Arsenal and Walcott’s agent could seal deal today
Representatives of the 23-year old England international, Theo Walcott, will meet with officials from Arsenal today in an attempt to finally agree terms over a new long term contract for the winger who is becoming a striker. It is believed that Arsenal have acceded to his requirements, or at least compromised on their stance enough to persuade the speedy star to sign a new deal.
It would be great for everyone connected with Arsenal if we could finally put all the uncertainty behind us and announce that Walcott will be a Gunner for years to come. That would leave Wenger free to concentrate on bringing in some quality additions to the Arsenal squad during this transfer window.
It will be interesting to see if we are still in the market for Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace, or whether he was being lined up as a possible replacement for Walcott, in case the club could not agree terms with our top scorer for the season so far. Although Wenger does not arrange the contracts personally, he will have had a big say in it, probably telling club officials it is vital not to lose another star player.
“My desire is to extend his contract. He belongs here and hopefully we can do it.”

I’ve heard that if Theo signs, then the Zaha deal will be off.hope not

Good, but I always thought he was better on the wing. I guese we will see where his positiono will be in a couple of months. I want to see us being linked with some defensive mids, and strikers. Im tired of hearing rumours, and hearing wenger saying we are going to buy players and bla bla bla. Just make it happen, enough with the talk, take action. I also seem to notice that whenever were linked with someones, spurs, chelsea and man city are also. I hope when we sign players we will be quiet about them so no1 notices…

I just don’t hope the Zaha deal is off! Theo, if he signs, needs to compete for the wide striker post, and there will be no better than Zaha. If not he will be to perform as he likes, one game good to excellent, another 3 games nowhere to find.

Good thing TW14 is staying, but i will still re-emphasize that it’s not the solution to our current inconsistent performance. We need re enforcement especially in the DMF and Attack. Finally, a play maker is also needed to allow cazorla
play on the wings where he plays his best football.
Opinions divided. What do you think?

Wengers always said Walcott is a greater winger with his pace…
I wouldnt be surpirsed if he’s playing him CF for now just to get him to sign the contract for 4-5 years then stick him back on the wing.
Hopefully not but i wont be surprised if it happens.

Zaha’s deal has nothing to do with Walcott.Walcott is probably ging to play as ST from now on where as we are going to sign Zaha as winger.Zaha is probably the replacement for Arshavin, also read that Gervinho will be sold off in summer if he does not score….err….hit shot on target.

Does it worry anyone that 2 year’s ago Walcott and diaby were constantly mocked and berated by arsenal fans on forum’s etc due to their inconsistency, lack of ability and generally poor performances. Now we’re begging Walcott to sign a new deal and making ridiculous claims like if diaby was fit we’d be pushing for the title. These two players are still incredibly inconsistent, the problem is the the overall quality of the team has dropped so much they look like world beaters. Give it another 2 year’s and we’ll be begging gervinho to sign a new deal and saying Ramsey is our key midfielder and we can’t afford to lose him. Don’t know about you, but that scares the hell out of me!

This is great news (if true) because I have a feeling all other transfer dealings in terms of players coming in have hinged on whether or not Theo signs. Obviously Wenger has designs on him playing up front as per Theo’s wishes. I think Theo & Giroud can form a pretty deadly combo up front but they’ve gotta start getting time together on the pitch consistently.
We desperately need to sing a rock solid DM player like M’Vila who we could get at a great price these days before another teams gets him. We could also do with a solid left wing player like Turan to replace Gervinho (rubbish) and help give Podolski time up front along with Theo and Giroud provided we don’t buy in another striker. But I’d be happy to see Lopez, Llorente, Negredo, etc come in.
We’ve gotta sell Chamakh, Arshavin, Squid, Djourou, etc to clean up the wage bill and have room on the bench. I want great players in that will challenge our current lot for first team playing time!

Terry Norman,
agree with you 100% especially with the way Arsene seems to rely on his attacking force scoring more goals than our defence let in!!
On another point Terry, did you read my comment regarding Lady B.Smith and her shares?
My question was…would she be able to throw some light on this £300million plus loan?
She has obviously got some issues with Kroenke, so I would have thought if anything dodgy had happened then she would broadcast it.
Your thoughts?

