Arsenal Go To Russia In Search Of A New Striker
The search is on at the Emirates for a consistent goalscorer to share the workload with Robin Van Persie, and the search has now gone as far as Russia according to recent reports. The player in question is the Brazilian Vagner Love who plays for CSKA Moscow.
CSKA have made no secret of the fact that Love can leave and their president Yevgeny Giner has admitted as much. Speaking a few days ago to the Russian newspaper Sports Express Giner said, “We’re chasing a forward who seems to be very promising. I don’t think this should have a direct connection to Vagner. We need four forwards in the squad anyway. But we really intend to let Vagner go. After eight years spent in one place you really need to change team. The negotiations will begin in November, when we’ll understand what players are leaving, what we need to change and which problems we need to solve in the near future.”
Arsenal are rumoured to be interested in the Brazilian, who scored for CSKA against Inter Milan on Tuesday evening, but it remains to be seen if they take their interest any further. Earlier this year Manchester United were also linked with a move for Love, but it is Arsenal that are now being mentioned.
During his time in Moscow Love has won two Premier League titles, five Russian Cups, three Super Cups and the UEFA Cup back in 2005 and he has also represented Brazil on 21 occasions though the last time was back in 2007.
Do we need someone like Vagner Love, a player that has not been the easiest player to manage during his career, or should we be looking to the likes of Ju Young Park and Marouane Chamakh to step up to the plate, or now that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has shown what he can do should Theo Walcott get his wish and play upfront alongside RVP?

Don’t know much about him but, we need support for our skipper and he must be an out and out striker.

It kinda disappoints me that these are the best players that arsenal can go after due to clubs like man city; destroying the market place by offering inflated fees and substantial salaries to every player. It hurts me that the stars that arsenal crave are out of arsenal reach!!!

Love is a great footballer no doubt but we certainly do not need him. Chamakh is actually a good forward and I enjoy watching him play, we also have Gervinho and Walcott (when he’s not injured). “Mr. Glass-Ankles” RVP is an amazing player but his injuries are borderline irritating. Arsenal score goals about 9/10 games. It is our defense that is utterly grotesque!

RVP needs assistance up front. Even He is not superman. (Absolutely no discredit to RVP – we just all know that if we overuse him, we’ll lose him for half a season, and that would be a real shame).
I think we definitely need another striker. Chamakh needs to go. I just don’t see the work rate required in him.
Park … jury is still out for me, but I haven’t been impressed. (Look at players like Suarez and Aguero – they came in and have immediately made huge differences for their teams. I guess that that’s the difference between £3mil and £20+mil). Would be nice to get a proven forward who can net on the first touch. No one other than RVP seems to be capable of that in our current side – albeit AOC look oh so promising.

Get Tevez – an out and out striker and we can afford most of his wages which should have dropped as a result of his position Munich. And it is doubtful he would do that again.

You question Chamakh’s work rate? His work rate isn’t the question as he works very hard at winning the ball back when we’ve lost it, making himself available as a point man to hold up the play, and bringing others into the attack. His issues are his footwork in terms of turning and taking defenders on and his FINISHING. If he was half as good at turning and taking defenders on as he is with aerial challenges he’d be really dangerous.

He will be a player just like Arteta and Gervinho when we sign him because he is a ready-made material. We have too many average players in the team and watching Gervinho, Arteta, Van Persie n Arshavin on his good days show us what we need in Arsenal: not good but great players that cam change the outcome of a match in a ssplit second. I have watched him many times and if he is still as good as he was we would be stealing a great finshed work at a very economic price. Moreover, he suits our present pattern of using one striker cos he is ‘a one-man riot squad’. The taste of the pudding is in the eating. Just like people now genuinely feel that Theo may have something close to a competition so also would we feel for Van Persie when we watch Vagner love a few times. Sir Wenger, if you want this team to keep going south, then this is your man.

