Almunia and Squilacci to return for Arsenal – Good news?
Manuel Almunia is set to make a devastating return to the Arsenal squad as, apparently, the current keepers are not making enough mistakes.
I joke of course, but it is true, he may well be in the squad to face Huddersfield at the weekend after shaking off injuries to his face, head and ribcage after beatings from Arsenal fans. I joke again, elbow and ankle injuries to be exact.
There are doubts over when Lucasz Fabianski will be fit again, and the boss also confirmed that Diaby and Squillaci will be fit for Sunday:
“The only uncertainty I have is Rosicky. I don’t know if he’ll be fit or not. He was really sick. Almunia has a chance, Lukasz Fabianski no and with Thomas Vermaelen we need to be patient.
“Squillaci and Diaby will be in a squad,”
There is good news on Sagna as well who was released from hospital on Wednesday following a sickening clash of heads with Wojiech Szczesny in the penalty area in the first half against Ipswich. His scans have returned clear and he is feeling as strong as ever:
“Sagna is as good as he can be. Yesterday he was at home and he still had a little bit of a headache. All the examinations made at the hospital were clean.
“He should be available for Sunday. If not Sunday then on Tuesday (against Everton).”
Things seem to be going really well injury-wise at the moment. The strength of the squad is showing with our first choice keeper and center-back out of contention, we are still keeping clean sheets and playing very well indeed.
It all bodes well for the rest of the season, but I’m not too sure that the return of either Almunia or Squilacci will actually strengthen the team, except as cover for the present incumbents……

It is always good to have more players. Both have experience and can do a job for us. Even though I expect Djouro, Koscielny and Fabianski to be first choice.
This seaosn I have seen Evans, Smalling, Lescott, Ferreira and many more make bad mistakes and offer far less to the teams around us as reserve defenders than squilacci offer us.

only that we cannot afford their costly mistakes, bt anyway they are good for the sake of rotation, coz i know Everton will be trying to prove a point.

Of course it is good news.
They are both prone to occassional mistakes but when they are not making those mistakes, they are as solid as any can be.
Like on Squillaci’s case seriously, people blame him for the Wigan goal and it was a goal anyway even if he didn’t make connection with the ball, the person to blame should have been the one who allowed that ball to be played back accross the face of goal!.
Almunia last game was to say the least…mmmmmmm…..calamitous, but in the few games before that he was doing just fine
I have seen the likes of Gary Cahill and Christopher Samba make worse mistakes than Squillaci and concede cricket like mumbers of goals so I don’t know what is so special that all Arsenal fans are seeing in them to go so crazy about them…..they are as average as our own Squillaci, it is just that the grass always looks greener out there. They are both very talented but there is a reason that they are both stuck at relatively bottom level clubs……….Like Liverpool realised when they signed Robbie Keane.
As for the likes of Per Mertesacker, the guy is slower than those ancient steam engines and despite being a rock at the back, I’d bet on Koscielny stopping the likes of Fernando Torres better than Per………despite Per being my favourite among the rumours.

What a joke!!!! clean sheets? yes clean sheets but against which opposition?. the answer is known against weak championship sides and relegation threatened EPL clubs ofcourse. Lets wait if it will be the same clean sheets when we face Barca, unfortunately by then the transfer window will have long been shut and poor wenger will be on his own. our GK will be the only one collecting the ball from the back of his net all the time but God forbid.

squillaci needs time, so let’s be patient with him. Then for Almunia, i still wants him to remain d second keeper at arsenal. Good to hear that our last bus stop Sagna is back. U’re welcome brother.

@Robert, Right so we will be facing Barca everyday
Manu conceded 1 less than us and that after playing shittier opposition. They haven’t played Chelsea yet and we have played Chelsea twice
Please don’t make a reason to moan if there is none.

no…it’s not good news that squillaci is back…because we have an abundance of CBs……
now we can rotate djourou/koscielny and have cover for injuries. hoping vermaelen’s recovery is progressing well.
disappointing about fabianski…we need him back; shesny is doin well, but fabianski is much more convincing.

I agree with the facts that gary cahill and samba are not much better than the centre backs we have now, to me koscielny has improved massively since da start of da season and has potential to become a world class defender at arsenal, now squillaci hasn.t been so convincing but I don’t blame him for da wigan goal, it was inevitable. As for Almunia I truely would not want to see him as arsenal’s 1st or 2nd goalkeeper, I think szczesny has a bigger presence on da field and gives the defenders confidence even though his young

@ Robert, create your own fairy tale defenders and goal keepers as real life defenders and goal keepers MUST concede goals every now and then in their careers, I don’t know what you find amazing about that.
Barcelona sounds like a nightmare to you also, did you really expect that Arsenal will be playing weak opposition all along?, wake up and enjoy football whichever way it goes and stop whining!.

I never ever want to see Almunia between the sticks again, the man is a calamity waiting to happen in every game

The only calamities Arsenal had were Campbell,Gallas and Silvestre, they,re gone and Arsenal,s defence is much better now without three ball watching clowns ,so Almunia deserves his chance if he actually gets it against Huddersfield ?

I know Robert could of worded it better but come on realy he has half a point. We are keeping clean sheets against weaker teams but how will we do against Barca? Keep the faith never the less but it is a valid oppinion.

As long as almunia doesn’t play against barcelona i will certainy be a good addition to the squad… The guy loves to pose for leonora messi’s goals, also luisa nani’s and cristina ronaldo’s. It’s like they bribe him to make their goals look better.

Honestly, can anyone be as bad as Silvestre, and Arsenal won some games with him. Squillaci is a better cover. Almunia should be sold as he is clearly past it. Should go to a championship side.

Some of you nuts & squids who are voicing for Squi & Almunia- just wait till the time the season ends.. knowing our Arsenal team ( injury prone ) it’s just a matter of time we would be ruing our missed chance to sign a CB cover… Sui is worse than Gallas any day… he is a slow buffoon like some of you tarts who can’t see reality

Return of Squi ia a curse for Arsenal – and today’s performance against Hudds proved once more… Dickhead Wenger where have you picked up this prick ???
And Denilson- God, when can we see him leaving Arsenal…why can’t someone kick him out.. he is dreadful…can’t tackle & yet play as a Defensive Midfielder…Wenger needs to pack his bags along-with him if he decides to play him anymore…
Hope Bendtner, Diaby, Chamkah all get sidelined for the rest of season & stop us seeing their foolery in the pitch
