Arsenal close in on £5m youngster
The Daily Mail claim that Arsenal are closing in on securing the £5m purchase of Southampton midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a surprise move to prevent rivals Man United and Liverpool from getting their hands on the youngster.
The move would come as a massive surprise to fans after the focus has been on bolstering the center-back position after an injury to Sebastian Squillaci and Thomas Vermaelen undergoing exploratory surgery to try and get to the root of his achillies problems after spending most of the season trying to overcome setback after setback.
I could see this deal going ahead – just when we have been screaming for the manager to spend some money on one area of the squad he bolsters another with a youth prospect who quite frankly, nobody could care about right now!
It is great having a good selection of young players but they are far too over-hyped sometimes and this was shown when Villa smashed our reserves 10-1 last week. Some of the players in that side were tipped to become Arsenal regulars in the future but looking at one of them, Jay E. Thomas for example, he has massive attitude problems and in my opinion won’t make it at all. We look to the youth for a solution but are we fooling ourselves into thinking it is a real solution when it isn’t?
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may be a brilliant youngster, I wouldn’t know as I haven’t seen him play, but it really isn’t what we need right now.

I think that he is buying Alex now because if not now, then it is going to be never. Don’t worry a centre back is on his way to Emirates shortly.we couldn’t have asked for a better new year gift than Squillaci’s injury

I’ve been reading this blog for a while but this article is totally pathetic… know it is annoying that Arsenal lost 10-1 to villa but if you follow the youth team at all, you would realise that team was comprised of the third string reserve side playing against players with premiership experience. Most of arsenal reserve palyers are so good most of them have been loaned out and using that yardstick to judge is appaling. I dont know who this guy is but if he is good enough, buy him so we wont have to pay £30 mill in 3 years.

Not bad, that’s a welcome move. There is no team which is 100% now. Mancity has spent over 350M, but there is nothing special they doing, two points gap difference but also with a game in hand. We shud just get focused from tomorrow against Westham and on Wednsday against Leeds

Wenger already has too many talented youngsters who can’t break into the first teams so far. Under performers but secured such as Eboue, Squillaci, Denilson, Rosicky, Arshavin and Bendtner will not only made Wenger reluctant to buy experience players, but will made the reserves youngsters waiting for their chances to come for so long and finally moves on loan. How long Wenger will play them after throwing lots of cash to get them? Pathetic.

This is the stupidest move Wenger has made.
Hes going to sign Alex oxlade and realise he has great potential but is not good enough to make a difference in the premier league. Then hes going to sign Hazard in july and poor young alex will have no game time. Wasting talent. Selfish Arsenal.

be a good signing but i know for fact the deal won’t be done till summer,whats more important, is again we have had another work permit application turned down, for the young japanese player we got last week, how comes man utd get work permits and we get turn down time and again,should’t we be questioning this fact.
i’ve heard a whisper that arsenal are close to agreeing deal for sobtic, dispite his agent saying otherwise.
