Adam Kemp – Wenger is leading Arsenal to mid-table mediocrity
Same old Arsenal part……I lost count! by Adam Kemp
Sequels rarely deliver much entertainment or win any accolades with the critics. However, last season’s problems do not appear as damaging as the problems that face the future of Arsenal. Arsenal has shipped an incredible 14 goals in their opening first 5 league games thus far. We have won just the one fixture and barely won it against the worst side in the league. Arsenal is a club in crisis and we are losing our identity through the lack of sufficient quality in all areas. Frustratingly Mr Wenger has acknowledged we were not ‘solid enough’ defensively. My wife could have pointed this out to him two seasons ago, when we were screaming for quality reinforcements.
Why does he continue to disappoint us with below par players in comparison to the players that depart? Arsenal has gradually begun to weaken year by year whilst the revenue stream continues to soar! Arsenal is owned by two billionaire tycoons who are collectively worth three times as much as the Chelsea owner. We generate a turnover that is amongst the highest in world football and alongside having arguably the best stadium in Europe. With all these resources available at our disposal we are told that we cannot spend the money that is needed to win silverware. This hypocrisy is deeply imbedded in a flawed Arsenal culture.
Arsenal has let another comfortable lead slip through Sunday league defending. How poor did Mertasacker in this shabby defence? This ‘panic buy’ answer to our problems adds to our deadwood defensive personnel. He is a cheaper version of Cahill or Samba! I have lost confidence in all of our defenders bar Sagna or Vermaelen. They are the only two proper defenders that play for this great club. All the others would shine for West Ham in the Championship. How could he build title winning teams with far less resources than he has now? Seriously I just do not trust this old man’s judgement! He cannot be allowed to continue to manage the team in the same way he is now. It did not work last year and it isn’t going to work this year.
Arsenal is destined to finish this season’s domestic campaign fifth at the highest! They will be lucky to scrape third in their Champions’ League group. Who knows we may win the Europe’s reserve competition! I am beginning to wonder if these players actually understand the responsibility required to wear the Arsenal shirt. I have given up on being abusive towards Wenger and the board as you all know my feelings by now. I just cannot believe we are not competing and keeping hold of our top stars. I can see Van Persie leaving us next summer if he has fully fit season without a trophy. I wouldn’t blame him as he is playing with sub-par players.
Our performance today was terrible and yet is any of you truly shocked or surprised we got destroyed. Whilst we continue to lower our expectations as fans, then we will be allowed to drift into mid table obscurity under the direction of Wenger’s stubborn principles. We are Arsenal and we should be challenging for the league title every season, not attempting to scrape fourth place. This could be Wenger’s make or break year and I hope he can prove me wrong. Sadly I know that he continue to disappoint as he is unambitious. What manager of a big club will come out and state we are weaker than our rivals? You are supposed to match your rivals and make sure you have enough quality to compete through a balance of steel and flair.
Hate Wenger, Love Arsenal!

I partly agree. Our final day panic is not paying off, and only Arteta has been a slight shimmer of light. Mertesaker is looking too slow for the premier league and needs to adapt significantly to the English game if he is to become a defender worthy of a team like Arsenal. After the match against Brussia Dortmund, where we gave a good defensive display, I thought our defence had finally turned a corner. Then I watched us score two own goals in a defensive display where a League 1 side could beat us. We need Vermalen and Wishere back, and I can see Wilshere and RVP leaving if we continue like this.
On the other side, I have a soitary opinion that Arshavin is actually playing well. Many Arsenal fans feel differently, but he is one of the best in this Arsenal team.
Arteta was also a good purchase. Yes, he isn’t as good as Fabregas, but not many people are and he was a solid buy.
Can we win anything? Carling Cup at the VERY most, but that is incredibly optimistic

HM..
.. Having board examinations on this Tuesday and i couldnt stdy or sleep watching the match against BB…
2 own goals… That reflects the luck 0f my blovd club frm the last season.
But i will never lose faith in my club and Wengi.. only 5 matches are gone and 33 are left.
I think we need 4-4-2 formation coz we were more threatening in that formation wen chamak and VP playd infront.
Also as we conceded 4 goals against BB,as we go away I wud like 2 play more defencively with Frimpong and Song in 4-2-3-1, and concentrate more on counter attacks..Wen we play at home we may use our natural style of play in 4-4-2 with 2 strikers upfront..
In january,we need a gud defender some1 lyk cahill,a creative mibfieder lyk Gotze/hamsik and a man 2 use upfront lyk Dempsy..
I will alwys support u..:)

