Arsenal back in for Gary Cahill after constant defensive injuries?
According to todays Metro Arsenal have rejoined the race to sign Gary Cahill after suffering yet another defensive injury against Manchester City yesterday.
Johann Djourou will be out for at least three weeks, and he joins the other full-backs Bacary Sagna and Andre Santos on the treatment table, with Santos expected to be unavailable for at least three months, while Sagna should be back in the next few weeks, along with Carl Jenkinson.
Kieran Gibbs is due to return after two months out with a hernia but with his injury record it is hard to believe he will be available for long when he does finally return, and Wenger has already admitted he may have to buy another defender in January.
It was confirmed that the Gunners had made an official bid for Cahill in the summer (even if it was ‘derisory’) and the Bolton boss Owen Coyle admitted last month that Cahill was expected to be sold in January when he said: “I would love to work with Gary Cahill every day of the week for as long as I could, because he’s a top player and a fantastic young man. Sometimes things are taken out of your grasp. I’ll wait and see what January brings.”
Who thinks Wenger should still get him in after the arrival of Per Mertesacker?

Great idea, he’s quick and has a great turn of pace something mertesacker doesn’t, prem experience and also a big lad no nonsense defender. One of the main things which is letting us down is squad depth and adding and strengthening all departments is something we should be doing and getting rid of dead wood like squallachi, djourou, arshavin, bendtner.

Now he wants to buy him? He missed his chance in August, with only Spurs vying for his signature. Now he will have to also compete with Chelsea & Man City. Cahill will go cheap now, close to the price Wenger was offering in the summer, but lets be honest, there will be a bidding war between Chelsea & Man C and whoever offers Cahill the biggest salary will win. It will be a battle of the billionaires. Sorry Arsene, you missed your chance.. Go for Samba instead.

this whole saga shows wenger in all his dithering cock-up glory. As the previous respondees have said wenger missed his chance because he wouldnt pay the price. He wont buy him, he will bottle out as soon as chelsea or city show a firm interest. Fergie would have got his man in a week, paid the money and no quibble. We will limp on with a shaky defense, and as lee dixon said mertesacker isnt the answer. When we miss fourth spot, perhaps wenger will at last understand that “investment” in quality players will reap the reward……champs league makes 20-30 million.

i don’t rate cahill at all! ive watched him plenty of seasons now and in the last few months he has been a influential part in Bolton terrible start defensively.. don’t get me wrong he is better than djourou but he certainly wont improve our back line! give young miquel a chance! GTID

Who said cahil is the only defender that can come 2 arsenal? Don’t get me wrong but i knw he is gud but have we forgoten wenger is a man who turns raw talent in to real footballers am talking vermalen, koscienly, rvp, song, nasri…am sure thr is a perfect signing out there that AW will bring 2 add quality to the defence and it won’t necesarily be a cahil who is getting more mouth than he really is

Cahill is a good centre half but is he better than tv5 , mert or a growing koscielny I’m not sure Bolton r getting spanked every week . I would love to see vertongen at arsenal as the player is class but deep down I know I will read gossip about arsenal signing a quality , top draw player but then i will see the same guy sign for another shit club ie chelski , man shitty . @steve totally agree with you, we need full backs not another dodgy centre back. Anyone notice that Bolton are bottom of league and Cahill getting very bad ratings in press. It will be weeks before any of our injured defenders are back and now Song is banned for Villa game. The spuds chavs game could decide if we reach top four or not.

Even with the defensive crises we have had I wouldn’t buy Cahill. I think our defense even with the injury long list is holding up gracefully. Man City did not run us around at all. Mind u we have Sagna coming soon, Jen not too far off, Gibbs may be also nearing comeback. If we have one right back fit, we have enough CB to rotate, Miguel has done well covering the left back but the guy is a CB so he will do better in the middle. City won the midfield play. I remember telling my mate I have not watched an Arsenal game where our keeper had to shoot so many long crosses as well as the players shooting long balls from the back. So we can manage till our full backs come back but we need Jack to come soon and we need to buy a good playmaker and a striker. If we are getting a defender I would wish for Vertonghen. Sagna hardly get insured when fit, Santos can play in the Mid if necessary so I would buy a versatile defender like Vertonghen, a creative Midfielder and a striker and we are set.

What we need for sure and most importantly is another striker. If we had Podolski in the game vs City as well as RVP, I’m sure that result would’ve been different. Man city had Balotelli and Aguero causing slow moving Mertesacker all sorts of problems. Of course a full back is also needed cos after Djorou’s dismall showing that option can’t be taken off the table.

We don’t need him, we have plenty of CBs in the squad. Cahill is not better than koscielny and you can’t compare with mertesacker beacause they have different styles. Even Miquel is great. Just get in loan a fullback.

Arsenal don’t have any depth in our squad the two CB that’s playing are the best we have now. What will happen when they get injured then we will have to put in average guys. To be honest wenger a stupid coach we could have signed cahill in august but he thinks every player is a average one. We can forget it we won’t get cahill. CITY, MAN U or CHElSEA will get him!
