t made some really bizarre signings and/or decisions.
Buy experience now Wenger, or be hounded out by Xmas!
We are the Arsenal, here long before you, and here long after you are gone. Treat us with the respect we deserve.

@ Shepard, he isn’t doing the same things. Everyone needs to stop being so naive and wait till July to see who Wenger signs, when the market ACTUALLY OPENS.
My gosh, why do you think we’ve been linked with so many more players than usual this season? With deals looking more and more likely? Because Wenger is finally waking up and changing things.
Lets judge him after a) this window closes and b) at the end of next season! And then, we can evaluate how he has done after attempting to change things.

@ Adam Kemp – Commendation once again for a nic epost. As usual this is factual & some of AW lickers would not like it….
They actually do not have the balls to ask questions !!!
a) why are we in a situation with Nasri & Clichy when we are unable to bring them to contract extension discussions & now a stand of losing them for free next year !!! why such a situation would arise ??? Why ? Why the hell now we are frantically looking foir a resolution & may have to sell/offload these players with far lesser money than they would have given us ?
b)If Darren Bent is worth 30M, Henderson 20 M.. Fabregas – 35 M ???? Really laughable… we are hearing rumours that Alexis Sanchez is around 40 M , Nemer > 40 M, – Are they better players than Fabregas ???? I keep hearing that a 35 M or a max 40 M would be enough for Arsenal to say ‘ yes ” to Barca … isn’t it a shameful deal ????
But yes, I agree – whatever it is – this saga has to end this year … we just can’t have this protracted & painful drama unfolding every year
3)I hate to say this but really I think Man U is far more mprofessional than our AW & Board..they identified their targets for themselves long back, got them into their fold w/o wasting any time & w/o allowing anybody to come in between – and mind you, they picked up world-class players who can be winners in the pitch…
Look at us – only speculation after speculation… really tiring …

@ Adam Kemp -
Pls don’t bother about some punch-drunk morons & idiots who call themselves Arsenal fans ( actually they are AW lickers )
They are a disgrace for our club- they don’t believe in any sort of criticism – both positive or negative… they are born in a default condition – slavery is their slated norm… there would always these cowards who would try to nullify logic.
Fck them – keep on writing stuff which talks of reality & not vanity that these asshles possess.

I now know why some people can not be successful in their chosen careers. It’s simply cause they settle for less.I watch Man.U̶̲̥̅̊ fans talk with confidence while I get high BP while I watch arsenal play. It’s funny for someone here to compare arsenal’s will to success woth that of spurs!spurs don’t v d pride gunners has and hence can’t protect it!…To all those that find it difficult to assimilate the fact….pLease,ARSENAL is a BIG team!so,we must live up to d ovation.
And please remove that fake sunglasses you prowengers wear and see reality!…try and see old matches and watch clowns like diaby, denilson and chamack play(and great almunia)!
Don’t beef…watch men play and appreciate them..like vermaleen,rVP,wilshere,song and a few others!
What U̶̲̥̅̊ prowenger don’t get is that no one will be this frustrated just if we can only loose matches with great character and fight!…rather than losing like chickens cause we parade toddlers.
I know wenger is a good tactician…but my advice is that he should do the necesary things!
Check!…..arsenal went to nou camp 2 seasons ago with 16/17 players in a champions league match against 1 of the most efficient team in history because we sold 4 key players and only bought 1 back(to make profit).
Do you know arsenal is the only team that lost 3 keepers in a season?..Do you know arsenal is the only top 4 team that will be 4 goals up and still draw or loose!…do you know wenger is d only coach that slams his water bottle in frustration every weekend(and won’t make a change)during matches?!…Do you also know arsenal is the only team that doesn’t encourage competion within the team?!(Dis leads to redundancy/players don’t fight for their spots)….I can go on and on
I don’t have that time as i’m gunning for my own success!
