Arsenal have no need of Eden Hazard anyway!

Posted on February 14, 2012 by admin

I admit that I have been rocked today by the news that Eden Hazard is clearly leaning towards joining Spurs in the summer window. As to why he would want to join Spurs, I have no idea. There is no doubting that Spurs have a good side, only a fool would refute that, but I believe that their success is extremely fragile.

This summer, it is very likely that Harry Redknapp – the reason for their success – will leave for the England job. Modric looks like he might go if a higher wage bill is dangled in front of him and several of their key players are pushing it with age (e.g. Parker and Friedel). This is not to mention that their back line is next to useless, with King being their only reliable centre-back, and even he is injured half of the time.
Anyway, this isn’t a Tottenham-slagging blog, it’s an Arsenal one. So, onto Arsenal matters.

I don’t believe that we would have signed Hazard in the summer anyway. This is because Hazard is a winger. At the moment, the areas in which we need to strengthen are up front and, perhaps, a CAM is required. Out of these two, up front is more necessary as, at the moment, RVP is really our only decent option in that department. The problem which arises, however, is that a striker of that quality will not be happy to come and simply sit in the bench, waiting for the Flying Dutchman to get injured. Perhaps Podolski is the answer, as he can get game time on the wings as well if necessary.

But I digress; the point is that Hazard, while a player of real quality, is not our priority at the moment. His signing would take up most of our transfer budget and there would be little money to reinforce in the areas in which we need more. However, this situation may need looking at again in the summer as, if Theo doesn’t sign a new contract, we will be looking at an Arsenal side looking fairly thin on the flanks. On the other hand, if Theo does sign a new contract, our flanks will be sorted for years to come, especially if Myaichi comes back from Bolton as a complete player (like Wilshere did). In this case, Arsenal’s set of wingers would look like this: Gervinho, Walcott, Ox-Chamberlain, Myaichi and Arshavin. Now, that is a set of wingers which could, in my opinion, annihilate any defence…

The 3 biggest talents in Europe right now are Gotze, Erikson and maybe Hazard. If Arsenal are going to buy any of these players its most likely going to be Erikson and hes probably the 1 we could do with the most anyway. Dont understand why so many people on this site are in love with Hazard when im fairly certain all they have seen sre youtube clips. Hes brilliant on his day ya but so is Theo Walcott. Hazard is known for his inconsistency, that is the last thing we need. Not sayin i dont rate him would love to have him at Arsenal but to pay £25m for an inconsistent winger who has had 2 ok seasons in Ligue1….no thanks we leave that shit to Chelsea. Spurs havnt a fuckin hope of gettin him either by the way. My only fear is Fergie will snap up Erikson when they play Ajax..

    @DD totally agree with you

also I highly doubt Tottenham will be able to buy him, Hazard seems to change his mind as often as the weather, first it was arsenal or Barcelona then he flirts with Juventus, next its Chelsea, before it was Liverpool and now Tottenham, just waiting till he decides he wants to go to Blackburn LOL! with wilshere and ramsey progressing nicely it is important not to spend too much money on players, look at Barca it took the 30 years of working with different methods to get to where they are today. In arsene we trust

Arsenal fans should make up their minds. Wenger did not sign him in the summer, and everyone slagged him off. Wenger refused to sign him in January and everyone moaned about Wenger being deluded. Now the guy talks about spurs, and we start saying “who needs him anyway?”
Is Wenger deluded or still smarter than most of us when it comes to managing Arsenal???

I think the same as you too but in terms of spurs. I mean, they already have problems in securing adebayor’s deal and even have to sell some players and now they say you want hazard. Quite impossible huh?

And hazard, Spurs is looking good now but remember, they will never be better than Arsenal in terms of quality and history. Make the wise choice. I think I make it sounds like I am talking to hazard personally, LOL

  15. zdzis says:

Hazard is not a winger by design – he can actually operate all across the midfield (in an attacking role, of course). There are two things, however, which kill the idea. One is that Arsenal don’t use a clear-cut CAM; instead, each of the midfielders doubles as DM (and the DM takes up attacking duties in his time). We’ve seen this work beautifully, with Song feeding killer passes to RVP and Walcott. For this, you need players with flair, but who can also get back and repossess the ball.
The other problem is the price. If Hazard is really only to be had for 35m, I don’t think our beloved management will like the idea. What I expect, rather, is that they will gamble on Wilshere coming back in form, and perhaps Eisfeld or Ozyakup taking that vital step up the ranks. From what can be gathered, both Reserves guys could make it in the 1st team, so it could be interesting having them play for it. Still, neither is as explosive as Hazard…
I would still prefer the Belgian, even if we would have to wait half a season before he actually started doing his job right.

  17. KickuPthearsene says:

It all depends on what you are aiming for. If we want middle order medecrity (as we have seen happen to Liverpool), then we don’t NEED any of those players – Hazard, Gozte, Mata … . But if we want to compete at the top, we NEED high calibre players – Fabregas, Nasri, RVP.
The problem is, we continue to lose those players who could help us WIN the league or cups, and replace them with what …. Park? Chamakh? These are not the top players we should attract. They are second tier players, who know coming to Arsenal is a step up for them.
Let’s be real, if we are to follow the trend, RVP is a certainty to leave us in the summer. And who replaces him? Who replaced Fabregas? We DO NOT replace like for like. We sell/lose our best players, and replace them with someone who is inferior, or needs developing – and when that player who we develop comes good …. WE SELL THEM!! What is the point of that??!!?? Just when it would pay off to have them, we get rid of them. Why? ….. It’s all about the ££££££. Our club is currently not about winning trophies. It’s mantra is “show me the money” (to quote a bad movie).
I hate to say it, but currently Spurs are doing what we should be – developing a well balanced team that can challenge for the title. They have some great solid, proven, experienced players, with some good youth prospects. That’s the way it should be. On the other hand, Wenger is all about young players, but does not do what it takes to keep our quality – as will happen with RVP in the summer. This strategy is flawed. But as one definition of insanity puts it “we continue to do the same thing, expecting a different result” (6 years of no trophies is evidence enough). I am sick and tired of watching our great club being turned into a money making machine. This is football, not a trainee-ship business.

