Arsenal have £8m bid for Podolski turned down
It is being reported this morning that Arsene Wenger made an £8m bid to sign the Koln striker Lukas Podolski this month, but the Bundesliga side turned Arsenal away despite the striker only having 18 months left on his contract.
Wenger desperately needs a classy back-up striker to cover for Robin Van Persie and has pinpointed Podolski as the best option at an economical price, but Koln are hoping that the 26 year-old will impress watchers at the Euros and help bump up his asking price in the summer.
Today’s People quotes Arsene Wenger as saying: “I am tempted to go into the market, but the players we have approached were not available.”
They also report that Koln will be less disposed to sell to Arsenal in the summer after the Germans became annoyed that Wenger only offered a derisory price this time around for a quality player.
Many Arsenal fans have agreed that Podolski could be the long term answer to the Gunners striking weaknesses, but should Wenger have offered a higher price to try and tempt Koln to sell?

£8m is a reasonable bid even if He had 2, 3 years let on his contract with koln, I still think He should not come more than 9,10m. I want Him to join Arsenal.

Here we go again barely 48 hrs to go for the window to close and the usual stories coming up again.
It’s good to have some hope but unrealistic hope becomes delusion. Nobody’s gonna be signed by Arsene.
We certainly need new players but more than that, we need a whole new direction. Arsene is gonna come out with the same rethoric and we all know where we’re headed at the end of this season!

The price tag should be around 12m-15m..8m is too low for a high profile player like podolski. Even Arteta is 10m.

Right step in right direction, however the price should shifted more to the right( add some few millions). Podolski can be b/w 10 to 12 million dollars for his quality, and no body wil reject our offer. Cmon Wenger we are in need and no quality is cheap!

Wenger very much aware that pedolski is not available for 8 m bid. Thats why he bid that amount. Actually Arsene doesn’t want to buy any player this winter transfer window. He went for the drama only to calm down fans. Then he will say “we tried our best, but quality players are not available now”

Sorry, going to have to disagree with most of you. Podolski is a quality player. Worth 15 mil and up. Also you must take into consideration all factors – no purchase in any industry is made in isolation. You need to look at the bigger picture, ie. Kohl’s attachment to the player and vice-versa, Arsenal’s desperation, the fact that it is mid-season and that we have no other reasonable options.
This reeks of the Cahill fiasco.

No way Podolski will join Arsenal now. In Arsenal he would play only when Van Persie needs rest or is Injured. He would be playing at left wing only till Gervinho comes back. Podolksi needs to prove himself for the Germany Squad for the Euro. In arsenal he will not get the chance. But in Koln he is the main player,so the chances of making an impact & getting into Germany squad is more there. Hope to see him definitely after next transfer window

So arsenal bid 6m for cahill and he went for 7m shows wenger was not that far wrong. also to he totally honest cahill is.no better than vermaelen koscielny or mertesacker. sure he is better than our 4th and 5th choice but once.he is found out at chelsea he will find hard to keep his place. i think he will end up as understudy to terry as they are similar but terry is quite obviously still better.
as for podolski if this is true i expect one more bid but with us already needing to shift 1 non homegrown player signing podolski would mean 2

Trust me, Podolski is no better than Bendtner.
Its the same old names calling for him as it was for Arshavin a couple of seasons ago and will be the same ones slagging him off when he is found out, same as Chamakh.
I actually think if I made up a name and said he was great that within minutes idiots here would be calling fir Wenger to get him for 15 mil.

I hope it’s true that we actually bid for him because it lets us all know that Wenger at least acknowledges that Chamakh isn’t cutting it, Bentnder and whoever out in loan obviously aren’t good enough. So to me it says we will be 1 less Moroccan this summer or sooner (I pray).
I think Podolski is a great striker and exactly the type we need. He wants out of his team and Our own BFG has been talking him up. Increase the bid to 10 million and get it done but don’t offerf over 12. I’m sure they’re hoping to up his value at Euro but I don’t see that happening. Mario Gommez is Germany’s #1 and Klose is playing well in Italy. It’s not like Podolski will start every game.

Who in their right mind would consider taking Chamakh? Even as part of a deal, any club would be silly to consider that. Considering Arshavin, his old club wanted him for 10m. Just sell him please and then use the 8m + 10 from Arshavin and buy a super striker. We need a backup for RvP more than anything else. We have enough midfielders, although most of them are not good enough, we do not have any replacement for RvP. Park really has not been given enough chances, and ffs he has military service next year. Why did we even buy him? No f*cking logic from Wenger and company. We still had to steal him from under Lille’s nose, now the chances of getting Hazard are next to none. You would think if a player get’s snatched out from under another clubs nose who were about to sign that player, he must be something special right? Well maybe he is, but Wenger has hardly played him.

Today was a breath of fresh air. We’ll take the win. But …
Can’t look at it on its own. We lost 3 straight till today. And our defence was appalling in the 1st half. 2 penalties and a fluke goal by walcott won us the game. Yes its a win. Was it a strong win? … Don’t think so. Our defence is still lacking. And midfield creativity still isn’t there. (Song was very good tho).
Really, depth is lacking in our team. We need someone who can step in for RVP. Even today, Henry came on, but not to replace RVP. Really, he replaced Walcott. (Great to see Sagna back, albeit for 7mins). We need to offload Arshavin, Chamakh (but seriously, who wants him?), and would even say Walcott – get good money for him while people don’t realise he is overated. Then buy a couple of capable game changing players (we all know who they are Hazard, Gotze etc). Then we have a good young squad we can bleed in – Ox, Ryo etc. (Remember, these young kids are doing exceptionally well considering they have been thrown in amongst the wolves so to speak).
I just hope Wenger doesn’t now do the opposite of what he did last transfer window – he panic bought because of the loss against MU, and now will buy nothing because of a win today. Both situation were knee jerk reactions, instead of calculated, strategy choices to move our team forward towards glory.
