Adam Kemp: This summer will be the same as the rest under Wenger

Posted on June 12, 2011 by admin

Is there anything different about Wenger this summer? by Adam Kemp

I am pig sick of seeing the same events unfold with Wenger at the helm still through the transfer window. Every summer we seem to lose key players who are disillusioned by life at the Emirates, and replace them with unknown kids or geriatric mediocre men. It’s nearly the middle of June and it appears that Arsene Wenger is not concerned about the Nasri speculation. Just offer him the contract he wants as this summer we need to keep our key players and add to the quality within the squad. It appears Nasri may be on his way out along with Clichy whom has not signed a new deal as of yet. So what does this transfer window promise to us as paying fans?

Well so far we have made one acquisition in the mould of a usual Wenger signing – young Carl Jenkinson. He has spent a modest fee of £1 million which makes a slight difference as for the moment he has actually made a loss in terms of transfer dealings. But wait there is still time for him to amass more profit from dismantling the squad. There are plenty of Carl Jenkinson’s at the club waiting in the wings for their chance. So why buy another promising player whom cannot make an immediate impact. Wenger is a complete Muppet as he will prove me right as he did with this season ended empty handed and in fourth place.

So who has been linked with Arsenal and which are heavily featured on our shopping list? We have been linked with hundreds of players over the last few weeks but it appears we are haggling deals left right and centre; hence no arrivals. Gary Cahill (Bolton), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Southampton), Chris Samba (Blackburn), Scott Parker (West Ham), Gervinho (Lille), Keisuke Honda (CSKA) and another French player of course Mathieu Valbuena (Marseille) appear to be our primary targets. However we are set to lose out to Manchester City on Cahill and Gervinho as they will probably offer much higher personal terms. The likeliest of signings out of these compiled players would be Oxlade-Chamberlain as he is younger than 21, lower league and not experienced. Criteria often set out on the job description for potential Arsenal targets.

So who is on their way out? Well we are going to as usual lose some key players along with some deadwood flops whom should have been sold seasons ago. Nasri, Clichy, Fabregas, Bendtner, Denilson, Almunia and Lehmann appear to be headed out of the emirates this summer. With Nasri refusing to sign a new deal as like previous players who put the club in this situation, he demands more money along with signings to prove the clubs ambition. Well Nasri I think you are suited to Manchester United as no doubt they will probably win everything next season. Alex Ferguson has more guts and balls than our French cry baby flop of a manager. If he just was more ruthless and signed the players for the right money then we would keep our better players. Clichy has been poor all season and it looks like he is out this summer. But is Gibbs really up to the proven calibre of Clichy?

The whole Fabregas saga is already unfolding and it appears this summer he may get his desired wish to return to his boyhood club. I do not want to see a player of his stature leave the club but if he doesn’t want to be here he should be allowed to leave; but for the right fee and invite other clubs to bid and sell him to the highest bidder. Let him go but not to Barcelona as those Catalonian peasants cannot afford his transfer fee. Maybe they should put up the council tax of its residents to raise the money for the transfer.

Thank god Bendtner wants to go as he cannot hit a barn door and he is nowhere near the calibre of Van Persie. I just have a strange feeling that when he leaves he will do better at another club and maybe fulfil his potential. Let’s hope I am wrong there. Finally Denilson and Almunia are on their way out and I will happily forget they ever played for this club. It embarrasses me to think we had players of league one standard in our squad. Lehmann is on his way out and I thank such a good servant to the club and hope he has success as either a player or a coach.

So this summer will see us be no stronger next season and if we lose Nasri and Fabregas (unless he buys two world class replacements) then we will struggle to finish fourth. Arsene Wenger is a complete liar and you will see him screw us all over again this summer as he is a born loser. This club is a feeder club to teams with more financial passion to achieve success. I hope if he doesn’t deliver this summer and consequently we finish a seventh successive season without a trophy that he is finally sacked. Hate Wenger, Love Arsenal!

