Arsenal chasing young England international
There have been numerous Arsenal transfer rumours linking the Gunners with many established stars, but there is a more believable “Exclusive” in the Mirror that says that Arsenal (and Chelsea I might add) are going to make an offer for a young English player called Nick Powell.
The 17 year-old attacking midfielder is an England youth international and is currently plying his trade at lowly Crewe Alexander in League Two, but it seems that scouts from the two London clubs have been watching him all season and are expected to make serious bids this month.
The Chelsea link is unconfirmed but the Crewe manager Dario Gradi admitted that he had turned down an offer from Arsenal during the summer, but if the Gunners came in with a massive offer they would find it hard to turn down, especially as Powell is only on a schoolboy contract at the moment.
Powell is certainly not an unknown as such, as he has already scored five goals in 17 appearances for the England U17 side, and is hotly tipped as a star of the future. Could this be another young diamond for Arsenal?

im okay with a mass of downvotes if this is ridiculous, but i can’t stop thinking about this. arshavin and walcott would both prefer to play centrally as attacking midfielder and striker, respectively. the ox can play a center attacking mid easily. we have too much depth in the midfield. what if we could use a 4-3-1-2 with 3 central midfielders, a central playmaker in somewhat of a free role, and 2 strikers? we would just have to gain depth in the strikers. the only real designated wide men are full backs, but other people can go wide if needed. i realize this does not exactly fit our current playing tactics, but i can’t stop thinking that it could work, it seems to for milan.

Oh no not another young kid. We want to buy players that are in their peak from 22-26 years of age. Let’s hope we can secure 2-3 quality signings who can make an immediate impact. 4th spot is now something we’ve achieved. We should be setting the benchmark to winning the league now! With all the big teams visiting the Emirates this year, we have a good chance to gain on points.

don’t buy him plz we need to focus on getting quality players like pato, gourcuff, podolski and a left back or just let miquel play there. He has not been doing a bad job at that position.

I was standing next to someone on the train this morning who i think was the everton scout – but he said “they need a left back so we can ask for more from the club. He is contracted with us until 2015 and is 27 years of age. They have sent through an offer for £10.25 million but with your acknowledgement I will reply to them with a counter offer…” and then he got off the train. An arsenal offer – sounds promising

We all know what we’re going up with after this window, a sub standard second rate foreigner that wouldn’t be fit to lace the great Nigel Winterburns boots. Some people need to face it that this is Arsenal, we buy players, they get good and we either sell them (Cashri) or they stay (Henry). This is Wengers way of itband the tight board and owner like it too. All of us want Arsenal to make big signings like Hazard, Gotze and Podolski. One might happen in the next 12 months but not a lot at all. If we want a world class player we are going to have to wait for 3 to 5 seasons until Chamberlain, Ryo, Wilshere, Ramsey, Jenkinson, Coquelin, Frimpong get anywhere near their peak. We need to show ambition to keep the likes of rvp and 17 yr old from crewe won’t cut it. We need the likes of podolski, huntelaar, hazard, vertongen to show the captain and fans we mean business. The fact that we won’t means another potential nasri type saga could happen.
It might take a change of leadership before we eventually splash the cash on world class talent.
At the moment it’s just going to be more rollecoaster rides thoughout the season

Wheres the young talent we signed 6 years ago at 16, 17 years of age? oh that’s right they all buggered off to Barcelona, City and other clubs. We should be reaping the benefits of signing these young ‘diamonds’ years ago, but have we won anything? No we have not, nothing in 6 seasons. We only have 1 or 2 players who can fit into that ‘diamond bracket’, the rest have deserted Arsenal for teams with more ambition. We will be lucky if Wenger even signs anyone this transfer window. Yes we are in the top four, but with the signings of proven players like Gotze, Podolski, Samba, Vertonghen silverware is well within our reach. Gotze is only 19 years old too its not like he’s an old bally. A great investment right there.
The board need a kick up the backside, I’m tired of their half-assed, makeshift plans.

You guys forget that our club is now based on this kind of things. You can’t say you don’t want a promising youngster because we need expirienced players in the 1st team. Of course we need established players, but we also need to feed our young team so stop complaining about this.

