Twitter today has again exploded at the prospect of another transfer. An account more akin to an ITK announced that Arsenal were in talks with Clint Dempsey and all that’s left is for an official transfer bid to be made.
Here are the quotes from @sport_trend:

This is very interesting and slightly surprising news. I didn’t really expect us to be making official talks with Fulham over Dempsey. I knew we were interested in him but thought nothing of it after we acquired the excellent signing of Olivier Giroud.
At first, it dawned on me that he could be the replacement of Van Persie. After all, Dempsey is a known experience Premier league striker who would be a sensible replacement for RVP. At first I was disappointed but it also proves that if the situation arises that RVP will leave, at least we have backups such as Dempsey and Adrian Lopez in the works.
However, people have pointed out that he has played as an attacking midfielder for Fulham throughout the season and he’d most likely do the same for us since we lack a goal threat from that department. He can also play as a left winger as he tends to cut in with his right foot and curl the ball into the back of the net.
You may be thinking that it’s only twitter rumours but quite a few of the reliable tweeters have called SportTrend as reliable. They have been one of the first reporters to announce the Podolski and Giroud deal. We also know that they are made up of a collective group of different journalists working in 8 countries (rather than a fat sweaty 15 year old pretending to be an ITK). I would still urge to remain sceptical but the signs are looking positive.

I hope we do sign him, not as a replacement to RVP but as an attacking addition, if we are to sell Chamakh, Arshavin, Park, Bendtner, then it makes sense to have 4 top strikers, three of which can play on the wings and behind the frontman. The more options the better, I just really hope it is another addition to our everygrowing squad, things are looking positive even without the RVP and Theo situations sorted out

He is a Ramsey type of Attacking Midfielder, no exactly the type to blow up the field with through balls, but knows where to be and how to get the ball in the back of the net. If we do get him, I would send Ramsey out on loan to fullham, they seem to want him anyway.

At arsenal I think our attacking mid needs to be a super creative player with tons of vision and that can unlock any defence…a true fabregas replacement. Dempsey is a good forward but not creative enough. hes a goalscoring mid like lampard but don’t think he is right for us as who we will we rely on for assist and through balls etc

Dempsey would be a great addition to the side. He had a fantastic goal scoring record for a mediocre side. He deserves to play in a strong side with real ambitions. Wenger seems to be making all of his signings early this season which can only be a good sign too. Dempsey, Walcott, Podolski, Giroud, The Ox, Rosicky, Gervinho and a certain RVP will lead us to trophies this season!

Guys Dempsey will not be a replacement for RVP. Dempsey along with Belhanda have one thing in common they can play AM. Arsenal are in search of an AM. Personally I’ll take Dempsey, his got EPL mentality, plus his a goal scoring option. I believe Arsenal will go for him. #COYG

As an American and an Arsenal fan I would love to see it. Also, as an American and an Arsenal fan, I don’t feel too comfortable with it.
If Dempsey wants to go to a team that is going to CL and has a chance to challenge for titles AND wants a good chance to start, then Arsenal is the only team in the EPL that he could be looking at. His other choices would be in Italy most likely. However, if RVP stays, he and Podolski will likely be fighting for a spot. Having not seen more than a handful of Podolski’s games, I would favor Dempsey, but I think Dempsey will always do his best work when given a more free role, and we all know that that won’t happen at Arsenal.
If Van Persie leaves, then we still have plenty of options. Playing Dempsey and Podolski together gives more creativity and more deceptive movements than either of them could with Giroud starting with one of them. I don’t see Arsenal starting him as a CAM, I think Rosicky is a better player at that position than Dempsey, especially in the form he is in currently. Dempsey can also play as a central striker himself, and again working with someone else like RVP or Podolski that likes to move around to find space makes for dangerous options. That would make 3 creative players who can both score and set up others very well. If the right system is worked out between the 3 it could be devastating to opponents. One holding the ball, while the other two make runs. Or even two of them holding, drawing defenders while the other cuts across. Lots of options there.
It’s very interesting news and would certainly strengthen the team, especially depth-wise. And he will probably not cost too much either. I think this would complete the attacking signings very well. Every position covered by at least 2 capable players. As long as we can strengthen the defense a bit more, I think we can really challenge for titles. As an American, I want to see Dempsey starting for Arsenal, but as an Arsenal fan, I hope that is because he is the right player for the position. Oh and a side note, one of my favorite qualities about Dempsey is how much he helps out on defense. Having him on the left side would help out tremendously with Gibbs and Santos being….themselves. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen Dempsey track back and make saving tackles for Fulham and help clear balls from their half.
It would also be nice to find someone who can compete for the RB position with Sagna. I agree that having competition for a spot makes players play better. Look at Walcott last year. He was much more consistent and aggressive going forward after Ox started getting minutes. As long as team chemistry doesn’t become an issue, I welcome Dempsey, M’Vila, and any defenders we get as competition for starting spots as well as much needed (quality) depth in the squad.

