Arsenal legend says this is Wenger’s worst team – ever!

Posted on September 29, 2011 by admin

The former Arsenal captain Frank McLintock is a veteran of over 400 games for the North London club, and was one of the leading players (and captain) of his time back in the late 60′s and earlier 70′s. Today he has been speaking about his former club and he thinks that this is the worst team he has seen since Arsene Wenger has been in charge.

McLintock was speaking on radio station Talksport this morning and said, “When you look at the team overall at the moment, taking into account they’ve lost Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri and brought in four new players, are they going to do as well as last season or the seasons before? I honestly don’t think they will.”

He also said, “I think they’re poorer this year than they ever have been. I think it’s going to be the toughest season that Wenger’s ever had at Arsenal. There’s some part of Arsene Wenger that doesn’t address various faults that we’ve had over the years.”

McLintock continued his assessment of Arsenal by saying, “After watching Arsenal over the last few years they’ve always needed three really top players to become one of the best teams in the world. But they seem to have gone away from the players they had, to the squad they have now. I’m just getting frightened. The idea of finishing fourth would be an unbelievable achievement, but you took that as automatic in the last few years.”

McLintock may well be right, but no club has the divine right to finish in the top four do they? What is it with Ex Arsenal players these days, it seems they like nothing better than publicly airing their views rather than keeping them to themselves, or better still why don’t they speak privately to Arsene Wenger. He could do with all the help he can get right now.

Why do ex-players love having a go at arsenal? They have the right to talk about the team but ive only heard a few talk well about arsenal. This season is not over we have a decent team who need to gel. If we win at spurs they will change their tune

  6. Flavour says:

Ash you don’t know the history of this Club. Arsenal has been like this for over 125 years and this is why they are in the News all the time. For 14 years we have been in the CL even though we are not spending like Liverpool, Man UTD and later Chelsea and Man City.

The media try to create fear and the fans are buying it. For six years we started top and by every January we start nose diving. This year we have started from the bottom as ever foundation starts from the ground and not the roof. I think we are in a much better position this time.

Insanity is doing the same thing and wishing to get a different result but this year we are doing something different, something new and it is working

  7. oye says:

The point he makes is right, we will not be top 4 this season and it is a testament of Wenger’s ability as a manager that we did so last year. The game has evolved and with the new power brokers in the game, the Wenger route will no longer work. You must have proven players in your squad and you must have depth, we lack in both those areas.
Hoping that we will do well is just that hope, it is not based on reality. In reality we are clearer not as good as either of the teams from Manchester or Chelsea. That leaves one more spot, which we will have to fight like hell to get with the likes of Spurs and Liverpool. And there are quite a few more teams that will be in the mix. We barely beat nwely promoted managerless Swansea. We can’t be that good.

  8. dukeofarsenal says:

Only a few uplifting words can be heard from the ex players. Why not giving the team some encouraging support?.Do the ex players know how to manage with someone looking over your shoulder, yearly diminishing budget while other clubs showing off their money power, players going for the triple pay day cheque etc. Common on, the least we can do as fans or ex players give them some benefit of the doubt instead of deragoty comments that destroy the spirit of the team. If you don’t like then support Manure, Citeh, Spuds or Bluesy.

    Go Gunners 4 eva.

The lickers @ their very best.. As I said this blog has become a place where any criticism gets a wacko lambasting… either you praise the nutty AW or his antics or u r doomed…

Guess everybody has an opinion & to qualify it as an old man’s rant is a big joke, By the way I am not an old man :-)

There is merit in Frank’s comments – however the lens that we wear to percieve can ne different…

Just can’t understand why people like French Fries ( fckng isiots can’t post their real names also ) can’t take anything which is positive criticism…look at the whole article..It never sounds negative.,. it just points out the follies…

And I’m aghast – finishing 4th in PL now has been taken as a continuous achievement…

    Guess that’s where we lack – AMBITION…

And that’s the reason I hail people like Baz, Bergkamp,Ash9, Adam Kemp & many more like them who have the balls to set is straight & right….

