Are Newcastle a credible threat to Arsenal’s Top Four ambitions?
Arsène Wenger has, quite rightly, not given up hope of gaining a place among the ‘Big 4’, as they have done continuously since 1996. His squad have undoubtedly shown impressive signs of improvement across the pitch and, although it might be too early to tell whether this will continue.
If it does, though, the chances of Arsenal gaining ground on their usual neighbours in the table – Liverpool, Spurs, and Manchester City – will be increased each week.
Unfortunately, though, Newcastle have moved in. The Magpies are sitting comfortably in fourth place, joint on points with Chelsea and have looked a formidable force both at home and away. The fact that they aren’t involved in Europe gives them that extra advantage in some senses over teams like Arsenal.
They might not be able to keep this kind of form going, but the fact that they are 12 points ahead of the Gunners already and that they have a relatively injury-free squad does suggest that Wenger’s men might struggle to push them aside when battling for a European place – whether it’s Champions League or Europa League. It seems very unrealistic saying that Newcastle will be amongst Europe’s elite teams next season, but they have shown top four performances in the past two months.
They have shown the crucial ability to win games despite not playing at their best. Have Arsenal shown this enough yet?
Will the Magpies really prove to be much of a thorn in Arsenal’s side? Or, will they drop like a stone, allowing the Gunners to rightfully regain a place at the top?

When they start facing big teams away they will crumble. They can’t keep it going, they could have easily lost to wigan yesterday. It is only a matter of time until they start dropping points.

is it just me, or admin is a little bit short on maths. Lets see: 19 pnts – 10 pnts is 9 pnts difference not 12 while we still have a game in hand. If we won that; am sure we will as far as the ball boys keep the towels wet for that delap, it’ll b only a 6 pnts difference. Given we’r Goooners, that is nothing. And don’t forget that we’ll shoot straight up to number 7 on the league table if we win today.

Arsenal will not loss the place to an unambitious club who try to sell the best player in the beginning of the season. They have prepared for the worst, but get lucky so far.

Newcastlewill fall away and arsenal will improve from now till the end of the season…but they are so short of firepower its ridiculous to believe we will finish higher than 7th. “He who laughs last, laughs best”. Isn’t that typical of what is happening to our great club? We were crying few months ago, but on a weekend when all our supposed rivals (ManU, Chelsea, Liverpool & Spurs) are crying either because they didn’t win a winnable game or lost ingloriously we are laughing. I just hope and really just hope that this will be replicated by the end of the season.
