Arsenal in talks for proven Premiership striker
It seems that the recent Arsenal transfer news linking the Gunners with a move for the 26 year-old Chelsea striker/winger Salomon Kalou were completely accurate.
According to many sources this morning, but originally in the Daily Mail i believe, the Ivorian international has been given special permission to return to London by his national team to help clinch the deal.
Kalou only has six months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and it has been reported that Arsenal have made a £3million offer to Chelsea to tempt them into selling Kalou now rather than let him move to the Emirates for free next summer.
Although Kalou rarely became a regular starter for the Blues he still managed to get 57 goals in 230 appearances, mostly coming off the bench as an impact sub. It has been reported that Kalou’s childhood idol was Thierry Henry so he would love to join Arsenal right now while the Arsenal legend is back at the club.

Not amusing i must say…. We need a prolific player whoz is doing well for his club. For me Kalou is a gamble and we have gamble enuf…. Please put up bids for a player like Podolski or Pato or Demba Ba….. We need a permanent solution and a player who will inspire his team mates. We have enuf average players.
A reflection on yesterday’s game with Leeds. We played well and passed the ball well. But only until the introduction of Henry did we find the net…. We need a Goal Machine….
Enuf respect to Thierry and welcome home, but we need a more permanent solution.
My other question….what does the Professor see in Asharvin that we all dont see… please i didnt understand why he took out Chamberlain and left him in……

What would Kalou be like? Looking at 08/09-10/11 for Chelsea he played in all comps 75 games for 35 goals and 19 assists an ave of 25G/11+g/6+a. Compare that with Samir Nasri over the same period for Arsenal he played 109 games for 27 goals and 13 assists an ave of 36+G/9g/4+a. He is 26, perfect age for a striker and has EPL experience including premierships with Chelsea. He has a international link to Gervinho as well. Podolski is the name on everyones lips at the moment is the same age and in the same period played 66 games for 26 goals and 15 assists an ave of 22G/8+g/5a.
Lets talk money – we sold Nasri for a ridiculous 22+M and Podolski would cost us realistically in the summer 12+M if he keeps scoring goals.(and if PSG or ManC dont offer the world) Kalou would be 3M and given Podolski is untested in a tougher competition where Strikers have a much more torrid time Kalou would be excellent business if we can get him.

Ive always thought given playing time, Kalou would be very good player but with Drogba and Anelka there he has had very little chance to shine and if true certainly much better than the likes of Chamakh.

Demba Ba is what we need seeing Podolski will not move before Summer. Moussa Sow wants to come and AW should persue that. He has the funds. But still nothing regarding leaking defence!!! Bridge is not up to Arsenal standard. Cissoko is better bet. Build the squad AW. Where is our attacking midfielder?

At the end of the day, we MUST have faith in Wenger’s selection of someone like Kalou. After all, he MUST know more than we fans do about the guy. Until it’s proved otherwise, we MUST back the manager AND the player (if he signs).
We can do little else.

Despite a lack of game time @ cheaksea, i think Kalou is a consistent performer than Wallcott at higher level. His work rate and forcefullness far exceeds Wallcott, who only exceled may only in 5 games this season out of possible 25 games.

He has a much better Premiership record than Theo which means he would warrant a first team place in this current squad and for only 3m. He’s much less of a risk than Podolski who’s never played outside Germany and was useless for Bayern. Demba Ba has had 4 months of good performances after transferring from a team that was relegated. This lad has consistently performed well if not spectacularly for Chelsea mainly coming on from the bench. If you compare his stats to the Arsenal players who come on from the bench, namely Arshavin and Chamakh, he’s of a different class. I’d love to see a marquee signing but neither Demba Ba or Podolski are what we need.

‘arry redknapp said Ba has a release clause at around 7million pounds. If he knows that he clearly is interested. If Tottenham add him to their strong squad they will probably finish above us and may have a shot at the title. Arsenal should bid, and do whatever we can for Demba Ba. We need a striker.

