Another typical Wenger signing!
Arsenal have been linked with quite a few Borussia Dortmund players this season since playing them twice in the Champions League, especially the young genius Mario Gotze, but in typical Wenger style, the Gunners have instead bought another midfielder from the Bundesliga club.
The 19 year-old Thomas Eisfeld is available for less than half a million Pounds for two reasons. First of all he has hardly played for Dortmunds first team and he is entering the last six months of his contract.
Secondly, the youngster will be having extensive medical tests today because he suffered a possible “career-threatening” injury to his cruciate ligament in 2009, which severely arrested his development in Germany.
Wenger obviously thinks that the young attacking midfielder is worth the gamble and could be a great investment if he has recovered completely from his injury (a la Samir Nasri), and at his age he has lots of room to grow in stature and talent.
But it is very doubtful that he will be going straight into the Arsenal first-team squad. Typical indeed…….

Aye caramba!Samba wants out,Hazard wants out, then Wenger plucks an injury-prone youngster from the Dortmund bench. Just when I think I’ve figured him out, he pulls one of these. Can’t wait to see what rabbit he pulls out of god-knows-where before the transfer window shuts

another youngster who wants to show his talent to the world..today, if any youngsters want to be a star (played for their countries)but never got chance, they know where to go and who will make them..ARSENE WENGER…sadly, when it happened, they start to make problem with this ARSENAL FC..(salary demanding)and then the solution is…you all know whats happened..

Had it not been for the injury it would’ve been likely that he’d be in the first team ahead of Goetze. He has the talent and is a similar player to Goetze it’s simply a case of whether he can get over the injury; much like Nasri did.

@ Ahmed & mode! It cuts both ways though. The reason why AW gets these young, potentially talented players in the first place is that he can resell them after drastically increasing their value at the Emirates. As simple as that! It makes for a great business model, but an extremely poor idea on a sportive stand point.

Most of You here are plain pathetic!!! Henry was right telling a supporter to get behind the team, he should have done it Cantona style indeed.
We’ve got our team in the CL, in the FA Cup and sitting in 5′th in the league after loosing 3 very important players and having another 6 badly injured. Meanwhile Liverpool are 7′th after spending like a billion and still Dalglish is labeled a King while You want Arsene’s head. Sick!!!
Arsene knows what he’s doing and knows a bit bout the transfer market – remember Cahil? What did Arsene bid? 6 mln!!! What did most of You shout out then? “You suck”, “You’ve lost Your senses” “You don’t know what You’re doing” turned out, he was’nt that much wrong – Chelsea got him for 7 mln…
Arsenal are’nt Man City and I hope never will be. They can’t just give any random player 25-30 mln and 200 thousand a week. That’s not what football is about.
Arsene recently made only 2 mistakes i can remember: letting Eboue go and not buying Madjid Boughera (who went to Iran for 1.7 mln!!!).
Szczezney – Sagna – Kos – Verm – Santos – Song – Arteta – Ox – Wilshere – Walcott – RVP is a team that can challenge anyone, everywhere and everytime. We don’t need anyone else. Trust me, i know a bit bout football. All we actually need is all the blokes to finally be freakin’ healthy!!!
Stop whining!!! Start supporting!!!

Who said he becomes a good player then leaves? dont 99% of players leave? Even pat rice who has been with arsenal almost 50 years left before returning. bergkamp has left ian wright has left everyone has to leave eventually and why shouldnt players want to try themselves at other clubs in different leagues and live in different countries if they want. the fact is football has changed no longer do players play every match nor do they stay at one clib. i know if i was a playrr i would want to play in spain italy and the us as well england. england is a hreat league to hone your talent then at around 25/26 i would move to spain then around 29/30 i would try my luck in italy before ending my career with a lucrative move to the us qatar or the up and coming leagues of china and india.
as for this.19 year old used correctly he could be.the petfect undrrstuday to rival rsey and probably replace rosicky or benayoun.

Wenger’s excuse for refusing to go for Gourcouff was because he felt we had many players in the midfield but he was able to reserve space for Thomas who is three places down the pecking order at BVB indeed a typical Wenger signing.