Lets not count our chickens just yet. Loss of interest in Zaha does not mean we are resigning Walcott. They are not necessarily linked. Maybe Zaha’s asking price is just too high for what Arsenal are willing to pay. Maybe we are looking at someone else. I do hope we sign Walcott, but until I hear about it on the AFC website, nothing has happened.

If Theo Signs for Arsenal ,its Definitely a good sign . If he leaves , it will be a Bad Example for other Brit Boys. If you ask me if Theo is same level of Henry or Rvp , my answer will be big No.But i am sure he will be way Better Striker than he is at present in 1-2 yrs.
Coming to Yesterday’s Game, it was a Total Disappointment.Arsenal means Creativity . But Yesterday Creativity was Zero and Few Players looked so tired .i have no idea why Wenger is not rotating his squad!! Santi , Sagna , Poldi looked very tired .
Yesterday game clearly showed us , we badly need a Creative winger, LB and CDM . Gibbs Is not Ready . Southampton Attack was not stopped in Midfield which clearly shows we need a CDM. Arteta is NOT a CDM.
I have No idea why Poldi is Playing in the Wing ?? is he played there so he can help Gibbs in Defense!!? He has no pace , cant dribble , cant cross…why is he played in wing but he is 10 times better than Forehead.
I would have Played Rosicky instead of Gervias [ I am going 2 call him Gervinho anymore as its a Insult for Ronaldinho]
Decisions like This Brings Doubt in Wenger. Matches like these Hurts me the most. I really Wonder why small things like this is seen by us and not by Wenger .

Sorry mate I didn’t and I always go back and review older articles and comments for exactly that purpose.
The fact is Ken she wouldn’t know anything, she is totally out of the picture now, but nice thinking.
The only ones that really know whats going on are Gazedis and Kroenke.
And this is the trouble, without such information being made available its human instinct to think something untoward is going on. If they released this information it would shut a lot of people up concerning the loan he took to take control of AFC and who is actually paying it off.

@ken
Mr Kroenke using the revenues generated by AFC to pay his loan off is not illegal. In simple terms its little different to bloke who took a loan out to buy a sweet shop using the proceeds of that shop to repay the loan. It’s his shop so he can do whatever he wants.
Same applies to Mr Kroenke, he owns Arsenal so he can do exactly what he wants. As bad as people may think the Glaziers are at Man U, at least they’re transparent about it. And the same applies to them, it’s their club so they can do what they want and they do. They lumbered all their other debts onto united.
Now whose say Mr Kroenke isn’t going to lumber our club with future loans he takes out for other business purposes. Or he could take out further loans through KSE UK Inc and filter money to pay them off through AFC. Without any transparency we’ll never know. But as I said it’s not illegal, the Glaziers do it, it’s just the fans may take a firmer stance against him and the board.

Good news! I am not theos biggest fan but I do rate him as a forward and believe that despite flaws in his game He has 20 goals a year in him and also he his improving, that much I think even his critics would have to agree.
He is not the most intelligent footballer and I feel that without his speed he would not be a footballer, however all he needs is space to run and a goal to shoot at.. What more do you want from a striker (well, at the moment I would take that, not like we have another van wan*** persie lying about)
I always though our formation did not suit him, we play to close together and do not make enough space for one another… Theo is not that great at taking people on and needs room to run.
However, going back to him improving, he game is just getting better and better… His control, touches of skill here and there…
He has shown enough to make me believe that he will get much better and given the role he wants to play I think he could be getting 20+ goals a year… We need to sign him up.

Thanks Terr, two follow ups then.
Does Kroenke not have to advise all other shareholders what he is doing?
Yes, he owons the club but not outright so would he only be able to use his percentage of shares as a guarantee against any loan?
Lady B.S. was around when Kroenke bought his other shares.
So surely she would have been party to ensuring that the way he obtained them was part of him being “a fit person to run/own a football club”?
By the way, what did you think of Gervinho yesterday?
If anyone needs to go to the African cup its him!!!

@Ken
Mr Kroenke doesn’t have to inform other shareholders. The board make ‘day to day’ decisions and if the shareholders don’t like the way things are going they can vote them off. But no one can out vote Mr Kroenke so he does exactly what he wants. It was in fact Mr Usmanov who first enquired about the status of the loan, he owns nearly 30% of the club, and they wouldn’t tell him squat!
This loan is public information and the propectus states that it is to purchase AFC shares, the price to be paid and from whom. What’s not public is the current status of that loan.
Ken he doesn’t have to use his AFC shares against a loan. He could use KSE Uk Inc, after all they hold his AFC shares, or he could use other personal assets, but its who pays the loan back that matters.