I’m not for adding Kalou. If I read this right, we’re willing to pay for a deadwood player to “rescue” him from his club but he have players at Arsenal that aren’t good enough to play for us or even have someone else buy them from us before their contracts end (Bendtner, Dennilson, Squid, Almunia, etc). We sell off our best players and don’t strengthen our squad every chance we have to do so and then in a midseason transfer window all we’re willing to do is bring in a surplus player from Chelsea and an overpaid & unused twat from Man City?
Why we are even at this point everyone knows. We need permanent solutions and statements of intent. Bringing Henry back was a great idea IMO, he adds experience, class, and a coolness that can’t be taught. Did you see him on the ball last night? He never panics like the majority of our squad except for RVP & Arteta when they’ve got a ball at their feet and a defender at their back. We need more of this, although not at 34 years old. We need to buy quality experienced players that are current starting players for their squad. Vertonghen, Samba, Baines, Podolski, Goetze, Hazard, Reus, etc. are all proven quality players that surely will be snatched up by someone, why not Arsenal???
Hell, even Demba Ba is proving himself and we could’ve had him on a free. But unless their French and a “deal” we can’t be fussed.
Until their is a change in the board room we will not see this change.

As much as I hate his lazy face, he might do alright. He saved Chelsea on numerous occasions until he was dropped. He’s quick and has a good snap shot in front of goal (right footed thankfully), we might benefit from this as he won’t try and pass it into the net like the rest of our midfield.
Again though he’s not a natural winger, we need a natural lefty I think, Arshavin constantly cuts inside to where hes more comfortable. The opposing right back may as well have a kip for 90min.

Arsene needs to rethink his transfer policies. He has bought too many average players. Also, if Arsenal want to attract the best players the wage structure needs to change. Yes, they demand alot of money but its worth it. Hopefully players will jump at the chance to play with and learn from Henry while they can.

This input of mine is not going to be popular here at all but to be honest with you I am not overly bothered if we get him. However I still think we need a proven top class creative midfielder. This is the backbone of the style of football we play and we are like a man with a dis-functional spine. Henry did great yesterday but I did not see any clear chance created for Chamack. No creativity really; song again, our defensive mid is the one we had to call up on again to supply the pass to bail us out. We need a Fab. With proper creativity all our players are able to score this is what we have done season after season. By the way was it just me or was Ashavin brilliant cos I think he was like a bulldog in that game yesterday

Why does everyone seem to have this Podolski fetish? He is having one good season in I believe 5 years now. He isn’t that talented as a striker and his only saving grace is a strong build and ridiculously powerful left foot. Meanwhile Kalou scored 57 goals for Chelsea off the bench, loves Arsenal, and is only £3m pounds. Remember this guy named Thierry Henry, he was considered a huge flop at Juventus, I don’t think he flopped with us though. Why can’t people just learn to see value and good player instead of yammering on about how all we need to do is sign Podolski, Hazard, and Götze.

I’m a little skeptical of Kalou, but he does have potential to be quite useful to us. I’m sure Wenger can get the best of him anyways, Chelsea are quite horrible at reaching a player’s potential.
Also, according to Matias Suarez himself, he’s signed a pre-contract with Arsenal to come in the summer. Arsenal have full rights to back out of it, though, if he does not perform. I’m thinkin that if we can’t land Podolski in the summer, we’ve at least got Suarez. If RVP leaves, then we can go for both.

Kalou is a good player and would be a great addition to Arsenal. But Mr Wenger has Henry that his lot in this transfer window, unless he get’s a player on a free transfer
or a player on loan. This is Mr Wenger, ” SPEND MONEY YOU WANT ME TO SPEND MONEY” The poor Man and the shareholders would have a Heart attack if they had to spend money. So Forget about any Quality players been bought by ARSENAL.

If Kalou was good enough he would have cemented a place by now.
He would be playing on merit.
He would have deposed of the likes of Anelka, Sturridge, Drogba and Torres. He plays second fiddle, so can’t be considered good enough that’s despite his scoring record.
Worringly that makes him a prime Wenger target, cheap and unwanted.