For me, I think that wenger needs a couple of classy replacements to stay in the top 4 never mind win the league, with the likes of nasri and fabregas leaving meaning there are only 2 world class players in the starting line up, Wilshere and Van persie. I would love to see Falcao, Baines, Samba, mertesacker at the club but let’s be honest it’s not going to happen under wenger simply because he doesn’t spend any money. Kills me being an Arsenal fan :(

Is this really what its come too? This is just a critism of everything you see at Arsenal not taking the positives. Kieran Gibbs- England u21s.Nasri is likely to sign a new contract with Fabregas on his way to Barcelona and also if he does not sign a defender we have young kyle bartley who gets into the Rangers first team?! With the rumours flying around like a food fight i reckon the only close signings are Oxlade-chamberlain and Gervinho but as usual other BIG clubs are sniffing around our targets such as Liverpool and Man City but I believe that Wenger will bring back Gervinho or another Striker and also the signing of Chris Samba seems to be pretty likely with Blackburn supposively given up on keeping him at Blackburn and maybe Gary Cahill that we were in talks with. But i don’t get these articles they are miserable and describe arsene as an idiot and arsenal slowly detireacting yes we haven’t won anything since 2005 but with all the players and fans encouraging wenger to spend hr has taken that into account and said that he wants to sign players!

Its not looking good this summer so far when you look at united makin deals happen and liverpool splashin the cash. It just feels like we are in for players but as usual arsenal feel the need to haggle too long on a price.

i dont even think arsenal will get gervinho this summer. he has been linked long enough now to have signed so why isnt it happening.

Samir is worthy of a pay rise and arsenal should give it to him. I feel that since ivan gazidas has come on board we have struggled to get good players or tie down our best players to longer contracts and that he might not be the right man for arsenal in that respect. Is it not his job to negotiate contracts for players and not arsene at all.

If its all up to wenger to do everything then why would ivan be there at all. Im not sure bout this though so can someone who knows better enlightin me on this. thanks

I dont know of any world class player whose ambition in life is to finish in the top four with no trophies or medals to display! It may sound good economic sense for the manager and board, but for players and fans, its no longer funny at all!
The fact that we surf the net every hour hoping for some quality signing is enough evidence that we are hurting inside and can hardly take the insults from rival supporters for another season!
We dont want to wait for left over mard-donw bargains in August and we should secure quality players now. We cant continue doing things the same way every season and expect different results!

    So much negativity.
Arsenal haven’t been relegated, we finished 4th in the league.
Till the CC final meltdown, we were having a great season.
The defence seemed sorted with dj and kos, nasri was flying, and the gk position was safe.
Then we had a nervous 90 mins, and never recovered from the shock.

With all due respect to Adam Kemp. I may not agree with your views on Arsene Wenger, but in this forum at least I do appreciate your passion for Arsenal (on the street I’m not sure). When you write that Ferguson ‘has more guts and balls’ than our manager are you sure that you are coming from a positive perspective? Did he have more guts to stick with a system of bringing younger and less experienced players from the Academy to the first team? Did he have more balls shop economically and not pay for overpriced local talent just to satisfy the masses?
Regardlees of how YOU see Arsene Wenger, are you saying you want a manager like Sir Alex? He made a deal with the devil to get his recent success so I’m sure it won’t last long. Am I the only one who saw the desperation in Man U’s game last season? We keep gave them the title, they didn’t take it. Part of what makes Arsenal special IS the fact that we do things differently from the other clubs. This season our patience will pay off. You don’t have to agree, but you surely have to hope that I’m right and you’re wrong. If not then what are you really supporting? This is a terrible article, and I hasten to add that the term article is used loosely here. You’re barely literate and all your qualms are second or third hand. Have you never thought for yourself or looked at the situation of the club as a whole before you slate a world class manager like Wenger? Everything you say is rehashed tabloid lies, things which are said to unsettle fans of the club, to push out ‘johnny foreigner’. There is an undercurrent of racism/xenophobia in the sentiment of what you say and I resent that our club has fans like you.