I thought Gervinho was his normal self, but yesterday he was definitely more active. I’ve never seen anyone fall over so many times in such a short period of time. First time in years I can’t wait for the African cup to start.
But it wouldn’t be fair to place all the blame on him. That has got to be the worst game I’ve ever seen Sagna play. I personally thought the whole team was inept and I think they seriously underestimated Southampton. A lot of guys own here did, they were talking anything from 3 1 to 6 0, that was never going to,happen. I had it down as a score draw 2 2, they were never going to roll over like Newcastle.

i know I’m gonna probably get quite a few dislikes for this but In my opinion bacary sagna is not the same player he was last season and the seasons before. he has seemed to have lost his offensive prowess and in recent matches, (NUFC and southampton) his defending has been inexcusable. Maybe this is just bad form, however i believe that if he does not get his act together, Jenko shut take his spot. I Believe sagna has to prove himself and establish himself again before we give him his bumper salary, because if he thinks that he is vital to the club, he isn’t anymore in my opinion, Jenkinson has come a long way and i believe he has the potential and hunger to be a far superior rb than sagna

Jenkinson was an inspired buy, really was. I think regardless of Sagna Carl will take that spot soon.
Two leg breaks in a year or so is just too much… Sagna has come back looking good considering but he is not the same player.
However, much could be said of Verma… Both players look like they cannot believe the club keep selling players and are not sure if they want to stay.

Terry,
thanks mate…I will mull it over in my head, but I must admit it does make one feel a little “twitchy”.
I just didn’t realise the power he has and I suppose the only other scenario is that, if Usmanov got control, we would be in the same position!!!
I just cannot understand Lady BC’s decision to sell, thus giving a man she surely does not like, control of our club!
At least Arsene didnt hide his feelings for the changing room after that display, we were awful and he admitted it.
However, credit should be given to southampton as well…speak again for certain.

I think it would be different under Usmanov for a number of reasons
1. He actually takes an interest in the team, he goes to matches.
2. Usmanov is worth over 18 billion as opposed to Kroenke just over 3 billion.
3. Usmanov made his own money, rumour has it Kroenke’s money comes from his wife.
4. He has stated publically he wants to invest in the team and scrap the archaic wage structure.
5. He wants to scrap the “self sufficient model”.
And there’s probably more if I thought about it longer.
The lady showed her true colours mate when serious money was put on the table, money talks!

The most powerful person that controls this team is the supporters. We just need to realise this if we want Gazidis and Kroenke to leave we need to hit them where it hurts. Trust me, as soon as they stop making money they will sell their shares. So what are we going to do gunners? I do realise the financial implication but that can be recovered with people who understand soccer and that’s exactly what we want.

I said within another article on here, it’s only when the fans are 100% together there is a CHANCE of changing things. Although I accept there are many Gooner’s who want to carry on as we are.
But although we might argue on sites like this about the Arse, we still all go and buy merchandise etc. Thats what people like Kroenke rely on, thats that’s why it’s almost impossible to change anything but that doesn’t mean you should stop trying.

I agree with both of you regarding the fans being the most powerful. This is the problem we aren’ making enough of an uproar! Why would Kroenke care if we are all bitching about him and wishing him out on a mere internet site? We need to grab attention, we need it to be known how furious we are but I know it is simple for the board to ignore us. But will they ignore not going to matches? Will they even ignore protests? We should be marching more! Even banners and chants, we all know that for the good of our beloved Arsenal Kroenke must go – I know we’re in minor ‘debt’ atm with stadium loans but he is just robbing us blind and doesn’t give a shit about OUR club.
We must regain control, we must make ourselves heard!! COYG!!!!

Very good points made from everyone above!
The bottom line is we have an owner who doesn’t have to answer to anyone and doesn’t like watching Arsenal either and doesn’t really care aslong as the club keeps making profits every season he would happily go another 20 years with no success on the pitch.
Football is a business its not like the old days when a local rich guy who loves the club fancies putting a bit off money in.
There is only 1 way off kronkes reign ending and that is our beloved Arsenal falling back wards along with his profit there’s no way he’s going to sell!!
Unless a truly astronimcal bid for the club came in and even then probably not!!
I hope Arsene walks before it gets embarrassing for him in the next few seasons,
He will always be the greatest manager we ever had.

