Arsenal and Tottenham to fight in out for top Premiership midfielder
It is being reported this morning that Arsenal and the team they massacred yesterday, Tottenham, are set to go head-to-head this summer to try and bring in the top midfielder that has taken the Premiership by storm this season, Stephan Sessegnon.
The classy attacking midfielder only cost Sunderland £6million when he arrived last January from Paris St. Germain and the Black Cats will be expecting to make a significant profit if they are to be persuaded to let him move on and they will not entertain any bids under £10million.
The Mail reports that Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp have both been sufficiently impressed to make tentative enquiries as to how much Sunderland value him at with a view to making a solid bid in the summer.
Arsene Wenger has been tracking the Benin international for many years but there was always the doubt that his lack of height would put him at a disadvantage in the Premiership, but that has obviously been proved terribly wrong and his skill has won him through.
Who thinks that Sessegnon would be a god addition to the Arsenal squad?

Yes I think a swap with Bendtner is the only way I would go. We need bigger players than this if we are to challenge for the top spot next season, although I do think he would be a good squad player. I think that if we are going to buy strikers we need someone a bit younger than Sessegnon.

He was very good last weekend against us, un-playable at times. May be that’s where the renewed interest has come from. l think he would be good signing. But it’s more likely just to be a story to fill in a bit of unused space in the paper

Sessegnon is a tricky guy with strong ball skills and lots of pace. He’s versatile and can play anywhere in the forward line. Some might disagree but I actually think he can be a good winger for Arsenal even though he’ll be great playing behind RVP. Walcott played well against Tottenham but I still believe he’s inconsistent. With Miyaichi and AOC developing, Sessegnon will strenghten the flanks, areas where Arsenal are statistically lacking in converting successful crosses into goals.

Its all about Gourcuff because I can’t see us spending £30m on Gotze and I can’t see him wanting to leave Dortmund especially when they are winning the league, his family are there and Dortmund want to keep him. Gourcuff would be fairly cheap considering his ability and could do with a fresh start. I think Cissokho should be bought and Vertonghen, I don’t see any need for M’vila unless Song leaves. I think after yesterdays game Hazard would want to be a gunner. So thats Cissokho, Vertonghen, Hazard, Gourcuff and depending on RVP, a world class striker to replace him and a back-up/partner if he leaves, and if he stays a young under study.

I still can’t understand why everyone wants gotze. I don’t see any sense in spending excess of 30 m on this young chap with so little experience. I think sessegnon and vertoghen would be quality shinings. So we can still have a measure of experience and strength in the squad.

Sessegnon will be good to add depth to our attacking options, however we should not over look our main summer targets: Goatze, Podolski, Vetongen and Matias Suarez.

He’s good but I think Arsenal need better.
Trade them Bendtner and Denilson straight up. If not I’d rather we go after Eriksen @ Ajax

He is not good enough for Arsenal. Don’t get me wrong he is good, but he’s not a world class player which is what Arsenal need.

A good premiership player but it ends there. If we could get a swap deal involving NB then great but i wouldnt pay over £10m for him.He would be a squad player at best.

Christian Eriksen is the answer to all of our problems. What has been lacking all season that we had yesterday was an enthralling performance from our creative attacking midfielder, and against Spuds Rosicky provided that. Christian Eriksen will bring that every time he steps on the pitch.

A little bit like Gervinho really. Please get us someone different. How about the German Wilshere?

@Klashinkof
That formation is lousy. What! No defensive midfielder?! And you certainly don’t think Wenger will buy both Hazard and Goetze at the same time?!

Arsenal need to get dead weight off the wage bill more than anything else; the team is simply too big. When I think about the team, I have to ask myself what things look like with Wilshire healthy and active.
Obviously, we are all proud of Rosicky and excited he might be up to playing at a higher level, but I don’t have much hope in him being consistent over the next couple years. Also, while everyone loves to dig at Walcott, remember he is very capable of creating chaos for the opposition; Wenger is not likely to be rid of him, and he shouldn’t either. Alex Chamberlain (stop calling him ‘ox’ it sounds stupid and there is nothing about him that is like an ox) is a rising star and a guy everyone wants to see play more. Song might be a liability at times, but he’s earned a first team place.
So, what’s my point?
We don’t need a great deal of acquisitions. Accounting for a healthy Wilshire, I cannot imagine more than three quality signings are needed. 1) high quality stiker (Poldolski is good, but there are other names our there equally as good) 2) a good creator like Hazard, but I’m open to other players too 3)a versatile defender
If we can lose six to seven players who are weighing the club down and sign three high level players such as what I’ve listed, I think we are contenders in whatever competition we choose. We have great youth coming up through the ranks out on loan. We have a couple players with age and experience (and some young players with experience too). We have a world class manager.
We aren’t far off the mark.

No thanks. This is part of the reason why we are in this situation. We are Arsenal. We should only be after world class or young, potential world class players. He is a solid player, but is not Arsenal quality. Just get Hazard in and that’s the solution for the next ten years done. Got Goetze and that’s creative midfield hanlded for the next ten to fifteen years. Podolski is quality, that’s the support striker problem solved for the next five years. Splash out and buy proven, quality players rather then this player. We’ve done too much of it trying to save a dollar and that’s how we’ve ended up with the greatest list of deadwood going around. Get Sahko and/or Vertohgen and we’re set down back for the next ten years along with a decent left back. Gibbs is poor and weak. I’m still unconvinced by Santos’ defensive abilities. Carl is an excellent understudy to Sagna. Wenger has brought in some defensive gems over the years, but he’s also brought in a lot of hacks too. It’s his weak area of recruitment. Titles are won from the back, of that there is no doubt. It needs more attention and invested.
