Are Arsenal just concentrating on the League?
Something has caught my eye over the last few weeks. In the Cup competitions Arsene hasn’t seemed that bothered by defeats and seems determined to put all his resources into the Premier League campaign. Yes, we have fielded slightly stronger teams in the Carling Cup this season but there have still been a lot of changes made in games that have really showcased our strength in depth.. well, most of the time!
Arsene could have put a full strength team out against Leeds (taking away suspensions + injuries), but he didn’t, preferring to rest his players for the game against West Ham and only making a splattering of changes for the abomination that was that game at Portman Road against Ipswich.
The whole approach was different in last night’s game, there was something extra about the team – an extra desire, passion, that little bit more class. It really does make me wonder if the league is being viewed as the main priority this season. The Carling Cup is an added extra, the mid-season kick-start that we may need if we go all the way. There is still a hell of a lot of work to do there but if we play like we did yesterday we can turn over Ipswich at home.
What do you think about the order of priority to the competitions this season? Has our Champions League draw had an impact on it? It is noticeable how the club have managed to sell out a 60,000 capacity stadium for the fourth choice trophy (theoretically) for the second time this season as well.
The club has a thirst for success and really needs to find the oasis that is a silver pot this season, desperately. The drought has gone on for too long.
So, what do you readers think? Is the Carling Cup the number one, or is it the Premier League…… can we realistically turn-over Barca?
There’s a bit of debate before your Sunday roast!

We are Arsenal. The Premier League should be our target. Granted, the CC could spur us on to greater success, but we shouldn’t lose out on the big prize, the BPL! As for the Champions League, I really think it’s about the tie against Barca, if we beat them and get a good draw, we can rally give it a go. I rhink AW isn’t looking beyond Barca for now.

Every competition is very important for the confidence of Arsenal.Winning the carling cup can only creat more confidence and perhap a boost to bringing in the premiership title. And there is no crime involved if Arsenal wins the treble. The west ham spirit must be sustained if we have to do this.I still believe Barca is not a team out of this planet Earth. When we get to that bridge, we surely will cross it.

I think we have targeted all the four, except the boys have shown more anger, determination and character( except against United) for championship more than the others.
No one is fooling anyone here, when (not if) we win the carling cup, people will quickly say its only a mickey mouse cup that doesn’t prove anything! The only way to truly put to bed any future debates on trophy issue is to win the epl. There and only then will shut em down. Ofcourse a few loose cannons (Hansen et al) will always hallucinate as usual how this was the weakest premiership season in history.

The Carling cup has to be taken seriously, off course we want to win but that said we are not a winning team like man u or barca for that matter with a winning mentality. winning the carling cup would certainly be a starting point for this and can only be a stepping stone towards winning the PL and so on. as for the CL i would love for arsenal to beat barca after the demolishing of the 1man messi show last season(when bendtner scored actually thought we might be able to do it) but watching barca throughout this season, the progress they are making is incredible and honestly don’t think we can beat them(i know i said it) but i think this is necessary a good thing, this leaves us to concentrate on the PL and FA cup provided we beat leeds on wed. so i think the PL has to be the priority, but to win that we must win the carling cup and with a performance like yesterday, turning over a 1-0 deficit shouldn’t be a problem at home.

well it is right wenger or any manager fields his stronger side in the league especially when you in top three, and only a few points off the top,our squad is big enough to challenge and rotate in cup games, on paper the teams fielded against both leeds and ipswich were strong and good enough to win, the trouble was that certain players(arshavin/denilson/bendtner) thought it would be a stroll in the park, and have egos that make them think they better then what they are (bendtner /arshavin)and were’t and never do like to work hard to get results.
the really good thing to come out these two games is i believe wenger will sell the three players mentioned in the summer,as the three off them lack the quality we need at arsenal.
as for filling a 60,000 stadium for league cup the reason simple, at £10/£20 a ticket, it the only way a lot fans can go to games , especially parents who take thier kids.

Until we can sort out a reliable, settled and established back four, I would suggest the primary aim at Arsenal should be to qualify for the succeeding season’s CL*. Anything else would be a bonus.
*As a business, Arsenal simply cannot afford not to play in Europe EVERY season.

Maybe nasri & van persie having knocks for the two cup games might be a good reason for wenger to leave them out
. Players arent capable of playing 3 times a week every week.

I believe it is very important for us to win the Carling Cup to instill confidence and belief among the players. Now is the time for them to deliver against Ipswich and in the Final. Squad players like Bendtner, Denilson, Arshavin, Eboue, Rosicky etc must perform when they start and then we can seriously think about the league. We need two almighty performances against Barcelona to get through, but with a settled defence with at last the right goalkeeper any thing is possible