Watching this Video and reflecting on our Game vs Blackburn,What did an Arsenal Player and Fan like me do wrong to deserve this suffering we are all enduring today,We’ve had so many fantastic & Historic Moments(The Invincibles,Arrival of Wenger etc)
Not only do the Arsenal Players as of today need to watch this,Wenger & the Board need to watch this as well & rediscover what it means to be part of Arsenal & what they’re putting at stake.
Best Arsenal Tribute ever!!! Thumbs up

Its weird to see how many people are now supporting you now. I think wenger shot himself in the foot by purchasing players who would take time to adapt like santos and mertesacker. If he had payed a little more on epl players like cahill, baines or even as low as figueroa they wouldnt have shown such a shambolic display. I do not blame koscielny that much on the defence because he would have to constantly cover mertesacker because of his lack of pace. Obviously the players need more time but there is none arsenal need to deliver to keep the fans happy for the first time in my life (only 17 years) i have started to really doubt wenger and his arrogant ways.

The problem at Arsenal is not Wenger. It is the diddery doddery gutless board that we have. They are paralysed by the inaction of their own dithering. You have to take your hat off to Abramovich – he may have had more managers than we have had clean sheets:-) but he sets an expectation. Deliver or else and deliver with style or else and deliver the Champions League or else.
As for Wenger I can tell you that he is showing the classic signs you see in management at any level – he is punch drunk. When managers get to this stage there is only one way and that is for them to exit the business. This is because it is impossible once you get to this stage to make any dramatic improvements. Everyone around and most importantly your players find it difficult to lift themselves, to believe that they can win. Wenger has to do the decent thing and let someone else resurrect this famous club before it’s too late.
I have heard the media make much of who else would you bring in that would be better than Wenger and that would be available. Well firstly let’s put some perspective around this ‘better than Wenger’. On what comparison? The last seven years have not exactly been invincibles territory has it. Right now I think we need someone who can give these players some direction and belief, someone who can bring a sense of purpose and someone who can put a bit of steel into our mentality and a sense of urgency into our play.
Right now I would take George Graham back with open arms. What is Martin O’Neil doing these days and where is Carlo Ancelotti?
Another example of board inaction is Pat Rice. There’s a man that wanted to tend to his roses this year instead we have him still on the bench and about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. In this position I know exactly who I want to acccompany the new manager and that is Tony Adams. The plan being to groom him to take on the role eventually with Steve Bould being his deputy.
Not rocket science all of this is it? So why has our sleepy board not done it already?
More inaction and I will tell you this now – forget top 4 we will struggle to make top 10. Yes let’s not kid ourselves that that we are too big a club to suffer such a fate. Just look at some of the so called big clubs of football like Leeds and Notts Forest to name but two and it’s not that difficult to see that mediocrity could become just the way it is. The mere fact that we are no longer talking about winning the league just a top four finish tells you all you need to know.
Action now please if we want to be ‘ahead of the game’.

I just cannot think of an arsenal team competing in the middle of the premier league table. Wenger is in deep danger of being in the situation as of blackburn’s steve kean. He is complaining about other big spending clubs and leaving the Mighty Arsenal’s future in the hands of some below average players. This is unacceptable for any Gunners fans. He has said if he finds quality players he will surely buy them….then why didnt he go for eg:mata, villa…dont they have any quality??? Hope wenger will take some measure to carry the team till January and then hunt for some real tried and tested and matured quality players…GUNNER4EVER!!!

Wenger will need to think seriously about Arsenal. He is a capable and intelligent manager; just arrogant about spending money on good players. He needs to spend some serious money this January and again in the summer. He should have his targets all set so that come January, he goes and buys those players whatever the price. He should let someone else worry where the money will come from and concentrate more on the team. Arsenal should get Dein on board as his experience will alleviate some pressure off wenger. Moreover Kroneke should sell up to Usmanov as he has more ambition for Arsenal to succeed. Kroneke is there only for the profit.

