Are Arsenal ready to move for Yanga-Mbiwa?

Posted on January 05, 2013 by Bob

What Yanga M’Biwa offers by KJ

There has been a lot of early activity in the transfer market already. This includes Arsenal shifting Maroane Chamakh on loan to West Ham for the rest of the season. However, there is still a lot of work to be done. Djourou looks certain to join Hannover on loan and the club is doing it’s best to shift Squillaci and Arshavin to free up the wages for some arrivals.

One name that’s on everyone’s lips is Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa. With Wenger actively looking to flog two centre backs, it’s only natural that we’d want at least one to bring in.

M’Biwa is a class act with a lot of aggression and passion to his game. He’s a born leader, captaining Montpellier at such a young age. He’s also quite a bit of a beast.

However, the question is why would Wenger sign a class defender to be 4th or at best 3rd choice? It doesn’t make sense. But M’Biwa is more than just your conventional centre back. He can play as a right back as well as a central defensive midfielder. His versatility is what makes him such an attractive prospect to many clubs around Europe.

Hopefully Wenger can use his nationality as his edge in this transfer (which we all desperately want to go through). However, we’ll need to be patient as the remainder of this week and next week will revolve around shifting as many players as possible to open up the wages. I’m sure Wenger has shortlisted the candidates he wants signed and is waiting to pull the trigger when enough wages are freed up.

He’s a good player, no doubt about that but has the defending been that poor this season that we need to buy a new CB that might not even play for an entire season. Looking at the beginning of the season, the defence was perfect and the praise was heaped on Steve Bould. I’m sure if he is allowed to work his magic on the training ground, the current defence will get stronger.

I doubt we’ll see any official signings until after Wenger has shifted the deadwood. He’s already shown his initiative by loaning Chamakh, with Djourou heading out the door as well. He tried to loan Arshavin to Reading, but Andrei declined, and I think he’s probably trying as hard as possible to get rid of Squillaci.

I think Wenger wants to be sure of how large a wage budget he’d be freeing up before really asserting himself in this transfer window. He knows, just as we do, that this month may be one of the most pivotal in his careers, and I trust him to make the right decisions.

Did wenger personally tell you that he has decided to buy mbiwa? The fact that we have scouted him does not mean we intend to buy him for sure. The job of the scouts is to have a ready list of the kind of players arsenal will like, should incase we need to buy tommorrow. You see the difference? We arsenal supporters like torturing ourselves. We should have learned by now. Lower your expectations and just hope for the best. But dont go obsessing about particular players. You are most likely going to be dissappointed and heart broken.

If we do buy him i think the Arsenal would prob have man for man the best set of CBs in the PL, we’d just have to learn how to defend better as a team. If we then add Shaw and he’s as promising as we all hope he is well then our defensive back line looks sorted.

It definitely looks like we are going to introduce new faces in the defence, atleast one anyway.

Surely Wenger realises that an Arteta injury would be a disaster, or even that a real physical presence through the centre is a mismatch and we can get over run.
Hopefully Wenger will reinforce this area.

With Chamakh getting shipped out i believe its a certainty, along with the defence, that he will look to bolster this area.

  59. It is astonishing to see how many players we have missed out on just for a couple of million. Cahill, Mata, Debuchy, Holtby, Llorente, Ba and many more. On the other hand we have not made efforts to sign any world class players like Sneijder, Fellaini, Jovetic or Mbiwa.
Wenger should do something big now or he’ll lose his supporters.

Jan 3-13 – First of all, what I have said is that we have to make sure the players who are here stay here. After that, we’ll look outside, so let’s try and finalise the deal with Theo Walcott and after if we need something else we’ll look outside…

Ummm… WTF! Which is which here?

While it’s good to throw around names and hope for the best, Wenger is one of the most frustrating people to read. Knowing Arsene, I’d rather be pessimistic, and think I won’t see any new faces this month.

@josh09 That explains why he always plays so sh*t for us.

If you look at Wenger’s recent signings, most of them have been absolute rubbish. Let’s be honest here. Cazorla is probably the only one worth two bob, and maybe Chamberlain.
The rest are just too inconsistent. Selling RvP and Song I still think was a massive mistake. Imagine where we would be with them two still in the squad.

The day we stop selling our best playing and focus on building and strengthening the squad, is the day we might challenge for titles. For now, according to ‘realists’ like Dr Peppper, we will just have to trust the board and wait another two years until they have the funds to start doing that. What a joke. By that time, Arsenal will be the new Liverpool and it will take a hell of a lot of money to get out us out of the ditch.

    look at it like this!

We have a weak squad without anyone departing or going out on loan,
With some deadwood being shifted or reported to be, we will be in more desperation of Quality replacements! It’s who? we won’t know about until its official!

I do think there will be 2-3 players In this window as next seasons PL money shoots up ridiculously
So the higher you finish up the table the more money a club gets ( bottom relegated team will claim around £61million) now with that said Arsenal being buisness minded know although the new T.V windfall is a massive inheritance they still need to fit into the fair play revenue bit they’ve been doing for years as it goes live to everyone next season. Hence why the clear out now before buying!

Also bear in mind if we fail to grab a top four spot this season then “the quality names ” we would seek in the summer are likely to want to go to other champ league qualified clubs!

Wenger must know this and knows its on for him to do buisness now!

If the clear out happens and no one comes then my fellow gooners it’ll be evident that this club has been sold for gold and bled dry into the ground until nothing left!

Wenger says only great players but still looking for cheaper alternatives!10-15 million players have proved unsuccessful and waste of money! Top, top players is what we lifelong fans have been after for 10 years! Only need to add 3-4! We could easily have won epl or cl in last 8 years with addition of world class signings and most likely hung on to our best players! I understand it maybe was not possible then with the move but it definatly is now, stop this crap wenger or go do it elsewhere!! Jovetic or cavani, sneidjer, mbia, shaw! In arsene I would trust again!!!!

  90. Dan says:

If he were to play like he did against us every week I think you’ll find he’d be the first name on the team sheet. But I think Wenger would want to play him next to Jack. He wanted to play Vertonghen in that position, but he didn’t want to. Be interesting to see if this guy is willing.

Did this guy not say he wants to play for Utd last week?

@ PAN – well said its nonsence to talk about Arsenal buying these players. Dont get me wrong JUSTARSENAL could talk about if they are good players and would they fit but lets be honest dont say is it the right time to buy a player because the answer is NO. Not unless the board is replaced