I think we should wait until the end of the transfer window before passing judgment on Wenger’s dealings this summer. So far he’s said the right things, he want’s to strengthen with height at the back and I get the feeling he finally understands what needs to be done. Of course no-one wants Nasri to leave let alone go to Man U but I read today he’s asking for £160,000 a week and that is just too much in my opinion. If Other clubs are prepared to pay that what are we to do bankrupt the club to match them.
I do think we should invest in the team by actually spending more than we bring in from transfers this season. For the past 6 or 7 years we’ve looked to a make a profit on transfer dealings but the time for that has passsed. If we are a serious about competing we have to spend at least £20 million plus transfer proceeds or we will continue to go backwards.
If that doesn’t happen or Wenger wastes it on another bunch of Squillaci/Koscielny type signings, then we should start calling for the heads of both Wenger and the board.

So this year he’s not going to buy any decent players just like the last 15 years, have you been living in a cave ? As i keep saying it’s down to finances which is down to the board. A manager doesn’t request that he’s given no money to spend if the board are offering it. If i was a betting man i’d bet that you came to support Arsenal because of Arsene Wenger and the team he created. Very few who knew Arsenal before Wenger are against him now because they can see the positive difference that he has made.

My judgement to this article goes thus; Adam Kemp, you are very wrong, Arsene Wenger, you are absolutely wrong too. The Mirror this morning carried a news about Usmanov and his opinion about the Arsenal board which is very much correct. The problem is not just Arsene, the problem i see in this club is Ivan Gazidis, that man is shit. We should be hoping Stan Kroenke does some magic, to start with he doesn’t really know much about football and i doubt if he will be able to affect the club positively. Let’s just hope next season will be better, because i can’t imagine a 7 consecutive season without any trophy.

I do rememver Aresenal before AW when they were managed by Graham. We were like any other english team at that time, purely kick-&-run. The long ball was our staple and we would grind out 1-0 victories and win a few domestic cups. When Arsene came along it wasn’t instant, but he grew us into a more attacking, ball controlling side that could compete consistantly in Europe. United and other teams soon started to follow suit. Remember when they bought Cantona and all those other french players? The papers back then were saying how United were doing that to keep up with Arsenal. My points are basically that, everything comes in cycles. And, AW has strengthened Arsenal and has made us better than we have ever been in our long history.

Arsene has won 3 league titles and 5 cups in 15 years. Thats a league title every 5 years and a cup every 3 years on average

George Graham won 2 league titles and 4 cups (including CWC) in 8 years. Thats a league title every 4 years and a cup every 2 years.

JAZZ is right. The problems are not down to bad management, they’re down to the club spending less than 17 of the 20 teams in the league over the last 8 years and if you think a change of manager will change that you are deluding yourselves. If anything Wenger gets more to spend than a new manager would because he has the full backing of the board whereas a new manager will need to earn that.

Arsenal must get rid of some players (Almunia, Lehmann, Squillaci, CLichy, Denilson, Rosicky, Bendtner, Arshavin) and absolutely make Nasri sign a new contract. Wenger said he will improve and strenghten the team. I believe he will do it since he and everyone is aware that the team collapsed as from march. But there is no big names to expect. No Benzema, no Falcao, no Sneijder and no Hazard… He will buy no player above 20mil. He will just choose a few players to improve the team: Samba for the solidity of the defence, Baines because Clichy leaves, Alvarez to add height and technique and Gervinho to score. There is no revolution to expect.

    Szczesny/Fabianski
    Sagna/Eboue-Samba/Djourou-TV5/Kos-Baines/Gibbs
    Song/Frimpong-Wilshere/Diaby
    Walcott/Vela-Nasri/Ramsey-Alvarez/Miyaichi
    RvP/Gervinho

Baines and Gervinho to arrive soon. They are just at the hairdresser’s shop.

Depends on the cup, beating barca over two legs is harder than playing anyone in the english game. AW did not do it back to back (i think your refering ‘it’ to the league?). Anyways, the fact of the matter is 6 years without a trophy is unacceptable for any team who is supposed to be challenging for top honours, and people who are satisfied with that level of success are crippling our club.
Let me ask you this, would barca, real, man utd, and chelsea supporters still back a manager who hasn’t delivered anything over a 6 year period?