How many times do we have to hear the same crap in an after match interview from AW. “we were not good enough”. No “sh*t Sherlock. Benn saying that for years but still plays the same system and same players who obviously don’t give a rats ass about themselves or the club. Let’s be honest, some of these guys have been around for a good while but where’s the individual improvements?. Do we work on set pieces, corners or free kicks. Are we working on crossing, marking and defending as a team? From what I’ve seen I think they have a good old jolly at Macky D’s for training. Well, at least Santos does..

Ha ha ha, finally adam sees the light. I have been convincing all those who case to listen that we cannot who any silverware under AW, now we cannot even win a match let alone put two wins together. We going to be like liverpool last reason under Roy. Can’t fans hold a protest to force the hand of the board? We need some fresh ideas at the club.
It`s time up for the manager, he can’t manage the league anymore. Only 3 league wins this year. Statistics don’t lie.

You constantly go on about sacking wenger who is it you gutless fans want then ? These signings will come good and your constant bleatings for a big signing like fabregas if you are arsenal fans you will no doubt know that he was a youth team player hardly a marque signing or if you care to remember dixon , bould or winterburn who all become household names that you yearn for back them or shove off. A true supporter backs his team through thick and thin can you claim to be a real gooner????

Adam you are right, how can you have faith in a manager who for 3 or 4 seasons now continues to take the team backwards. If he was going to halt the slide he would have done so by now. There are too many people connected with the club who think mid table is alright ( I include some fans in that), no wonder the best players want to leave and who can blame them. When you aim so low don’t be surprised if you fail big time. Until we get rid of this board and this manager Arsenal are going nowhere but down, they have no ambition and no clue.

I don’t agree. The last match was best in the season except the self goals. The self goals are related to some players (not always the scorers)who don’t deserve to be in arsenal shirts.Djourou, is an invitor of goals, penalties and scores self goals himself. This was evident in every game he has played in the last two seasons. When a player in not confident enough a) he clears the ball frantically and it gets straight to the opponents b)he mispasses c)he fouls the opponents unable tackle them d)he leaves the responsibility to other team mates when required to attack the opponent and finally e)he tries to show off when in a non danger position.Ignasi miqual is a far better defender than Djourou. In short it is better to play with 10 than with Djouru.
Alex song is another culprit every time he is in the field. He may have some decent performances, but even in them you see him creating some avoidable free kicks for the opponents which finally cost us the games.Even in the Dortmund game it was his Un-necessary foul that led to a free kick, clearance of which paved the way for equalizer.I admire Arsene Wenger, but dout on his belief in players like Song,Diabby,Denilson,Djourou,Gallas(past),Clichy(past),Almunia,Bendtner
We need not to be panic as yesterday we were far superior team except in physicality and all our goals were superb.

As a lifetime Gooner, I felt yesterdays performance summed it all up. Losing 8-2 to Utd was bad enough, but when thinking about it, they can do that to teams. But conceading 4 goals to a team that is likely to get relegated is shocking and a definite low point for our great club.
After watching Tottenham today, and to see the squad they have, as much as I hate to see it, I think we need to lower our expectations for the season. As I think we could fall behind our scummy neighbours for the first time in many many years!!

The big 5 just became the big 4 again. Seriously disappointed, depressed and tired of Arsenal. I think this season will now be the “wake up call” rather than “the bounceback”, the board rely on Arsenals reputation to keep the money flowing in, soon we’ll be a mediocre team with no dedicated supporters. No fans, no money no team.
I hate to say this (I was proud to have been a supporter of a home owned football club), but we need Usamov to step up a gear, we need one influential character that will be responsible for people’s actions. As we know Chelsea/City bosses come and go, because Abromovic invests so much he expects results. Wenger would barely last until Christmas at Chelsea, we need this fear as people are too comfortable in their positions.
Once the top has been sorted, it will resonate throughout the club.

