Arsenal are more likely to buy Gotze than Hazard in January
The back pages of the newspapers write about it, every football website worth its salt writes about it and every Arsenal fan knows about it. Arsene Wenger is looking at the two players who can make the difference with this Arsenal side – Mario Gotze and Eden Hazard.
Some Arsenal fans think that both of these players will come to the club in the next transfer window, but rationally speaking that is not possible. Mario Gotze is quite simply Borussia Dortmund’s best player and Hazard is Lille’s talisman. The transfer fee for just one of the players could easily be above 30 million pounds – breaking the record transfer fee by Arsenal – and it is unlikely that Wenger will break his bank and his philosophy to sign both of these players. The wage demand is another hindering factor as well, but that is another story.
There is no real need for both the players to come together to join Arsenal. With Jack Wilshere stipulated to return at the end of January and Diaby recently coming back into the side, it would be unwise to splash the cash on two players who could possibly play the role that Ramsey plays at present. It has to be remembered that Rosicky and Benayoun, too, will still be in contention!
With that, it looks inevitable that Wenger will only be able to afford one of the two talented midfielders. Between the two of them, Gotze plays a more attacking role for his side while Hazard sits a little deeper but provides great stability for the midfield. Arsenal’s formation already revolves around having Alex Song controlling the defensive side of the midfield and Arteta grounding the play, so in the tactical sense Gotze would be a better option for Arsenal.
It is more likely for Gotze to join Arsenal than Hazard. The poor relationship between Lille and Arsenal first over Gervinho and then Park Chu-Young would have made Hazard’s potential transfer a tricky one. There is no guarantee as well, that Lille would want to lose another key player after losing Gervinho at the start of the season.
As such, the odds look favoured towards the German signing a deal with the gunners. The move is definitely a long way off, but there is little doubt that he would add the “creative spark” that Arsenal fans always speak off that is lacking in midfield.

A striker is needed more than either of those two. Cacau is my number one choice then Sow and Podolski. Wenger could sign Tiffert if more creativity is needed but I would welcome Hazard or Gotze.

I think we are getting ahead of ourselves In all honesty. Wenger never spends and we will Probably get Outbid by someone. Just the though of song wilshere and goetze in midfield is breathtaking but it’ll probably never happen. Sorry but this happens every transfer window and I’m fed up!

If the funds are there, it is imperative, IMO, that new blood is brought in during January. After an horrendous start to the season, there has been a phoenix-like recovery. The subsequent momentum simply must’nt be lost. The needed players in midfield AND in attack appear to be available and negotiations should have already started behind the scenes.

It’ll be a big tactical headache for Wenger, deciding who plays between Goetze, Wilshere and Arteta. I’d say, Wenger should decide b/w Wilshere and Goetze. I’ll certainly keep Arteta in the starting 11 as he gives us so much defensively.

Tbh I don’t really want any of them, we’ve got a midfield for the future in Ramsey, Wilshere and Frimpong; also singing Goetze would make life a whole lot harder for Wenger as he would have to choose between 4 talented midfielders, if anything I would rather him bring in a striker and a defender; Benzema and Cahill.

Of the 4 players mentioned one diaby is always injured rosicky and benayoun will be out of contract at the end of the season and jw is 19 and returning from a serious injury. i think if we signed hazard it is more likely he would replace arshavin. whist gotze is more likely to replace rosicky.

@ Arsenal Man. I agree. We already have talent in the midfield…sure Gotze is probably better than Arteta and Ramsey, but is he worth spending 30m on when we are in need more of a striker and defender?
If Wenger will make a signing, he needs to get a striker. Currently in the midfield we have Ramsey (solid midfielder, bit clumsy at times but he does the job), Arteta ( experience and a Xavi like passing machine, has one hell of a shot on goal), Wilshere (our best midfielder next to Song), Song (best DM in the country), Frimpong and Coquelin (our next two up and coming midfielders), Benayoun, Rosicky, Diaby…that is a whopping 9 midfielders. If Wenger is seriously considering signing Gotze, he needs to get rid of at least 2 or 3 of them. Why? Gotze will require a heavy pay packet too, not just the initial signing fee. So selling some of our deadwood midfield players would allow for a player like Gotze to join and stay. If that’s the case, I think Rosicky, Diaby, Denilson should go. Then we can still have a better rotation in the midfield in case Jack, Song, or any of them gets injured.
It all depends on the board and how stingy they want to be this time around. If it was up to me, I would sell Squillaci, Djoure, Rosicky, Diaby, Denilson, Eastmond, Arshavin. With that profit we can easily acquire Gotze, Podolski/Sow and perhaps Baines/Vertonghen.
We will see. I’m sure whatever they decide will work. I think Wenger is playing it wise to say he isn’t looking at anyone at the moment, because if he did, and nothing materializes, we would all be saying what liar, lack of ambition etc. So let’s just trust him and support our team whatever happens.

hazard coming to arsenal with dat hefty price tag is next to impossible.goetze earlier (if true) has mentioned wants to play for either arsenal or barcelona….the latter not possible bcoz goetze will not break thru the squad less playin time.
goetze it is for arsenal for around 25m ….. may be a torje/ayew.
also arsenal have the rvp contract in mind dey may need a top class striker at end of season!!!!

i don’t really want to be the pesimist here but i strongly don’t think either of these two amazing starlets will be joining The Arsenal this season. They’re both brilliant but I agree that Gotze is our man. Don’t be a sissy about spending big Wenger!!

