Arsenal chase another right-back, Hoffenheim’s captain Beck
Having already signed three national captains over the summer, it appears that Arsène Wenger wants another excellent leader at the Emirates, with Hoffenheim skipper Andreas Beck seemingly next on the Arsenal transfer target list.
Despite the arrival of Carl Jenkinson, Wenger is reportedly planning a swoop on the player – which could be of up to £11 million – to increase the options at full-back. Beck plays as a right-back for Hoffenheim and shares similar traits with the aforementioned Gunners signing, with pace, stamina and accurate crossing being part of his improving game.
As well as his attacking ability, the 24 year-old’s defensive talents haven’t gone unnoticed either, with a proposed move to Juventus earlier this year eventually breaking down. On top of this, the Russian-born defender has been called-up to the senior Germany squad, playing in nine full internationals so far since 2009.
Beck signed a two year contract extension with Hoffenheim last month but with Hoffenheim currently lurking mid-table in ninth position, his team certainly aren’t expected to reach any higher than the Europa League places. Therefore, a move to a club with a flawless string of qualifications in the past fourteen years does indeed look tempting for any player, let alone one that is nearing his prime and desperately needs to prove himself before the Euro 2012 tournament in June.
Is a third right-back – or fourth, if one was to include Johan Djourou in that category – the kind of player that needs to be added to the squad? As well as being a fairly similar player to Carl Jenkinson – albeit a more experienced one – is it not the left-back position that needs strengthening more?

I would think a left back is needed more at the Emirates than a RB, but it makes me happier when I hear of news linking this great club with strikers. That is what we need most.

Left back position needs strengthening? Really? With Santos, Gibbs and Vermaelen? And a player that is captain of his club doesn’t necessary have leading qualities (just remember Gallas or maybe even Cesc). And yes, of course Beck would be good now that Baky is injured. What do you see in Jenkinson. He is nowhere near good enough at the moment.

i don’t see any strong proof on this rumours..wenger never gonna kill jenkinson..with sagna injury, koscielny would be a good replacement..while we waiting on sagna to recovery back..despite jenkinson already show some improvement on his performence..just need more times and games..

He wouldn’t kill Jenkinson, the contrary would be true. J is very young, now that sagna is hurt, we can’t yer rely on J for each and every match, Djourou is not really an option there if we want to be top. German players have a good mentality usually, llok at Mert influence once he came in. It didn’t take him long b4 he brought back confidence and calm in the back. Another German in the back would be good for Mert, with his poor English he could have a chat from to time at least, will make him happy

Beck is a talented right back about to hit his prime and seeing more and more caps for Germany. Arsene should go for him, jenkison still needs time to hit his full potential and I wouldn’t even mind seeing him out on loan next season as Sagna will be back. Santos and Gibbs splitting time at LB works for me. Santos is first choice LB for Brasilia for a reason. I don’t want to hear h cN’t play a “British LB” f*Ck that, let him get his stamina back and adjust to his more defensive positioning and he will be a rock at the back with his assist game will be dope. Up gunners

You can see why this might be plausible. You have Sagna who is injured but will return to first team football for sure, you have his apprentice Jenkinson who is good, but not quite ready and against expearienced players, they run rings around him forcing Theo back to defend for large portions of the game.
Having a versatile RB/CB means that if Sagna remains out, it would give Jenkinson less pressure to start big games. It also means if (when) Gibbs gets injured we can shift TV to left back then Kol/Beck/Mert in the centre. It makes sense. 11mil though? Don’t think so.

Or perhaps Sagna is about to LEAVE…hasnt he dropped in performance? isnt he getting old..? Perhaps he is about to get SOLD…Jenkinson is YOUNG and not far from GREAT..Arsenal should keep him

11 million for Beck.
It’s bullshit. He signed new contract with Hoffenheim this Year. He is not better than Jenkinson. But Jenskinson is only 19.
Please sign Goetze, Hummels, Reus or Papis Cisse.

There’s Sagna, Jenkinson and Hoyte as genuine right backs, as well as Djourou and young Boateng who can play the position.
There seems to be persistent interest in Jan Vertonghen by Arsenal, but he can play CB, RB and DM, so there’s more versatility.
Ultimately though, another RB is unnecessary – Just sign a young LB to be the third stringer behind Santos and Gibbs, and bring in an understudy to Van Persie who can actually find the back of the net.

i don’t think v need a left back. cos Santos , Gibbs and Vermelan wit the fitness they doing super great job. even do v still have an option such as Santos play as winger and still Gibbs could fill the position. well so far right back v need a back up right back to support Sagna. jackinson is picking up the phase. but still not enough.
For me rather than defend line midfielder need to be strong. and the forward line. cos defend handles the ball perfectly. but the forward line always misses the opportunity and gives back the ball to opponent. so defends of arsenal have more relax less play. every minute they always involved wit the ball. so if v could strong hold the forwards and midfield v are really through,.
Frankly i have no complaints about this team . this is another great Wenger Assemble. with Wilshare appearance i believe Arteta and Ramsy will get a good support. which will lead us to top 3.
Once a gunner always a gunner