Well it’s no mystery that the cause of Arsenal’s problems essentially are from the yank and majority shareholder, Stan Kroenke. He is the one who decides who the board members are, and it is the board members who decide how much AW can spend. Not to say AW is not to blame. Hell yes he is to blame big time. But let’s focus on, as someone so accurately put it ‘the root’ of the problem. The owner of the club, Silent Stan Kroenke. Well, it only hit me now, but if we want things to change, either Stan must realize how he is bleeding this once prosperous club and allow the board to locate more funds to the manager and buy the MUCH NEEDED quality players. I’m talking pretty much a whole new team here…realistically when you think about it, to compete with City, United, Chelsea we need almost two quality teams at AFC, our first team and just as good substitutes. We do not want to have to rely on clowns when people like Wilshere, Vermaelen etc are injured.
So IF Kroenke decides to allocate more funds to the board and essentially to AW, this is what I think should happen.
Get rid of players not title contender worthy. Kossie, Djoure, Chamakh, Rosicky, Arshavin, Jenkinson. That would provide us with a nice heap up and above the small amount (by that I mean FORTUNE) we made off Fabregas, Nasri, Clichy etc. Now we need to buy some world class players.
We will need 3 new defenders. One to replace Kossie, one to sub with Verminator when he is injured (which is alot these days) and a third one to sub with either Sagna or Santos.
Then in Midfield, Hazard, M’vila, Gotze. We would need M’villa now that Song/Pong are out for ACON. Hazard to replace Nasri and Gotze to replace Fab. We still have Wilshere and Arteta as first team or subs, depending on who we play. Give Benayoun back to Chelsea…he couldn’t make it in Liverpool or Chelsea why would he make it at Arsenal? Ramsey too is not up to the quality we need unfortunately. He is too slow.
Then I would buy another world class striker…a Rooney, Tevez type. Someone who will fight for every ball and is dangerous everytime he gets it. Perhaps Ch-Young is that guy and we don’t know it yet. Otherwise sell Arshavin, play Miyachi instead. I would then play RVP with Gerbil up front, and either Walcott or AOC RW. New striker could variate between Chu-Young and RVP depending on the team we play.
Remember though all the above is if Kroenke loosens his coin purse. Which is HIGHLY unlikely. That leaves us with the inevitable doom and gloom of AFC. No money, no quality players, no trophies. No trophies, more of our good players leaving, the cycle continues. End of the day the fans are the only ones who can do something about this. Kroenke’s bank account is only looking good because of us. Let’s change that please, for the love of our club. We want the days of glory back, we want to know that our club is being run by people who love it just as much as the fans. That is what it used to be like. Players wanted to play for AFC for that reason. What a disgrace it has become.

I up until yesterday had kept faith in Wenger but sadly have come to the conculsion that maybe his time is up? But on the other hand where does the true blame lie?
To me the club is stuck in the past, Wenger thiks he can play like he did 6-10 years ago and honesly believes the players he has are good enough. I watched the Liverpool-Spurs game today and my heart sank when the commentator said that the current Spurs team is better than the Arsenal one and that was the final straw for me Bye Bye Mr wenger you are the weakest link.

I don’t know why Mertesacker is copping the flack. He has actually been pretty solid overall for a guy with two EPL games under his belt. Koscielny has had a season and it is positioning and overall lack of awareness that is costing us.
If it was Verm and Mert in the back then we would be looking a very different defensive team. I think Djourou needs to be given ago alongside Mert.
Two own goals and a clear offside on the weekend hurt us. How Kosc sent that into the back of the net I do not know…defenders should know how to use both feet and when to use the right one!

No player can sort out the mess at the back. Wenger needs to face up to his shortcomings and admit he knows nothing about defensive organisation and get someone to help him there.
The defenders are all over the place and dont know what they are supposed to do, the midfield is neither here nor there and we do not utilise the speed of our wingers by putting in a proper CF to get to the end of the crosses or open the pocket for RVP.
May be Wenger should join the board and bring in a real coach who has to win to keep his job like everyone else in this world.

The problem is some people’s logical reasoning. They support Arsene not because he will deliver success, but because he did deliver success. “We’re grateful of him so he deserves to right to get away with this abysmal performance no matter how long it will continue,” …that way of thinking.
I daresay ALL of us are grateful of him, but that doesn’t make him godly and untouchable. Why don’t we have the right to voice doubts?