To be honest, I don’t trust in this source at all.
But apart from it, Dempsey would be a massive addition to our squad. Last year we saw that the experienced players like Arteta, Yossi and Rosicky could come good for the team.
Something must be in the background if Wenger didn’t buy Yossi for Ł1m.
IMO, he will make a move for him later the summer once we sell Bendtner and Arshavin.

4get a creative midfielder who can pass great, we got plenty of players who can pass, we need goal threats! The more, the better, walcott was the second top scorer last year, with 8! That is a cause for concern, Podolski, Giroud and possibly Dempsey, will all bring goals to the team, that’s wot we need, 4get all the fancy stuff, goals win games! Period. We’ll always create chances, but with these players, we’ll kill games.

O would love to see a fellow American wear the greatest kit for the imo greatest club in the world. That being said thought I don’t know if we need him. A 29 year old is a risk for us. He is a fantastic hard working player, but I will take RvP any day over him. I will take Dempsey but I think him and M’Vila make our midfield too clogged. Song, Wilshere, M’Vila, Arteta, Ramsey, Rosicky, Diaby, Dempsey, Lansbury, Denilson, Eisfield.
I’ll be glad but uncertain of a few players futures.

Belhanda is way much better for Arsenal , its due to the style he plays. Not saying Dempsey is bad, infact i really love the way he plays , but with so many mid players Arsenal has, i not sure how much and where would he really play ?
But if getting Dempsey will bring us the title , then bring him in. He has the hunger and passion and he scores.

not creative enough but he is a goal threat but still watching replays of last season matches we lacked creativity and decision making in the middle. he is an AM but not a creative midfielder only 7 assists last season avaerage of 1.4 key passes a game. we need real creativity we will play with three forward thinking players who want to score but they need passes in behind over the top or to feet podolski RVP walcott giroud gervinho someone has to pick the right option andd its not empsey.

He won’t be used to replace rvp I think your missing a huge point apart from out an out strikers such as drogba ect.. I believe football is heading in a new direction where your wingers are expected to contribute as much as the forwards if we signed clint we’d have 4 striker each capable of dropping back into an attacking midfield roll, you could start rvp podolski giroud and Dempsey like mancity and Spain do where there’s no real positioning upfront bar the “main” outlet striker (rvp) and everyone else will have a specific job but will be given the freedom to interchange and explore

Dempsey is a terrific player, he can influence the team with his good attitude as he has done at Fulham. He has a strong mentality like that of RVP and Podolski. If he joins Arsenal then the squad will be full of talented and Mentally strong players.

look back at last season with how good Dempsey was in a team like fulham (no disrespect here, but they are not arsenal), just think of the prospect of how good he would be with the service that he would get from the likes of arteta, wilshire, ramsey, walcott, podolski, song, need I go on, arteta had premiership experience before he joined and id say that he has been very good for his first season, im looking forward to seeing his efforts next season too, Dempsey is a strong player and a grafter, exactly what arsenal are missing apart from song who is also solid. I think that this would be a great piece of business from arsene wenger and will give arsenal that added aggression that we were missing throughout parts of last season : ) cant wait for next season to get under way, we are going to be challenging without a doubt!

they might otherwise have done.
2) Dempsey is a veteran of the EPL and will not require a breaking-in period.
3) Dempsey is versatile–Wenger could play him in more than one spot.
4) I understand that off the pitch Dempsey is a sweetheart, but when playing takes no crap from anyone. We need tough players like that.

dempsey is a great player i really admire but do we need him nw? we’ve got a great wealth of strikers.. personally i think the missing link is a very creative midfielder (CAM) with loads of experience and i dont think demsey does not fit in. there have been a vacum since fab left. that was the reason song tried to fill that position. again dempsey is 29. my suggestion is get kaka 4rm madrid. i hear he wants to leave. he would not only fill the gap but also serve as a role model 4 the lyks of wilshere and co which will aid there development. agin i’m getting really scared of the fact that AW is desperately out for strikers. does it mean RVP is leaving? dont know, just curious
