Arsenal can get Zaha on the cheap from Palace- Just £11m

Posted on October 13, 2012 by Bob

I know there is alot of money in football these days, but if £11 million is now cheap for a 19-year old winger from the Championship then things have really got out of hand. Arsenal are reported to be keen on Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace, possibly as a replacement for Theo Walcott if he leaves, and that is the price that has been quoted.

The Palace manager, Dougie Freedman, has told the press that any team that did pay that price for the England under-21 international would have done a very good deal.

“I know he is worth more than £11 million. You are getting him cheap if you get him for that.

“It’s a matter of time until he plays in the Premier league.

“As we speak right now he’s on a long contract and he’s very happy.”

The young player is undoubtedly talented and has drawn interest from Liverpool and Manchester United besides the Gunners. He has scored four goals in ten league games this season from the wing. He has also been used to some success as a central striker, a la Wenger.

What I wonder is, if Theo Walcott wants £25,000 per week more than we have offered, wouldn’t it be better to spend a fraction of the £11 million and give him what he wants?

It would be the principle I guess. Once we break the wage structure for one person, everyone will want to do it

It would be unfair to pay him a 100K and pay other of his collegues less when they are more consistent than him. Again, to assume the 11M to be invested in Zaha, can be utilized to increase Theo’s salary, is also to assume he will be sold at zero value. I think a better way is looking at Theo being sold at 15M and being replaced by Zaha at 50K per month or less, and the difference between the two transaction becoming Zaha wage for the next four year.

Bob your forgetting about the fee that we could recieve from the Walcott sale, wich could be about eleven mil, something tells me that the more Arsene is connected, the more Freedman is over valuing the player.

Huntelaar is 29. Fair enough he might go cheap but his wages will be high. It’ll be cheaper for Arsenal to keep Walcott than invest in a player reaching 30.

Zaha is hot property and we might be priced out of this one, unless he prefers Arsenal by choice. I wouldn’t completely eliminate Arsenal out of the equation though. My intuition tells me that Walcott will stay. If this is the case, one player I’d really like to see come to Arsenal is to replace Arshavin is Isco. He would be sensational with Cazorla and can play anywhere in midfield or the flanks. Throw Wilshere in the mix as well and our midfield has various players that can share roles.

no arsenal have too many young prospects to waste 11 million on another if wenger is going to spend it, for me, it should only be on defensive midfielder, a left back, or striker, but only if theo leaves for once i think the team and team chemistry is really at an all time high and going on a spending spree might disrupt that
