Arsenal Are Making Progress On And Off The Field According To Gazidis
Ivan Gazidis has been speaking about the clubs financial situation and maintains that the club is making good progress, and the priority will always be success on the field.
There were some interesting figures revealed today and while a profit was made again, figures were down on previous years. A £15million profit was recorded for the financial year ending in May, but turnover was down by £125million on last year.
Gazidis said yesterday, “Our primary objective, as we take the club forward, will always be success on the field.”
Well I think the majority of fans will disagree with you there Mr Gazidis I’m afraid. You cannot keep selling your best players and expect to achieve great football results on the field can you.
He went on to say, “To give the club the best opportunity to achieve this, we must drive a virtuous circle of increased revenue, increased investment in the team and a larger engaged fan base and we must do this in a way which is self-sustaining and protects the long-term future of the club. Our goals for the organisation are clear and unchanged: to support and fund on-field success; and to enhance the fan experience.”
Yes we have a great stadium and for anyone that has been to the Emirates it is a great place to watch football, but that alone does not bring success.
He finished by saying, “We are making progress on all fronts and the club starts its 125th year in a strong position.”
Another profit is bound to be shown next year after the sale of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri for large sums of money, but turnover will go down again surely. If fans do not see serious investment on the playing side they will not spend money in the club shops. It is not rocket science is it. If you have a happy and successful club supporters spend more. If results are poor on the field attendances go down so therefore people spend less.
At the end of the day Mr Gazidis isn’t it us the supporters of this great club that generate a significant amount of income? So come on reinvest in some big name signings in January please.

Look, AFC just need Fanni to get through this bumpy patch… Love wouldn’t be bad, though with so many options it may complicate things a little… so, i just really think Fanni would be far better for AFC at this moment!!

People just dont seem to get it. we did reinvest and in doing so will have increased our wage bill yet again. arteta mertesacker park santos benayoun gervinho chamberlain campbell etc. do you think these players were.free? do you think they are playing for nothing? sure we lost fabregas and nasri but if you think nasri is a bigger name than mertesacker then you are mistaken. mertesacker has been a german international for many years and has racked up 75 caps whereas nasri could not even force his way into the last world cup squad. when puah comes to shove nasri will not be in man citys first x1. we are unbeaten in our last 3 and have the most clean aheets in the ptemiership. debt is well under control and unlike other clubs we are making a profit albeit a small one. no trophies ate won until february at the earliest so stop whingeing qe cannot sign anymore players until we shift some more anyway hopefully in january.
Opinions divided. What do you think?

I have had enough of the idiot Gazidis.
You see, because I don’t believe in coincidence It’s crystal clear that he is making sure all our top players go to the team he supports, Man City.
What the hell was going through the minds of our board when they bought him in?
We need him out of Arsenal FC and the sooner the better.

We are on the up, our finances are in good shape, they will get even better once we can have some decent new commercial deals in 2014 – the gap is 60 MPnds/year vs Man Utd, if we can close it by 40 then that equals one major signing per year including wages. Feel sorry for Spurs (I don’t really), but they have 10 years ahead of them to try and get to their new stadium – Arsenal have done it now, the hardest work is done – Spurs I will predict will go bust doing it – they haven’t got the property spin-offs that we have had to help finance it. Spurs are competing today on the field, but it is not going to last much longer.
I like Van Persie very much as a player and a person, but if it is time to cash in on him as well and bring in more younger replacements then it should not be a concern.
Success is on its way – we will be Premier league champions again – it will not be immediately, but it will not be so long either. The best days are ahead, and when we win we will be in a lot stronger position to maintain it than between 1998-2005.
I can’t say we have the most charismatic board with Kroenke, Gazidis, Hill-Wood, … Kroenke may not say much, but his words supporting Arsene were perfect this week. If you forget Gazidis’ face and look behind what he says he is also exactly right. Would I want to swap these guys for what Chelsea/Man City/Man Utd have then sorry, but no way. The values behind Arsenal are the right ones, and they have and will bring success. Birmingham have their trophy – I guess if they could sell it now they would.
Am I frustrated that we don’t have more recent trophies to show – yes – but I can also remember some pretty dark days in the 70′s and 80′s where we were not competing for anything for long periods. The last 6 years have been an absolute dream in comparison.
So let’s start giving Arsene, the club, the players the support they deserve. We felt the stress as supporters this last summer, so imagine the effect on Arsene – he may not have got everything right over the last few years, but I have no doubt he has given more than any of us to the club and the team.