I am a fan of development rather than acquisitions. No body doubts the talent of AOC in spite of his age. I do not think that there is anything we can get from Hazard that we won’t get from AOC at least by next season. Miyaichi is a real prospect. All things being equal, he’ll come back from Bolton ready to take the premiership by storm. Gervinho actually produced better returns than Hazard at Lille in their last season together there. Walcott won’t be sold because of nationalistic reasons. If I had my way, Hazard will only come to Arsenal if we sell Walcott and Arshavin. I said at the beginning that I was a fan of development. I would rather have Miyaichi and AOC develop to the players they are capable of becoming rather than bring in Hazard.

Just watch what Ryo does at Bolton. He single handedly kept bolton in the game against Wigan, and that was in 45 minutes. He was easily the most dangerous player in the Netherlands last year, often getting double and triple marked! What we really need is bruiser of a striker that can wear out defenses to make life easier for RVP. And we happen to have that with Joel Campbell. He looks to be an absolute menace for defenders, and he draws dons of fouls. Also I’d like to get either Subotic or Hummels from Dortmond. I believe that Mertesaker’s slip last week was the last play of his Arsenal career. We need a big, physical stopper that can read the game, and both Subotic and Hummels check that box extremely well.

Hazard is a good player, although for that price I’d also rather go for Erikson. Wouldve wanted Goetze but of the three of them I think he is the most unlikely to be moving anytime soon.
If we can get Erikson,Vertonghen and another striker, I’ll take either Podolski or Giroud. I’m sure three signings of that calibre is surely not too much to ask.
In a perfect world I would also like Cavani but his pricetag will be way to big.
Another two players that Im actually quite suprised we havent been linked to recently is Marko Marin and Ibrahim Affelay. The latter of the two I think can be a very good signing.

I personally feel that we definately need another striker. Chamakh we be gone come summer and i also feel park could leave (definately bought to sell some shirts in asia). A striker I would reccomend would be solgado, we could get him for 12-15 million I beleive that was the price tag put on him, or get that giroud guy who has proved himself to be a good striker + giroud has alot of height which could help in corners and crosses. i would be happy if i saw either partnered with van persie as if one of these is signed im sure he will stay. alot of you may say podolski for a striker, i agree in the summer he would be about 8mil but he is more a wing player and if arshavin leaves then he could be brought in possibly but if we do get him as a striker i would stil be happy. A creative midfielder is needed though and erikson is better than gotze and hazard and much cheaper to at 15-18 mil and is about 20 i beleive. some great news as well as we may have some more dosh to spend in the summer as reports have said that usmanov has reached the 30% limit to force his way onto the board so ive heard. this is great he will give huge funds and with the current board saying they need to make sure they have profits of 15-20 million before they can spend which is annoying so usmanov will be a great addition and if he hopefully goes for a full takeover will leave us debt free. btw usmanov is the 35th richest man in the world and is second richest in the prem so we would have financial power but im sure we would not abuse it.

overall if these transfer and usmanov business happen or have happend (meaning usmanov) then we will be a great team agai

I still think he’s a quality player. Ryo will not be ready for another year at least, he’s played one game in the BPL, yes he looked good but Wenger will wrap him up in cotton wool when he returns, we need someone who can jump straight in. I have a feeling Arshavin will return to Russia in the summer, so that leaves our left wing wide open if that happens.

The article is correct in saying we need to focus on an attacking midfielder, but isn’t that jacks job now? We have Rambo and Arteta in the centre, with Song sitting behind them (which btw has been phenomenal this season, some of his passes have been first class). Perhaps Wenger could start to play Frimpong in CDM and push Song further up the pitch if we don’t want to dip into the transfer market for Gotze or Hazard, then purchase another striker.

First time I ever had a comment hidden for low rating and all I said was that the Arsenal wingers are rubbish. Some people out there can’t handle the truth. Walcott played well against Blackburn when they had no full-back and then went back to being anonymous as normal against Sunderland. Wake up people, Arsenal need a top quality winger if Walcott is first choice. Also can’t believe that people are saying we’re ok because we’ve got Chamberlain and Miyaichi. They are kids who have hardly played any games in the Premiership, hardly ready to have the hopes of the next 10 years pinned on them. Look at Walcott for England, hattrick against Croatia a couple of years ago and no international goals since. False dawns happen all the time. As for development being the way to do it 50 youngsters at the club of which probably 48 will leave for free and never play for Arsenal. Meanwhile they’re all being paid out of the clubs’ wage budget. Basically I disagree with almost everyone about everything, so perhaps a low rating isn’t surprising.

The fact that people see his comments and conclude he is definitely leaning towards Sp*rs is laughable. Their was a bogus report that went in the Belgium press that he had already signed with Tottenham, when asked about it he was diplomatic and basically said “they’re a top club, and I will move to a top club most likely in England.” He also mentioned that Spanish style football suits him but he’d only go to Real or Barca.

But to digress why would anyone think he’d fit in Sp*rs wage structure. The kid has Chelsea and City interested, unless Tottenham plan to sell both Bale AND Modric they will have no shot at offering Hazard the wages that will be offered by other clubs. And with the way he is whoring himself out to every team I guarantee he will go to the highest bidder, which in all likelihood will not be Arsenal or Sp*rs.
