Agent confirms that Arsenal are in talks for South American star
It is being reported that Fiorentina are ready to cash in on Arsenal and Liverpool target Juan Manuel Vargas in the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old is a versatile player who can play at left back, on the wing, or in the midfield in both offensive and defensive positions. He is an excellent dribbler of the ball and is not afraid to shoot from distance. However, his most notable attribute is his ability to cross the ball. His Fiorentina teammate Alberto Gilardino has stated that Vargas is the best crosser he has ever played with.
In my opinion, ‘El Loco’ will be an ideal signing for the Gunners. His ability to play at various positions on the pitch can be a serious bonus considering our never-ending injury problems. Moreover, he is a natural leader and has great work ethic. With Andrei Arshavin set to leave and both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ryo Miyaichi still very much in the process of development, Vargas would be a great addition to the side.
There are reports in Italy suggesting that Vargas has been told by the Fiorentina board that he can leave in January for a fee of £15 million. But with Liverpool and Inter Milan both keen on the Peruvian, Le Boss has a battle in his hands if he wants to bring him to the Emirates.

Ummm, but we already have someone like that. Santos. He can play defensively, dribble and cross a ball. I would rather go for Baines. We need a dedicated defender, not a ‘jack of all trades, master on none’ type.

i think we should concentrate on throwing out the garbage (squid, chamakh, almunia, arshavin) n bringing back some loanees who r doing pretty on a loan i.e. Bartley, Vela, Campbell(if u can get him a permit it’ll be a mega signing this kid is the sh*t)n hopefully Sagna & wilshere will be ready.

There are two Vergas both being pursued by Arsenal. Eduardo Vergas is being pursued by Liverpool and Real Madrid as well while Juan Manuel Vergas is being pursued by Arsenal, Liverpool, Inter Milan and Spurs (although Spurs have slowed down on him). Juan Manuel is good for immediate use – especially while Gervinho is away on ACN. while the Chilean Vergas is a youth project like Oxo.
Both Vergas are being pursued and negotiations are being held. I would rather Juan so that we capitalise on the Gunners on loan to come back. Together with Vertongen, Granero, Kalou or Brek Shea or Renato Augusto or Podolsky can be a modest January transfer budget. I am not excited about Essien as a target. Xherdan Shaqiri no longer appeals to me like Jadson still does

@Malik I agree, we need to get rid of the plastic in our squad and bring in the real deal, players who want to play. Bartley could be the answer to our defensive issues, instead of spending more money on players like Vertonghen, Vargas or Baines. If we had money to spend, I’d rather it be on a world class striker to replace RvP if needed and visa versa.
Also some people keep bringing up Brek Shea. We won’t get him because last month he extended his contract with his current club FC Dallas till 2015. Pity.

Juan manuel vargas is probably better defensively than andre santos and gibbs and is better going forward than the pair of them, he’s peru’s international captain ( may not be a big country ) but it says a lot to captain your country, he has been outstanding the past couple of years in serie A, he would be a brilliant left back because he can defend just as good as he can defend which i was we need. We NEED to get rid of chamakh, he is so lazy, arshavin is just the same, ive seen matches and thought we had 9 players on the pitch when them 2 play, fuck chamakh back of to france for 10 mil and send arshavin back to zenit for 10 mil, we’ve still got money left over from the summer, a lot of money, get moussa sow, brilliant goalscorer, big player, works wonders with gervinho, bring in vargas for left back, and for fuck sake finally spend a bit of money on gotze and hazard, that would make our team back to its best, could probably do with bringing in another centre back because i think per wont get use to the premier league!!

wenger keen on these trio..podolski cn be cntral striker n left wing- when gervinho goes on african cup he cn plays on the left flank and cn also b rvp position. great addition for striker than sow. soldado wud b great too bt still podolski! chamakh n bendtner permanntly out!

The only player we should even think about buying is götze. He is that good! We have plenty of young talent that can make a difference, there are few circumstances in which we should stray from the usual transfer policy. One has been seen this season when we needed to
Pull in some depth and class, the other is when a young player of götze’s quality wants to come and compete and win championships.
