Arsenal and Liverpool both chasing same two defenders
Both Liverpool and Arsenal are both looking for a top class centre-back to shore up their defences ahead of the new Premiership season, and according to reports they are both trying to decide between the same pair of candidates.
The Mail reports that Pat Rice and Steve Crowley were both among the scouts at Tottenham’s training ground yesterday to watch a friendly between Spurs and Birmingham, and to assess Scott Dann’s performance for the visitors.
He was overshadowed by some Spurs youngster’s, especially Harry Kane who scored in hat-trick in just 15 minutes for the home side who won the game 6-3, but the Liverpool-born Dann is also being watched by Kenny Dalglish’s scouts as they weigh up a bid.
But the big centre-back’s next club may be more determined by whether Arsenal or Liverpool win the race to sign Bolton’s Gary Cahill, who was also watched by both team’s in Bolton’s 1-0 defeat by Levante on Friday.
The England man will certainly cost more than Dann, but in today’s market you get what you pay for and I sincerely hope that Arsenal sell Nasri and immediately invest some of the proceeds on taking Gary Cahill to the Emirates.

I Don’t really give a hoot if fab and Nasri leave. We just need a stealth defender of immense grit. Cahill for me fits perfectly.

i think wenger should sell both fabregas and nasri,because a not too good ramsey or even rosicky playing with all his mind will perform better than a world class fabregas and nasri playing with their heart some where else..with the right price,mata would be an arsenal player.cahill and samba/per.would make arsenal title contenders

I like Troy’s proposition and i think we can add Per Mertesacker to that list as he will only cost us #6m and we can be sure of lifting the premiership trophy at the end of the season.Even if all we get is one of Hazard/Mata, plus Cahill and Per. It will be considered as most of the supportesr as a succesful transfer market.

Do u guys think that Wenger is gonna buy a C.B, L.o.l. He is done with signing except Joel Campbell, and again another thophyless season. I think Arsenal f.c has change every thing, except the manager Arsenè Wenger. And please dont forget to sell Cesc and Nasri, cos their mind is no longer with the club and they wont put in their best. I’ve been saying for months Mertesaker and Cahill would be ideal, Danns is decent however I think the whole playing for your home team club blah blah I’m a scouser king kenny mentality will prevail for him. I don’t think we’ll buy both Mert or Cahill so it’s a case of the best value for money.

Eventhough Cahill would be a fitting candicate, he is overpriced. I am sure both Per and Dann can cover for our not ( so bad this time ), center backs. We need a strong no nonsense CB and not forgeting that he should be a clean tackler. My choice would be : Per Mertesacker, Scott Dann plus Mata. Cesc and Nasri are both good players but whats the use of trying to keep a player who is not happy where he is. Sell them. Yes Cesc HAS at least given us his best in this past 8 years. Nasri is just money crazy and I hope he does not regret like the rest of them.

i know alot of people will be pissed at me saying this but Joel f*&kin Campbell is a motherf$%kin gun, i saw him play in the under 20′s WC vs Australia end result was 2-2 Australia absolutely dominated but then Joel Campbell did some NASRI/MESSI sh%t n grabbed a brace give that guy a year 2 cope with the league n then chamakh n bendtner can go f$%k themselves

Koscielny can play DM.
Don’t be surprised if Wenger buys TWO central defenders and a goalkeeper. Remember he tried buying the Ajax goalkeeper a couple of months ago. He must have considered a goalkeeper necessary. The attack is already finished with so forget talk about Mata, Benezema, Campbell, etc. With the Japanese player Ryo getting a WORK PERMIT we don’t need Mata or any other player attack player. This guy is like a cross between C.Ronaldo/Messi. Plus we have Gervinho and Chamberlain who is a clone of Walcott, but one which can score goals.
Attack is well sewn up, it is put to bed, it is complete. Concentration now is solely on defensive players.

just to clear something up… forget hazard, wenger has bought gervinho and chamberlain, why would he buy another similar player… and tehe is no guarantee that nasri or cesc will leave… i am sure cesc won’t cos barcelona don’t have the money, and nasri said himself, don’t belive everything you see in the papers…

Arsene says there’s nothing wrong with his defence in fact he said ‘we have top quality in those positions’. Perhaps we should all just accept he’s not going to strengthen at the back and enjoy our summer. If he was going to do something he probably would ( should) have done it by now. He clearly thinks defending is something lesser teams have to worry about and that his team are too good for that sort of thing. He’s wrong of course but life would be easier if we just accept that’s the way it is.

It is very difficult for mere mortals like us to understand how Wenger reasons. Pay 12m for Chamberlain… I dont get it! Serious Managers are buying players who will add immediate valour. Wenger only buys for ‘tomorrow’.. a tomorrow that never comes. Besides, I do not see the sense in holding on to players whose hearts are somewhere else. One does’nt have to be a street soccer to know positions in the team that need reinforcement… it is sooooo glaring!

Arsene is the closest thing to God for Arsenal. We were going nowhere and winning nothing when he arrived. Despite that he needs to think about this season, not who’s going to be a star in 2015.
Buy quality defender’s Arsene. We have the attack to trouble anyone but our defence is shaky and vulnerable. Two centre back’s out of Jagielka, Cahill, Samba and Mertesecker and we will keep any team at bay. Juan Mata would be the icing on the cake.
We all know that United, City, Chelsea and Liverpool are awash with money to spend. Why won’t our major share holder’s throw in a few lousy million to keep us competitive. Otherwise we may find ourselves on the slippery slope to European oblivion.
Sell Nasri and Cesc. There’s no point in keeping player’s who’s heart’s and footballing soul’s are elsewhere. The money we reap will help to buy quality replacements.