Unless of course there 9. Another thing is were so close as we have been for so many years but wenger won’t sign the 2-3 top players to push us on. then top players leave and we rebuild to keep finding our selves in the same position a few years later,so sign what’s needed and don’t people say try finding better than we’ve got coz I’m sure anyone and I mean anyone can find better than almunia, denilson, diaby, squllachi, clichy, chamakh, bendtner.if spending £30mil on benzema seems a lot then think of shirt sales, that will pay half his fee

YOu Mr kemp are the worst most loathsome arsenal “fan” in the world.I ask people to cast their minds back to the artlice that mr kemp wrote after the barca win, saying that he had misjudged wengers philosophy and we were doing it the right way! but as soon as results dont go our way, you are straight back on the arsene out train.this to me shows that you are as fickle as a gory hunting 7 year old.you are reactionary and dont deserve to support this beautiful team. when the glory days return, now money is available i cant wait to hear you back tracking. you are everything that is wrong with the engish media and part of the reason why engish footbal is 20 years behind spanish football. You probably wont be happy till weve got sam allardyce as manager with shawcross in defence. Without arsene this club will become another average english taem with no style no gloabal following, and as a result, no cash. it is only in this country were wengers hard work is so disrespected, and you mr kemp represent the fat greedy supporters who dont know how good they got it! but if you are going to have such a crass opinion, at least stick to it, even when we do beat, and at times outplay, the best football team in history.ARSENE IS THE BEST MANAGER OF ALL TIME. i just hope that his morals about the way he thinks things should be won dont swallow up his chance of sucsess. he has proved he can build a team on peanuts and with the right signings arsenal will be fantastic next year. Keep the faith peeps, but arsene, take the pressure off yourself and spend as much as you can. Although ive got a fealing that we have already signed a player this season who will be the heart of arsenals midfield for years to come, his name is TORAL! oh yeah and bellerain and myatchi both are world class. The fact that we have the 5th highest turnover of any club in the world and are the ONLY one not in debt deserves respect. IF wenger walked now he would be at the helm of real madrid or barca within a year FACT! caus real madrid know that the only way they can get close to barca is to get wenger hence they badgered him so much in 2010. You can see how much wenger loves arsenal in his responce to the press when asked if he had any message for madrid he said, “yes , leave me alone!” nuff said, LOSE WENGER LOSE ARSENAL

While I agree with most of your post, Adam, your usage of the word ‘whom’ needs to be revised. I’m sorry to be a Grammar Nazi, but it really gets my goat when people try to use ‘whom’ when they should be using the word ‘who’.

An example: You write ‘[i]t appears Nasri may be on his way out along with Clichy whom has not signed a new deal as of yet. So what does this transfer window promise to us as paying fans?’ If you use the word ‘whom’, you can replace it with words such as him or her and, of course, you don’t say ‘him has not signed a new deal…’. However, if you use the word ‘who’ then you can replace it with he or she etc.

I dont really like Diaby. I agree he is injury prone. More than that, I think he is very impulsive and not very intelligent. I remember his attitude against Newcastle and the Barton incident or when he played with the hand 5 minutes after the referee booked him for bad reaction. His last game this season, he slapped an ukrainian player out of anger because the guy dared to tackle him not even dangerously. He has a great technique but he is great 2 games in a season. That not enough and I would get rid of him if I was Wenger. Anyway, I did not put him on the list. I thought Wenger will not sell him because he is giving him one more chance and he can not loose more technical player when Nasri and Cesc might both leave the club. He can not change half of the team and expect that it will work. It’s very difficult to integrate new team mates and even more to create a whole new group.

some one commented did you forget about the invicibles? It appears Arsene Wenger has. The style of all Arsene’s successful arsenal teams has been different to this one. Why change a winning formula (which still works with Man United this year) to try and copy barcelona who are probably the only team to make Arsene’s current style work

The invicibles or even the 1998 team had passion, heart and determination alongside a number of very creative players. They also had pace in attack and work rate on the wings. Even Pires would track back when needed.