You fail to realize that our current 1st team is almost completly made out of the young players wegner brought 3-6 yeaars ago. Szczsny, Gibbs, Song, Diaby, Wilshere, Ramsey, Walcott, Coquelin, Frimpong, AOC, and Robin. If you mean those players that left like Aliadire, Pennant, Flamini, etc. tell me if the really think that they had what it takes to be in the 1st team.

I would love Gotze to sign as he is top qulaity player with great passing ability, capability to get round a player and even decent pace. However, it would be very unreasonable to expect this signing now as his price would be sky high (Dortmund wont want to sell him) and he will also be ineligible to play in the Champions League.

@DNT Not really, half those players you mentioned are still very young and too inexperienced and are actually hardly ever played in the first team. In my opinion, Ramsey, Diaby and Gibbs are not quite good enough either. The only reason why they actually play them is because of our ever lasting injuries. Imagine if players like Viera, Petit, Pires, Henry, Cole, Fabregas, Nasri stayed at Arsenal. We would have up and coming youth combined with brilliant experienced players – a winning combination.
Instead now we are forced to play inexperienced youth and panic buys. If Wenger and the board actually did things right last transfer window, I bet my left nut that we would be above City and wouldn’t have been humiliated by United. It’s late to be crying now, I know, and our boys have done extremely well to come back into the fight, but for the love of our club, Wenger and the board must learn from their mistake and sign one or two WORLD CLASS players now, not loans on makeshift players. We need quality now, as well as in 6 years time.

@Big Gun, but if we can sign youth and develop them we can save money. Say, we buy a 17 year old for 1-2million. He could either be a failure, he could be amazing and lead us to titles, or he could be amazing and leave us. But if we get the right balance between buying youth and proven players, we can do well, and we cut out the reason for them wanting to leave…

As I have mentioned on so many posts Djourou is so clumsy it’s a joke.
Mertesacker never jumps! Seriously he never jumps to head the ball ever!!
RVP has been awful again today but that said he might score like he did in the last match.

Coquelin has been very good and also Koncielny as usual.
Ramsey has covered more distance than any player on the pitch and once again has made the most efforts to try and open up the opponents defense great display.
It does not look promising when we bring Benayoun and Rocisky on does it.
A total switch off from Arsenal in the second half and it is not the first time this season.
It is a miracle we are in the position we are in honestly.
Crazy thing is we are considering loan moves instead of permanent solutions?!

Maybe it’s a good omen for us as regards the January transfer window. When ManU trashed us 8-2 Wenger quickly went to the market. Maybe he wouldn’t have if the result hadn’t been that way. Tell Arsene Wenger to ring Owen Coyle up tomorrow and say to him “We will give you £5-7 million AND Johan Djourou, Sebastien Squillaci and also Francis Coquelin on loan in exchange for Gary Cahill. There is no way Bolton would refuse that offer. Koscielny can cover at right-back until Sagna is fit and i also think we should be looking to buy a top class left back like Baines. When Jenkinson and Gibbs are fit send them both out on loan until the end of the season. Walcott and Gervinho are way too inconsistent. Henry can do a good job for a couple of months, but we must try to get Podolski in as well. It has been proven ONCE AGAIN beyond a shadow of doubt that players like Djourou and Squillaci are simply not good enough for a top 4 team like Arsenal and also players like Almunia, Rosicky, Benayoun (back to Chelsea) Diaby, Arshavin, Chamakh as well as Denilson and Bendtner should be sold so they can make way for some “proper” top class players to come to the club. And Mertesacker, Ramsey and Arteta are squad players at best. SIMPLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH ARSENAL!

on a bright side, let’s consider this match to be a wake up call as Man u game at the start of the season. Perfect timing. I wonder if this loss will have any affect on our deluded manager in terms of the new signings. After tonight,it looks like we need to strenghten in every department – 4 quality signings a must. This teAM has once again shown how to throw a game away. Smashing them in the first half, yet still can’t score and in the second half just don’t play. We need match winners to come off the bench not squilacci. As for todays game everyone except koscielny and coq were disgraceful. Walcott should be sOld to chelsea for the 30 million as he does nothing but run. Gervinho must work on finishing However he is better than Walcott. there is a pattern emerging and its that we get the early goal, miss a hat fulla chances to make it 2, then let the oppersition back into the game time and time again.