What has to be also realised is that we have £150mil in “operating cash” in the bank. And it’s been made clear that AW has money to spend on players. We are not in debt, have a great stadium, and are positioned well for the future. While other top side now have to face how to maintain and pay off their debts (mostly as a result of big overspending on players), we can use the money we actually have to move things forward. No I don’t like Gazidis, but the strategy is actually a sound one. Keep you affairs in order, and build from strength.
When you look at what’s been happening off the pitch at AFC, things start to make sense in the light of our financial position. All those who criticise the strategy are not business people. I would suggest those having a go at decisions made by those running AFC are not schooled in big business. Someone prove me wrong. Tell me you own a £ billion company, or at least a business that turns over £125mil. ….. Please! So in light of that, maybe put a little trust in what’s happening behind the scenes. It’s in no ones interest to weaken AFC – on or off the pitch. Just a thought.
Gunner forever!

I am a fanatic buyer and seller on eBay yet I don’t put all my trust non eBay. I ran my auto scan and wow between eBay, Amazon, eBayer and the rest of the competition I get the same product cheaper. This is business sense. I have long stopped buying with credit card because I pay more. Ask Manchester United. I use to depend on the wealth of my dad but he rejected me as he wanted me to grow up and when he did I began to learn life in a hard way. Soon Manchester City will learn in a hard way.
First AFC is a business then a club. It will stop being a club the day it stops doing credible business. It is the future of British football in a long term. We are focusing on now and forget to see the fact that we are the only club in top 4 that spends less. Liverpool that spends more did not end 4th. The consistency of the last 14 Champion League is a clue to how good our position is. The press is scared, they know what our future holds but some of our negative fans are so blind. They allow the press to dictate.
The first foreign coach to win the EPL do you research was Arsenie. The first foreign coach to buy the EPL was Morino. So why are we against a man that brought Fabregas for nothing and turned him into a super start. Please don’t feed me when am hungry but teach me to make food. If we are so foolish to sack Arsenie, I bet you he won’t last a second to get a job with a salary that is ten times what we pay him. Until you lose your diamond you have no idea how valuable it is. I read some inspiring article here today and decides to give in my contribution. Arsenal Football Club is indeed the future of football in the UK. Watch us!!

African fan – the reason clubs end up with trophies is because the people behind the scenes care about “financial nonsense”! If they didn’t, you can rest assured … NO TROPHIES! And furthermore – no club. Be grateful some people care about keeping AFC’s finances strong, otherwise we would go the way of Leeds, West Ham, and Nottingham Forrest.

Flavour – good solid argument. It’s ludicrous to simply go into debt buying players that really, in the end, does NOT guarantee trophies. (I really hope City fail this season). Good business is good for everyone – owner, club and fans.
For all those saying Kronke and Gazidis are there just to line their pockets – I can’t understand this argument. (now not agreeing with their strategy I think is valid). Why would anyone trying to make money go with the model AFC has taken? Surely if you wanted to make quick money you would: buy a club, import the best players (at any cost), win some quick trophies, and sell the club for a profit. (turn around time 3-5years). That’s how you make quick money in property – buy, improve the property superficially to inflate it’s value, quickly sell it on. AFC seems to have a more long term plan – which is how you make serious money in business: A solid plan, long term thinking and commitment, and (here’s the kicker) decisions based on how to keep making money overtime, not an immediate quick buck. This is how we seem to be doing things. And, when other clubs will be left with big debts and huge player wages to finance …. Probably by borrowing, therefore increasing debt (or reducing revenue, if you want to look at it like that), AFC will be able to play and win from a strong financial position.
Let’s face it (and Gazidis also said this), we are making a profit. We haven’t even yet gone threat of true commercial targets – which as I understood it, means we will now be targeting big companies for big sponsorship deals. This is what all the top clubs do at the moment (take City for example. £400mil from Etihad). The difference is, other clubs have huge debt. So these big deals, are there to just keep the banks away. We have (virtually) no debt, so whatever deals we manage to secure will only go to strengthening our position. This means that our future is strong. So maybe a little short term pain is good for long term success.
(ps. For the record I actually don’t like Gazidis. Bring back Dein)