Why abandon this approach for our current 5 year experiment

He has decided that it is more important to show how he can develop a team but this is not working and hasn’t for 5 years. If the arsene wenger from 1998-2005 could come back I’d welcome him with open arms.

the decisive manager who removed the deadwood each year, people like diaby and denilson would have lasted 2 years and then out. Now he is ambitionless and past it.

Mr kemp your repeated digs at Arsene Wenger is both tiresome & irritating, you have never stated who you would replace him with for starters. Now I have that off my chest let’s proceed with the players that wish to leave, firstly cesc let’s be truthfully honest his heart wasn’t in it and the fact that he so desperately wanted to play at the nou camp when not fully fit proved it. As for Nasri it is disappointing but if they don’t want to play let them go, let’s remember it was only Wenger that came in for Nasri so he clearly feels no loyalty!
As for Clichy I am not too bothered if he leaves let’s not forgot Birmingham 2008 (eduardos broken leg) when in the last minute he decides to play keep ball or arsenal 4 v spurs 4 whe he dwaddlled with the ball allowing Lennon to nick it he is prone to mistakes and he is not learning so bring in Gibbs providing he can stay fit.
The others are deadwood so let them go, now if you are a true arsenal fan I assume you are aware of Emmanuel Frimpong let him sit in with Wiltshire & Ramsay and I think you maybe surprised, true we could do with a leader on the pitch but that’s where the real players with heart & interest for playing for Arsenal come to the front so get behind them or are you just a fair weather supporter ! ?

With all the clubs improving, it looks like Liverpool will beat us to the last Champs league spot if we don’t sign 2 quality players. As of now it is too soon to say Aw is not signing any good players. I would like to see a proper striker to play in front of RVP. Falcao seems to me the obvious choice. Forget CB we need to replace Clichy with TV at LB and get a CB or just get a good LB. I have a feeling Kos will do better this season.

We could use a proper winger (& not a central player converted to play winger) cos arsh is way past his best. A DM to compete with Song, preferably a physical guy.

It’s a shame to see some passionate supporters of Arsenal have directed their passion in a negative light. Yes it is frustrating waiting patiently for world class signings as the likes of Liverpool and Man Utd seem to be making faster progress in the transfer market. Like many avid Arsenal fans, I too, have been reading about transfer deals on a daily basis. There is so much BS and sometimes you read 2 different things from apparently reliable sources. I say, keep true to you heart Arsenal fans and just wait as the official transfer market won’t open until 1st of July. The players will come as I believe atm, Wenger is feeling the pangs of pressure upon him to satisfy the fans. Don’t fret my beloved fellow Gunner fans, we will get some great signings too. Nasri deserves a pay increase albeit if his avarice and spoilt ways continue, it’s time to part with him. As for Fabregas, his leave is inevitable whether we like it or not. Really hate to lose him as I believe he is the heart and soul of this Arsenal team with his creative passing and vision of the game. With extreme hesitation, we need to sell him ASAP so we can start rebuilding and get new players familiar with the Arsenal system. If Fabregas’ departure is held another year, that just puts Arsenal behind again. As for unwanted players such as Denilson, Bendtner, Squillaci, Rosicky, Almunia etc, we need to offload them ASAP to build capital for bigger and better signings although we have a healthy kitty already. This may perhaps encourage Wenger to act on expensive signings knowing that there is still a healthy surplus in remaining funds. On the other note, many comments posted here have criticised Wenger for not buying HUGE names. Look at Torres, Balotelli and Aquilani. All went for big fees and have contributed little to be worthy of their purchase. Wenger is a lot more cunning and he will refuse to see this happen at Arsenal. When we do spend big which will be after 1st of July, all Arsenal fans can breathe a little better and actually look forward to challenging next year. Be patient Gunners, don’t believe everything you read…….STAY TRUE TO YOUR TEAM!

Regardless, we have to stick together as a team and NOT point fingers at individuals such as Wenger, who need I remind you brought many trophies to Arsenal in a short period. Is this the gratitude we show someone when adversity strikes? There are many internal factors we do not understand or know due to the confidential dealings of a transfer and sadly we are only given what the media presents us which is mostly BS. Your article should try and keep Arsenal fans motivated and generate belief in a team that NEEDS it most at this point in time.