Poor result tonight but it was going to happen because of the fatigue of the team. Why not rotate and keep main players on bench?! Arteta, mert, rvp, Kosc even song were tired after 30 mins. Coquelin M.O.M in my opinion. Fantastic display.
Am getting fed up of seeing Walcott/gervhino burst into space on a counter attack, only to stop. Turn. Wait for opposing team to retreat. Then pass it backwards or sideways!
Some harsh criticism on Djorou who continues to play out of position very well most weeks although tonight he was poor.
Again the injuries to key players are showing to be costly when many games are played in a short time.
I agree – at least 3 new quality signings are needed. Loan or bought!

i just cant understand why he wont play oxo, you could see second half we were dead on our feet, surely oxo needs to earn his pay check like everyone else? with so many players running on empty and with no option to rotate vp or the whole defence coz of injuries or lack of alternatives the team is lagging badly. ramsey song and arteta are getting abused too with wenger wary to play rosicky arsh or benny unless forced by injury its just all going tits up again. the ox would of atleast kept fulham busy at the other end, instead of fulham laying siege for the whole second half knowing we didnt have the legs or the threat upfront to push them back, yes theo was having a shocker but atleast the threat of his pace kept fulham 5 yards further back!
i just dont understand wenger sometimes, if tonight wasnt the right night for the ox to play even as an impact sub then when will it ever be? players dying of exhaustion, injury ravaged squad, no sharpness upfront, games every 2 or 3 days and wenger still wont play the ox.

Into the 2nd half, was a disaster waiting to happen. We do the same thing every game, score then sit back. Do nothing to warrant the 2nd or 3rd to kill teams off. The tempo goes, we go flat and there is no creativity, goal threat from anyone other than RVP. We are truely shocking. We are so fortunate to even be 5th. We have now lost 6 games!!!
What strikes me as frankly disasterous is the fact that we have in the squad, players that are supposedly either on the way out or we cant even sell.
The likes of, Squillaci, Arshavin, Rosicky, Almunia, Chamakh. Bendtner on loan still. We have a loanee in Benayoun and potential wantaway Walcott wanting silly money for being a sprinter in boots. Djourou is really not good enough.
What kind of shambles is this? No other manager has this amount of deadwood at his club at this level, Even AVB can get the players to fight for the club if not for him.
The players at Arsenal clearly didn’t have the nouse to kill off Fulham, who are a team of cast offs. They showed more hunger and desire.
We never show the desire to win a game. We have conceeded more away goals than bottom of table Bolton. That should ring alarm bells. Wenger consistently cannot sort his defence out. At the Top you cannot win anything when you concede goals so easily. Stop blaming Refs, linos and injuries. A good team makes its own luck.
I’m sure now we no longer attract the best players as 1 we dont pay well and 2 no agent wants to see his golden egg surrounded by players with no ambition.
RVP has to look long and hard whether he wants to be part of this anymore. I wouldnt blame him from wanting to up his game and hop off.
Imagine everyday, facing Squillaci and Almunia, instead of Vidic and Rio, or Kompany and Hart. There is only so much one can take.
We need a massive clear out. But we can’t even give them away!!!

rd but Gervinho,Walcott sit on the flanks drifting in and out of the game,doing the bare minimum,can,t score goals
can,t shoot on target,in fact the two of them don,t do much for the team,Song is supposedly a holding midfielder
but he has to push upfield and support the attack,leaving
gaps in the midfield as last night,s game vs Fulham shows

Dear Wenger,
What was the rationale of buying Chamberlain at 18m Pounds when he cannot make it to the substitute bench?. Why should you repeat the same mistake with this youngster?.
Arsenal critical need is experience and making additional massive expenditure into the the kids shows how less ambition AW is.
6 years without a trophy and we are still claiming to be building the team.