Arsenal has got more midfielders than we can possbly play presently..mostly with our wonderkid(wilshere). we just need a good replacement 4 RVP n a solid centre. then we a worthy opponent against any team…

I have to say that the thought of Mario Gotze in an Arsenal shirt just makes me smile but doubt if AW will push hard for him. We already have an oversupply of attacking midfilders and if we are to bring in Gotze we will have to sell players. My view is that we need to reinforce our goal scoring options. If Gervinho and Theo could get more goals that would take the pressure off RVP but we still need another striker.

if park gets games and shine we don’t need a new striker
if wilshere comes back from midfield we don’t need a new creative midfielder.
remember chamberlain can also play in that role but i dont mind new addition, if anything i suspect arsene will find a cheap one from outside europe.
don’t forget we also have ,miyaichi, afobe,ozyakup,aneke and possibly campbell for next summer. if we buy big we gonna have to get rid of some youth something arsene will never do.
a new signing will need time to settle in the premiership its the same as fast-tracking our top kids for first team

It is not imperative we sign another midfielder, however I would love to see gotze sign for us. Gotze can also play on the wing, which would hopefully push gervinho harder as he is not facing much competition for a first team place at the moment, with arshavin out of form.
I would:
Buy Gotze – Sell Arshavin
Buy a striker (Moussa Sow/Fernando Llorente/Karim Benzema/Loan Thierry Henry) in case RVP gets injured.
Sell Chamakh

Some of you guys are getting very excited over nothing with all these new players linked to Arsenal. You all want to build your own dream team. Anyway, as for the article….
Hazard is more of a winger and Chamberlain’s maturity and skill may have changed his mind on Hazard. Buying Goetze as a central creative mid-fielder would be most likely but he probably wanted to see how Ramsey performs this season before buying.
A striker is most likely, however with the EURO’s coming up he may be keen to secure Goetze before the tournament. Most European clubs will not sell in Jan. for this same reason… so be prepared for a quiet Jan 2012.

Firts and for most i dont know why everyone is still asking for a defender. Let alone gary cahill? He is english so its clear why ppl seem to think hes a top qaulity player, but to me hes extremley over priced and ovver rated. the 4 cbs we have are doing well. Especially koscielny. As for signing attackers. I think it is quite important that we make the right purchases to ensure rvp stays and retires a gooner. This year will be difficult to obtain a trophy. But if we show we want to be serious next season then a striker whos good on the ball like rvp and can make assist as well as score is needed to give rvp a rest, and an attackin midfielder to provide the creative spark will make us formidable. These 2 signings along with the emergence of coquelin,afobe aoc, and frimmy. Gaurantees a trophy

I believe Gotze is the more realistic signing than Hazard. The fee for Hazard would definitely be over 30M and Real Madrid are all over him.
I see Gotze signing as a possibility with a fee around 20M-25M plus either Rosicky or Ashavin exchange. Its all up to Dortmund, they may elect for 30M upfront…

You want a shopping list? Vertonghen, Alex Pato, and Hazard. Hazard is the best prospect in the world right now. He is the best midfielder in the world. Arteta is getting out for Wilshere, when song goes then Wilshere can play defensive and Ramsey playing the box-to-box, he has a shot and mega passing range. If hazard slots in infront of them, we will be unstoppable. Rosicky, Arshavin, Squillaci, Diaby, Almunia and Fabianski have all served their purpose but its time they left and get awesome replacements

Whatever the scenario or position we are in at the end of December, Wenger MUST buy player in JAnuary transfer window. Pls dont be stubborn or hesitant on the player we really need especially in striking department. Defence look solid enough midfield area look like we can cope just untill end of season. Crucial part is attacking department. Over realiable on RVP will bite AFC back if we dont learn from history. It’s almost half season already and other half of torrid and gruelling challenge await us come January till end of season.

I think arshavin, chamakh have to go for sure as arshavin hasnt played well in over a seasOn and chamakh started off well but when RvP came back from injury he couldnt get a game because he was such form. Bendtner has to go as we could get upto 10mill for him and he doesnt want to come back. The same could be on the cards for vela although i dont think he was ever given a huge chance. Rosicky has been a good servant for us over the years but hes not getting any younger i dont no if he’d get a game. So if we sold arshavin, chamakh, bendtner, rosicky, squillaci then we’d be surely adding around 30million to our budget on top of the posslble 40-50mill wenger has got laying around. So gotze would be a must (probably 35mill) aswell as podolski (15-20mill) as back up for RvP but could also play alongside him upfront or on the wing. Then also Xherdan Shaqiri from Basel who has a clause of less than 15 mill but im pretty sure that that price will increase due to the interest in him and his incredible ability. Im dribbling at a prospect of song, wilshere, gotze in midfield! Shaqiri, gotze and podolski would be incredible as signing and could be about 65million. Now thats a lot of money but we’d be making a fair bit by selling players so more like 35mill. Which suddenly seems reasonable! I’d also personally like to see Jordi Alba from Valencia come to the emirates as i think hes great! (but thats just me)