Let’s knock out Spurs – It’s been a long time that we really have outplayed them..Sunday is the day…

    Dear Fans,

Please you need to put alot of pressure on Wenger and his selfish Board ie by refusing to attend matches in order to get senses into their heads.

Their main centre of interest is not to win the cups by strengthening the club ie by buying experienced players, but to buy young players and sell them at massive profit. Right now, 3 minors are being targeted. Who benefits from the profits made?.

McLintock is 100% right, actually Arsenal’s current squad is the worst of all Arsenal’s squad since Arsenal was started in 1886! In-fact if you compare the Arsenal of 2005 going backwards is the total opposite/vice-versa of the Arsenal of 2006 to present.Even if it is not possible for a big team like Arsenal to win trophies every year, but it should not be so long consecutively like Arsenal and Liverpool[6 and 5 years consecutive years/seasons trophiless respectively!].A team like Man-U since 1992 if it goes trophiless,it is usually just one season and then the following season it wins a trophy or trophies e.g in the 2004-05 season,Man-U went trophiless but in the following 2005-06,it won a trophy[Carling Cup].But not like Arsenal 6 consecutive years/seasons trophiless and to be honest before God there is a high possibility/ percentage of Arsenal going the 7th consecutive season trophiless! Arsenal, you must wake-up and do something reasonable to change this trend and shame otherwise for God’s sake you will continue going trophiless year in year out, season in season out!

  19. Youssef says:

OK, Why are people are saying all these bad things about Arsenal?
I mean, Since now, we played in 3 differents competitions:
    - Carling Cup: We goy through to the Next Stage (Well Done)
    - Champions League: We Got through to the pools by beating one of the Exciting teams in Italy (Well done) and then we managed to get a draw against Dortmund which in simply the german’s champions and then we won the game against Olympiacos (Again well done)
    - EPL: We are 13th in the table and we lost 3 games against Manchester (Logic since it was an away game even if the score was hard to accept, yes) and 2 bad reuslts against Liverpool and Blackburn.

So Overall, We are doing Well in Carling Cup and Champions League and We are in mid table in EPL with 9 points less than Manchesters.

Why The f**k are you screaming ????

Regarding the EPL, During the last 6 years we always started well and then we finished like a s**t, Now we can do the complete opposite and it’s more interesting to finish on a good point.

So shut up and let’s support our team. WE ARE IN A GOOD POSITION…

Everyone has the right to an opinion, we live in a democracy thank goodness. Does making public statements of the teams failings help the current team believe in themselves, I don’t think so.
This is exectly the place were fans should feel free to discuss thier opinions and how they feel.
EX professionals should have the balls to speak to AW face to face and offer their services should he want them.
Are we the finished article yet, definately not, however we now have some maturity and experience together with young players that actually want to play for the club and are excited about trying to win trophies.
When were are at the greatest stadium in the country we should give our support wholehartedly to try and help the players do their best, anything less is not going to help any of us get what we want.
I’m not suggesting we view things through rose tinted glasses because the truth will out in the end. But we do need to give this lot a chance. I believe Per could become another Adams, he wasn’t the quickest around but he could read the game. I remember the donkey chants that greated him when he started his career, happy days.
Lets all believe this team will get better because without believe there is no hope.

Stop talking about the team you had played before. For god sake rather than encouraging or supporting the team you had played before.

Give chance to these team and you all will see how good they are. Arteta is getting better and better. Whether your team looses or win you all Gunners should support your team with good times bad times.

These players were made good players by Arsene Wenger. Money hungry. Look at the attitude of the players who are being paid well towards the manager as well.

Stop talking about Arsenal Club One daythey will shock everybody and can assure that this team will get better and better.

Always will support the gunners good times bad times.

Let’s get real, the man is right. If you love your car and want to continue driving it, you service it now and then, buy new tyres when old ones are worn out and if like arsenal for 6years your car keeps on failing to take you to your desired destinations by breaking down endlessly, what do you do? Of course you checkout the problem and fix it, you don’t dismantle other working genuine parts and keep on selling them replacing them with pirated ones and hope that your car will do better! so where’s our beloved club heading to?