Saturdays match against Blackburn just goes to show what we all have known for a long time now but have only started to admit. Arsenal are not a big club anymore. We have undoubtably alongside Barcelona the best academy in the world, however that only allows us to be a feeder club same as the like’s of Lille, Valencia and Ajax. Yes we are one of the richest and biggest supported clubs on the map, but if results stay the same then that will change rapidly. I was in a bar with a colombian chick the other day and meet some of her housemates who hit me with what we know about ourselves only too well, “Chelsea and Man U are the best teams in England, Arsenal play good football but they don’t win anything”!!!
I don’t know what the solution is, sack Wenger?? Spend money?? Sit in the corner and cry?? There’s no doubting Wengers quality and accomplishments but there are serious errors in his methods. I do believe if every club in Europe was playing the same game that Wenger is we would be the best club in the world, but they aren’t and we definitely are not!! With £125million potentially to spend after the sale of more key players and this apparent £60million treasure chest to spend we’ve been sitting on for 3 years why not just go out and buy 5 £20million players on £100k a week wages?? Would it make us a better team?? YES!! Would it make us challengers home and in europe?? YES!!
When Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool finish second or worse this is what they do. I know it’s not ethical or sensible but it works and it’s necessary. There’s no point boasting you have the biggest bank account in the world when your friends live in Knightsbridge and you live in shitty Croydon (no offense). The last 6 years have been littered with failures, both on the title challenges (2005-present) and the player front (Narsi, Fabregas, Flamini, Adebayor, Helb, Toure Etc…) We’ve gotten into the habit of letting quality players go over contract negotiations of 5-10k, whilst keeping hold of players who if they were at our rivals would have been let go seasons ago (Diaby, Denilson, Bendtner, Almunia etc…)
I don’t know if things are as bleak as they look, 2 own goals and an offside against Blackburn, a point away against the German champions, that would’ve been a welcomed result in pervious successful years. Whilst Man U earn a point away at Benfica and get 2 offside goals in their favour and one deflected clearance to the feet of Rooney in front of an open net. All i do know is that in 10 or 20 years time we will all look back to the Wenger days with fond memories, albeit the early half but still with fondness whilst we walk past the statue of Wenger that will one day stand proudly outside the emirates.
Do we have the quality to beat Barcelona?? No, but we can. Do we have the quality to beat Norwich?? Yes, but we could easily lose. No one can predict the future, but either way me, you and even no 1 fan and brother Adam Kemp will still be watching and supporting our team whatever happens.
F@$k Spurs!!!

How will Cahill improve our defense? Bolton has been leaking goals this season. Johan Djrou is useless though. He cant even cross a ball

Adam always negativie… WOW…. we will win the next game and the one after that… and our winning streak will start. Our team will begin to gel.. lastly Walcott, ramsey and Djourou should be nothing more than subs.

Adam Kemp is never a prophet of doom but a critic with a positive mind,i have been following his write ups and his fears are being confirmed with every other match played by Wengers boys.I agree with him that Arsene was out to decieve every body at the begining of the transfer window when he promised an active transfer activity. Here is a man who claimed to be working hard to find quality players yet Several players associated with the club were not good enough and on deadline day, he brought in Mr availables under panic.Compare the impact of all the rejected players to the the ones he brought in and make ur judgement on the ability of Mr Wenger as a manager. Some people keep talking of his past glory but the present and of course the future is of greater importance. He has lost ideas, no more confidence, style of play remain the same, very predictable.Even Sir Alex would have thrown in the towel if he stays six years trophyless,so what option is left than leave the stage for another to occupy.ARSENAL is bigger than any individual, no sentiment pls.Up GUNNERS.

Even my younger brother decided to comment for the first time on one of my articles. If I could convince the biggest pro Wenger gooner that I may be right, then I may just be very correct!

surely Russel Taylor n others who share the same school of thought. How many cupless years do u want 2 endure so that u see the writing on the wall? Isn’t 6 yrs long enough?
Are we less of a fan when we demand results that befits our standin as in the glory days? Through thick n thin u say, how thin do u want it 2 get? It’s not a competition amongst fans 2 see who has the greatest luv for the club. seriously?
@Adam n thos who share similar thoughts.. I stopped watchin Arsenal’s games. I couldn’t bear the heartbreak anymore and also as a protest against the manager, the board and billionare owners. I’v had enough of their indifference and inaction.
I only follow through sport highlights n round ups.