A good striker is the one who knows where to place the ball and score. There are many such players in Europe. The problem Arsenal has is its transfer policy. Relax this policy and go out there and get players suitable for such roles.

another striker isn’t what we need, we need a solid center half, like cahil, which is who we should’ve bought, not mertesacker, mertesacker is well to slow, if not cahil, then we should sign hummels or subotic, also we should’ve signed someone like hazard, a direct replacement for nasri, arteta is a good signing but doesnt offer as much as fabregas did, i think we need to bring in honda and on top of that, michel bastos as cover in ALL positions, bastos could well be THE most versitile player on the planet, he can play at left back, cm, or on either wings. if not bastos, then get myaichi playing or get arshavin to wake up!!

walcott upfront with vp just off him, gervinho arteta and song in the middle, then a 5 man backline with gibbs and sagna running the flanks, plus kosh verm and the pear in the middle!
This system is so effective as with 3 cbs you cant let the wingbacks have free movement without being exsposed but can also drop deep to make it 5 at the back when needed, it also alows the attacking players complete freedom to rotate positions when the 5 drop back behind the ball. you can also employ one of the cbs as a sweeper or push on further on to link with the midfield, and finally the wingbacks can push up to make it 5 across the middle but still have 2 upfront with theo and vp and the safety of 3 cbs.
And yes i should be a football manager!

Tevez is exactly the type of player we need, minus the ‘I am God’ attitude. We need a striker like him who is tough, chases everything and most of all very rarely misses. RVP has no dribbling ability and is actually quite lazy. We need a striker who can make up for his weaknesses. A Rooney/Tevez type is much needed up front. A player like that will make a HUGE difference. Don’t know about Love, just a bit strange how the team he is currently playing for is looking for a new striker to replace him. Makes me think we are content to settle for left overs.

The defense needs to be strengthened, a world class striker won’t hurt, but not Love. Defense must be first priority, Get CAHILL!

The problem comes down to the choice of players within our squad.
Park should be ahead of chamack… and with djorou’s and rosicky’s form I don’t see why not give a chance to myachi, lansbury (recall) and bartley (recall).
Plus arshavin looks better as attacking midfielder than as winger.
and vertonghen looks to be the missing screw to tighten up our defense.

Someone should please tell me the reason why we bought Park. I thought it was to reduce the workload of Van persie and besides Park is a real striker and we should have been featuring him in our games because that is what we bought him for.

Vagner love is nothing special.
I watch all the leagues in Europe and he above average for the Russian league and that’s about it.
Just another cheap solution that will end up not being a solution at all.
My list would consist of a few proven and a few with good potential as follows:(we are still allowed to dream of signing quality)
Mario Gomez
Seydou Doumbia
radamel falcao
Di natale
edison cavani
Alexander Pato
higuain
benzema
kevin gameiro
mousa sow
I still insist that our midfield should be scoring and helping the strikers which is not happening at the moment.
If they were covering the defense you could forgive them but they are way behind on that as well.
Midfield options:
Eden Hazard
Hamsik
Kaka
Bastian Schweinsteiger
m’villa
I don’t want to talk about our defense as the problem has been there for so long and Arsene has still not adressed the issue.

Red DB – good list. Finally someone who’s talking sense. Agree with needing quality, but we seem to be buying just below par at the moment. (Arteta may be the only player IMO who is quality …. AOC is definitely a good buy, but not a proven player kind like we need). btw – I’m not saying any of the other players we have just bought are rubbish, just no the calibre we should go for.
Forwards – although I love your choices, I can’t see any of these coming to Arsenal. Personally would love Higuain. He’s young, and hungry striker.
Midfield – Hazard would be my pick for a Fabregas replacement. What I have seen of him is really impressive. (also young, so would fit Wenger’s typical purchase style).
As for ALL people suggesting Tevez – seriously???!! Yes he’s good, but a grade “A” loser! If he acts like this for City, he’ll be the same for any other team … once the honeymoon period is over. There’s what happens to a good player when his over-inflated ego takes over, and his true character comes out. it’s just not the Arsenal style. So give it a break people, there is more to the right player than just skill. Character and integrity are part of the equation to be a Gunner.

buy tevez! manchini has already said that tevez will be leaving the club after he refused to come off the bench. im not suprised y he isnt happy as at manshty u cant expect to keep a first team place for long. i believe a new club for tevez would be a great chance for a new start and i dont think his atitude will follow with all due respect to love as i know how good he can be on form.

pluss this will give us a chance to go to the 4-4-2 formation. imagine RVP linked up with the almighty TEVEZ we would be incredible in attak but we still obviously have to work on the defence. plus sum1 show AOX how to defend bcus he looks like he doesnt know wat to do but he is so good in attack great signing
