Arsenal favourites to sign young Southampton left-back

Posted on January 11, 2012 by admin

It has been revealed this morning that the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will once again have his scouts at the Reebok Stadium tonight to watch their young Southampton left-back Luke Shaw in action in the Youth Cup against Bolton.

Shaw is not legally allowed to sign professional terms with anyone until July when he reaches 17 years of age, but it is believed that the Saints have already put a price of £4m on the youngsters head, despite him still awaiting his senior debut.

But the teenage defender has already appeared regularly for the England U17 side and Trevor Brooking has already pinpointed him as a possible star of the future.

Although Arsenal were always going to be favourites to sign the Southampton youngster after having already done deals for Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with the South Coast club, the Independent also reports that the Gunners could face competition from Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, who are also very keen on bringing in promising yung English talent into their Academy teams.

Its true and am support you that young star is better for the future but for right now we need the experience player cause there’s leakage on our defence.

Fine with me. AW is also looking at Eric Abidal which would be a perfect move for us-experience, France caps, composure.

I’ll go for Abidal… or someone Experienced & available player for short term… Baines is not practical cause we have Santos as our No.1 … Gibbs should be given another chance to prove before next window in summer….

  7. Adm says:

I hope to see the likes of Yennaris, Miquel and Coquelin get more chances to play at full back rather than Djourou or Squillaci.

Samba would be a better and easier signing than Baines, as Blackburn aren’t looking to good in relegation zone and I’m sure the beast would love to play in a CL team.

Samba would be a gr8 move, but blackburn will hold on to him like mad, as he is the corner stone of dere defence. hes also dere captain. just
Imagine Mertesacker standing next to Samba in the back line?

If Mertesacker partner with Samba, I can say it is surely not gonna work… Both aren’t quick, just strong and tall…

    @jason

Is Merts strong? Tall, yes, and my is he tall! But I can’t count the number of times he’s been bullied off the ball by a dogged 3-foot forward.

  17. S.H says:

Why do people keep insisting on Samba when we have a plethora of centre backs? We need a LB, RB or anyone that can play on either wing in defence. We’re never getting Samba, lets just put that to rest and move on.

  18. S.H says:

Oh I forgot to mention Baines is never going to be signed by Arsenal. Everton will overprice him as any team in the EPL does with their star players. Lets wake up to reality people!
