Arsenal considering a bid for Vermaelen's old partner
According to all the papers this morning, Arsenal have been back in Holland keeping an eye on another Ajax defender, Gregory Van Der Wiel, after having great success with the move of Thomas Vermaelen this summer.
Vermaelen admitted that Arsenal had been watching him for ages and had compiled an intensive dossier on him before deciding to make a bid, and i am sure that Thomas himself could provide most of the important information for Wenger to make an informed decision.
The 21 year-old Van Der Wiel has spent his whole career at Ajax, and made his debut two years ago.
He has since become a regular in the side, and was quickly promoted to the Holland national side.
He is a great fan of Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie, and once famously said: “It’s weird man, when I was 15 years old I played on the street with a Van Persie jersey. I always wanted to be Robin. And now, we’re playing in the same team. How cool is that?”
Could he end up playing in the same side as Van Persie at Arsenal, as well as with Holland?

This would be an exciting signing for us, i think either Sagna or Eboue will be sold this summer as there is alot of interest in both of them and Wenger will of course make a tidy profit! I’d prefere to see Sagna go as Eboue is more versetile and can be more offensive. Van der Wiel/Cahill/Hazard as our January/Summer signings??? A RB ..Could this mean the end of Eboue or Sagna .. The former mostly?!?!?!
I suggest Wenger get another CB while he is at it. Gallas has shown poor form and is generally knackered beside a poor judgement of flight of a ball. Was turned over yesterday and the need for a decisive DM who do the job without dithering has never been more needed. We frequently lost possession that it was embarrassing.

Mate he wont sell tat many ppl ..One or two n mostly Sagna .. He has been too slow n doesnt provide attackin options at all .. Hes not gud enuf for us .. But a decent player nontheless .. Pls don sell Eboue plz .. But Wenger always prefers sagna to eboue evry time .. So it myt be an interesting sitution for both RB’s if a transfer is confirmed!!!
It would be a grave mistake to sell either of Eboue or Sagna – we have no one in the ranks to replace them. And you need cover for Sagna. I disagree that Wenger will look to sell either of them.
you guys are really ediots you know that if you think that arsene had even thought of the idea of selling either eboue or sagna then your stupid its like asking Jose Murinho to come and manage Arsenal IMPOSSIBLE never is and never was thinking about selling them you guys are absolutely stupid you know that. And for those of you who have been criticizing gallas he has been our best player since the start of 2009 JANUARY! without gallas thomas vermaelen would not of have settled in like he has now vermaelen even said it himself, you guys are just fu**ing ridiculous!!!
Let Vermaelen provide information to wenger and build a very strong defense and also our stricking line needs an addition of one sharp person.
Hey guys i don wan the RB’s to be sold .. but wat if the new guy van der wiel is a grt RB n hes not tat young to be straightaway sent to the bench or reserves ..wat if we’ve 3 gud RB’s then ..One has to sold ryt .. tats wat i meant ..but ryt now RB luks ok for me !!
Ive seen reports tat hes been a gud RB for Ajax n Netherlands .. So he will be challengin tat spot in Arsenal first team if he makes a switch.. wat will happen then is wat im interested!!