This is good news in many ways. First it will make the new players more confident and settled. Second, it will prove the doomsayers wrong. Third we shall not be having any top star that will be uncertain of his future. This is good for the overall stability of the team. Most important the manager will devote any his time to reorganising his team instead of thinking about Walcott’s contract. Like I said elsewhere this situation of stability is going to benefit the team greatly. I am no prophet but I can envisage next season being a very interesting one for Arsenal. Why am I so confident? Imagine that Santi Cazorla, Podolski, Giroud and any other January recruit will now have fully been integrated into the team and got acclimatised to EPL. Remember these are quality players inspite of what some emotional and malevolent characters might say about them. If they can perform this well now in their first season how much more will they be next season? Only time will tell but the future is very bright for Arsenal! Those who are yearning for cups will start smiling again next seasoon. This eason has been one of building and I honestly don’t hope for much.

We’re all on the same page and this is why I love debating on sites such as this. Besides talking football, I see it as for the long term benefit of Arsenal, so I don’t mind putting in both the time and effort. But against us we have a well oiled spin machine headed up by “Ivan the terrible”.
It’s an unfortunate fact that to many Gooner s
1. actually believe Kroenke, Gazedis etc are acting for the good of the club, rather than their self interest.
2. Are prepared to let the other bloke protest rather than get involved.
3. Will not do boycott games, merchandising etc as they see it as being disloyal to the Arse.
The last time I heard Usmanov wouldn’t pay more than £14,000 a share. Today they sit at over £17,000 a share. I’ve said this before, guys like Kroenke don’t ‘cash in’ unless they need money for another venture. Tell me where you can get a risk/return profile on your investment like AFC?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don’t think Theo will make a good cf. Good cfs sometimes have to drop deep to help out. All Theo has done in his games as a cf is stand next to the opposition’s cbs, not contributing to play and hoping a magic through ball will be played. If he wants to become a good cf, let him look at videos of TH14, (RVP, hate to add him),Messi and other good cf, they contribute and can sometimes be seen in defensive positions. Theo has done none of that. His positional sense is terrible. I think he has also developed an attitude problem that may affect the rest of the team. There are times when he should pass and he shoots. Unfortunately he already thinks he is better than he is….believing his own hype because he is able to hold the club to ransom. Even when Giroud came on and he was asked to play on the right, he hardly tracked back.
Believe me, this situation with Theo is going to cause a massive rift in the team.

@Graham makes some goods points about Theo and although I’m glad he signed I too have some reservations.
Not sure how this proves the “doomsayers” wrong about anything, did you not watch the arse yesterday with Theo upfront, has the “self sufficient model” been binned, have experienced top quality players been signed?
I’m with you 100% on Wenger should concentrate on the team, but he does more than contracts he basically runs the whole club. To me he would be better advised concentrating on where he made his name ie football management!
You mention Carzola, Podolski and Giroud as quality players. Carzola yes, Podolski is only a 70 min player and Giroud is more often than not a sub. Quality players like Carzola force themselves into the team and are very rarely subbed. So I don’t share your view here and I definitely don’t share your view concerning how well they have performed, bar Santi. Again, did you watch them yesterday, at Norwich, against Swansea, against villa etc.
Tell you what, if you really believe we will win silverware next year, get down the bookies now and get a bet on. I’d be interested to know exactly what silverware you think we have the best chance of winning.

On Walcott I said in a previous statement on an earlier thread that I remember a certain Michael Owen incredibly similar attributes to Walcott in physique as well, winning European player off the year.
He excelled with 3 attributes
1. Pace
2. Intelligent movement of the last defender
3. He could finish incredibly well especially one on ones.
He didn’t have much else to his game.
So there’s no reason stopping Walcott from being that good as well.
Only 1 thing the fact we only play 1 up top and Owen always had a strike partner.
Our formation doesn’t suit Theo unless he plays wide right.
Anyway we should be more positive against weaker opposition and give him Giroud to take the brunt off the bullying Centre halves off his hands, old fashioned it may be, but devastating against the poorer sides it is.