@Bring back my Arsenal
He is a signing for the reserve team I hear. ALso he is 19 and that does not require the player to be registered unlike Gurcuff.

We know this is not the signing we all hope for. BUT if he is over his injuries he could be a decent buy for next year onwards. We have to give him a try. He has been trained up with Goetze And would probably been fine had he not got the injury. An attacking midfielder is what we crave and as our position is this year making top players wait for the end of season to see what competitions we get into for next year and with euros coming up players will stay where they are on top of their game. So this could be his chance to show what he can do looking to the future with no threat of euros taking him so he could improve. So I say give him a chance and lets get a striker for now. Please

I don’t understand the fans’ frustrations. This guy only turned 19 this month, he was ear marked to be a huge player at Dortmund, but a serious knee injury delayed his progression, which allowed Goetze to overtake him in the pecking order. He elected not to sign a new contract because playing opportunities at Dortmund would be limited.
A signing for the future, 400k its win win. If he is a flop who cares? If he becomes like Goetze fantastic!
He will not go into the first team straight away, he won’t be taking up a place that may be taken in the summer by Hazard. We have Rosicky, Benayoun and Arshavin all 30+ years of age. It’s prudent to look at replacing them with young up and coming talent.
He is under 21 and therefor doesn’t need to be registered for the CL. This is Arsenal we are talking about. Nasri signed at 21, Henry -21, Fab -16, Szsezney -16, Clichy-19, Song-18, etc. etc. etc. We have always signed young players and they have, more often than not become top quality players or better!
Relax lads, this is a move for the future, and this guy is not your answer to this seasons’ problems. As for that, we won’t be singing players such as Podolski, Vertonghen or Hazard durnng this transfer window. Those teams will not sell now, they have no time to find replacements. BIG SIGNINGS HAPPEN IN THE SUMMER! Those big singings in January more often than not fail, Torres, Carroll to name a couple.

With regard to injury prone players….Clichy was injury prone, but got over it and gave a solid 4 years without serious injury. Szesney has broken both of his arms while playing at Arsenal. No one seems to have noticed but remember when Walcott was injured all the time? not so much any more. Players can be injury prone, but they do get over it, as they learn how to deal with their bodies.
People have said they want Gourgouff, well he is the most injury prone player you could want….Goetze is injured right now, as is Podolski. So are they all injury prone?
This lad has had ONE big injury and some of you are saying he is injury prone.
Ridiculous

Awesome signing, gives longterm perspective for the midfield and good competition, better than spending all the ticket money on some old, stinking rich fart with an ego the size of jupiter (last part supposedly fits the describtion of Hazard). Can believe how many people are so envious of ManC – whining about how we should by the next Torres, tevez or Carroll. I say stick to to core ideals, sell of the deadweight but contract RVP – whateverittakes. What ever you do, dont sell that cow.

I’m not sure how long some of you guys have been Arsenal fans, but we have never signed BIG players in the January transfer window. It just doesn’t happen.
You all need to stop panicking, wait until the summer. Bigger names will come. They just won’t in January 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016……
We had 6 first team players injured, 4 have returned.
Sagna is a MASSIVE boost and will allow our wingers to play their game. Gibbs is back in 3 or 4 days, Diaby has a test today and should return soon. That leaves just Jenkinson, Wilshere and Santos out.
Cheksea are buying because they need to, they have an ageing team. Young players are becoming available to them and so they are signing. I don’t think Cahill is world class, and kevin de Byrne is going back to Gent on loan…he is a similar player to Eisfeld, young and unproven.
Most people commenting seem to have hit the panik button, as if they were expecting Hazard, goetze(injured for 1 month), and podolski(injured for 1 month) all to come today.
1 of those MAY come in the summer, and thats Podolski….

Well said Travis, spot on mate. We sign a kid who has had one injury, albiet quite major, and he is termed as injury prone. So was RVP until this season so get real guys. Also everyone calling for Podolski and Goetze now obviously do not know they are injured for at least a month. All this “why don’t we sign x and why don’t we sign y”, do these lot think you just go up to their club like going into a corner shop for your weekly shopping!
