Adios Senor Almunia!

Posted on January 02, 2011 by admin

It clearly looks like Manuel Almunia has played his last game for the Gunners, and most Arsenal fans would suggest that he has outstayed his welcome by about six months.

Just about all the Arsenal blogs on the web were publishing articles saying that the 33 year-old Spaniard had to be replaced as it was revealed that Wenger had been scouring the market for a new goalkeeper to come to the Emirates.

But Wenger had no choice but to keep faith with Almunia when all his goalkeeping targets either proved too expensive (for Wenger) or their clubs wouldn’t let them leave. He came to regret that when Manuel was directly responsible for the Gunners losing 3-2 to West Brom and ever since then Almunia has been laid low with a long string of mystery injuries, which has necessitated him going to “rest” in Spain (while trying to find a new club).

Now Wenger has revealed that there is indeed interest from Spain, and he will be leaving the decision on where he goes to Almunia himself. Wenger said: “Manuel Almunia is a case I will treat with him. It’s up to him whether he stays,” said Wenger.

“There has been interest from Spain but it’s difficult to give a percentage over whether he’ll stay or not.

“It’s never easy to be out of the team but that’s part of our job.”

Hands up anyone who’s going to miss the lovable old clown……….

You don,t know what you,re talking about as Gallas,Silvestre and Campbell were responsible for the demise of Almunia ,that,s why the defence is much better now since these three clowns moved on and out of the Emirates, get your facts straight ,mister ?

agreed with the fellow above, our defence is still occasionally shaky but much much stronger than last year. fabianski has the confidence in goal that almunia could only dream of because he is supported by a good backline.

agreed almunia was’nt the best keeper we have had but our defence too must share in the blame if we take a look at the game we played against barca at the emirates he was the one person that kept us in that game during the 1st 15mins of the unslaught with brilliant saves and if anyone was to do a video on almunia we would proberbly appreciate him more.all that said i too agree its time for change but he did try he’s best for the club and never said a word inspite of all the critism remember life is’nt a bed of roses people have up’s and down’s even some of our past greats henry, lehman, seman, viera, bergham, pires etc they all had their moments but all ended up being regarded as legends i’m not saying almunia should be regarded as a legend but he was a loyal and faitful servant who gave us over 5 years of his career let us all please at least show him some respect i believe he deserves it…….thanks manuel for your dedication and i wish you the best in your career

Pls don point @ the barca game. That was just an isolated incident. This guy was total liability to the team. I put it to you that a good goalkeeper can win you titles regardless of whether the defence is shaky or not…If you followed Olympic Lyon’s progress in last yr’s champions league then you’l see my point…Every goalkeeper has his day but in the long run it narrows down to consistency. Its therefore grossly unrealistic to credit almunia for performing well in one match and literally selling us wholesale in 100 others!

@marrtin-kenya i guess u av a very short memory, how about champions league semi final away to MANURE 2 seasons ago b4 we lose it @ emirate, its a shame how u guys fail to see that d defence boost a goal keeper’s confidence, just look at how cech performed when JT was out.
Almunia i wish u all d best, u deserve better than d treatments our fans are showing u

There must be some nuts who think that our defence is better than last year. At least the stats don’t say that. Out of 29 matches that we played in all competition so far, we have been able to manage to keep clean sheet only 6 times. Does that say all ???

So stop comparing teams…Gallas was a wonderful player. Don’t mix up emotions with rationale ….

Almunia- all the best. Thank you for your services…you were average for Arsenal. wish you well

TBH you should not speak about him like that? he has done some good things for arsenal and he has not had the best of protection the last couple of years imo it’s good that he leaves cause he is not good enough but treat him with respect he has been loyal to us.

    To Adam Kemp:

You should just shut up. The reason: you write nonsense and are most depressing person.

    To Almunia:

Good luck whatever you decide to do. I wish you stay with Arsenal.

  17. Tom says:

Almunia was the best we had at the time. He wasn’t the best keeper in the league, but was the best we had. Obviously Fabianski and Chezza were not ready. So I think he did his best, and that’s all you can ask for in life. I’m sure you lot couldn’t have done any better, I’m 100% sure of that.

Before people say ‘oh we should have bought so and so’, you have got to think of many things. Could we afford him, would his club want to sell him, would the player actually want to come, would he adapt to the leagues standards. Who knows. I hate it when people say ‘if’, it’s like me saying, if my aunt had a cock – she would be my uncle’. It’s pointless saying it.

Almunia was the best keeper we had at the time. I’m thankful for what he did. He will go to Spain and be a good keeper, like he was for us. Not the best, but a good one. I think the world is low on top class goalkeepers.

I’m glad I’m not the only one backing Manuel Almunia. Unlike Adam Kemp I am grateful for everything Manuel has done and I am happy for him to stay at Arsenal! He did his best and never complained about the club. He deserves more respect than this pathetic blog gives him, fuck you!! Good luck Manuel :)

Are you totally thick or something? Don’t you remember the crappy comment you posted about booing Denilson last Wednesday, and the amount of abuse you received? You sir, are a dickhead.

I think i have to send you all back to the champions league final against barcelona, and show you closely how stupid the goals were. From that moment on he should have been forced to pack his belongings.

i admit he did save some good penalties, but matches against barcelona and manshitunited (just to mention the relevants) showed his real character.

@victor your argument is worrying-seriously. I might be having a short memory but its apparent that you’ve not watched almunia in goal more than twice. Am forced to assume you aint a gunner in d 1st place. I can point to you dozens of matches where this guy has done pure sh!t in goal with th most recent bein WBA. So you beta get your blurred statistics right!
