Arsenal linked with French international midfielder as Mata deal peters out
After the tortuous rollercoaster of the On-Off transfer of Juan Mata to Arsenal, it seems that Valencia now seem certain that the Spanish midfielder will be staying in Spain for the forseeable future.
The Valencia boss Unai Emery made it clear that he believes Mata has decided to refuse a move to the Emirates. He said: “Mata has gone through a process of doubts about his future,”
“But now we all believe he will stay at Valencia.”
So now the latest rumours suggest that Arsene Wenger has now moved his interest to the French international midfielder Marvin Martin, who currently plays for Sochaux in Ligue 1. The 23 year-old has just recently been called up (in June) and made two appearances for the France national team, scoring twice on his debut against the Ukraine in a 4-1 win.
Sochaux are believed to have placed a price of 9m euros on his head, while L’Equipe believe that both Arsenal and Liverpool are willing to start the bidding at 7m.
Does anyone know anything about this interestingly-named youngster?

Why is it that all we hear are rumours? Is it so hard to buy players and let them settle well before the season starts? Why must Wenger go round in circles, pls buy 2 central defenders and a midfielder and let’s get on with the season. Mr Wenger, pls stop stalling on every player, the stakes are too high now, we can’t afford substandard players!

Please to be sincere arsenal is a great club,but mr wenger sundely change has to have meaning, something must be done quickly to avoid embarassment becz going six years trouphless is a bad run for arsenal, in my own sugestion the current board must be sacked. Let wenger buy big players like manuel juan mata,theo jassen,nyhmer,cissokho,benzema and a good goal keeper.

This will be the third time that I say this. “Arsene wenger will not buy any of the players that every one except him thinks are needed to significantly strengthen the squad”. The rumours will be around everyday but there will be NO arrivals of any serious players. May be only a defender but even then do not expect a defender in the mould of Gary Cahil. Think more of the Squilaci type! And soon enough the new season will kick off, the team will convincingly win or rescue matches by earning a draw in the opening 4 or 5 games and Arsene will brag about how the squad is ready to deliver. Then before you know it the transfer window will slam shut and the usual crapy statements will follow. Arsene will say shit like ” We tried to bring in reinforcements but the transfer market was too distorted and the fees were unrealistic, we could not identify any players who are better than what we already have here, we have Ramsey and Frimpong back from injury and how they will be like new signings, We have RVP who is now fit from the start of the season, and people forget how young these players are but he has faith in them and how we will be a bit lucky with injuries Blah blah blah …..!
I have repeatedly seen this shit for 5 seasons and each time i was fooled by hope. I am still a fan but my expectations of this team are now more realistic and in line with the ambitions of the Arsenal Board and their clown manager. At least i will no longer let me be fooled that we are a big club. Big clubs are judged by their ability to maintain competitive squads through first attracting the best players and managers and secondly keeping those players at the club thereby delivering results at the end of a competitive season. Arsenal were a big club when we could bring those players to the club and keep them there. The likes of Bergkamp, Henry, Pires, Campbell, kanu, Lauren, Cole, Adams, Vieira and we had a different Wenger driven by the motive to make his managerial career a success as opposed to aiming to be a role model for good business practices! We also had David Dein whose contribution to bringing those players was well known.
Now all we have is a bunch of greedy fellas who make decisions they are aware can not bring real success through trophies but continue to lie to the fans about it. So those of you expecting Arsene to sign players like Juan Mata, Eden Harzard, Karim Benzema, Gary Cahil, Per Metaserker, Samba or Leighton Baines; PLEASE, PLEASE, This is your wake up call. STOP DREAMING! It hasn’t happened in 6 seasons and this season will not be it!!!

I think he will be a good buy for Arsenal, if Wenger will. He is pacy, strong and got skills and eyes for goal. For a (french) young player at his age (23) and for that price (7m), Wenger has no reason not to buy him and even more experience players. Cos we want trophies.

That would be a nice add to our squad. Martin had 18 assists last year with Sochaux. I really enjoyed watching him. He is a player type of Xavi. Small, with pace and excellent passing abilities. Maybe he is not strong enough for PL.

haha no one paid me mate, im not that sort of person either, but I do have faith in the man you broguht tons of success to this club, won the double (when it was harder to do) brought us one of the best european strikers in Henry, and Bergkamp, brought us one of the best playmakers in cesc, went 49 games unbeated etc.
I know our team then was 10x better than it is now and im not denying that, neither am I denying the fact that I think we need to sign some players but for god sake give the man time, hes had bids rejected for players and he will be negotiating with people atm, if the transfer window had shut then I would say fair enough but it hasnt, hes still got just under a month to sign some people, chances are hes waiting for Cesc to go so he can use that money, I reckon he will leave next week if not sooner, then im sure he will sign some players, just give him time, hes one of the best managers in football history, let me ask you this, if you sacked him who would you get to replace him that would still maintain that level of quality football and finish that high in the table each season? if he goes we will no longer bring through players like cesc but will go out and spend ridiculous ammounts on players who arnt even as good.
The only man who could replace him and do exactly the same but also would be willing to spend a bit more is Guardiola and we wont get him.
Just give him until the end of the transfer window and then if he aint signed anyone fair enough.
its easy to point out players making mistakes, what about last year when Van Der Sar dropped that ball and cost United the game? I dont seem to recall them saying, right lets get another keeper in lol players make mistakes, they are human, Schesney is a good enough keeper, I admit there are some terrible players in our squad but you cant go out and sign tons of players just because one of them made a mistake lol

Wenger identifies his targets and its the boards responsibility to get him the players just like david gill does for man u and other chief execs does for other club and david dein did before he was kicked out the club because he wanted an abromavic style takeover for arsenal. wenger is a great coach no doubt and truth is the modern day gun slinging transfer rules are crippling him. Ridiculous prices for players with a year left on their cards is callous. But then talents abound everywhere. I just wish he would bring in a sturdy young chap to stand in for koscielny and vermaelen and not another ‘squillaci’ or ‘silvestre’

You say Wenger has had bids for players rejected and he’s probably waiting to sell Cesc so he can use the money for other players. Why should he wait for the Cesc money when a few months ago Wenger himself said that there was money available to spend and that that he would definately bring in some experienced players. He actually said that he would do everything to keep cesc at the club. so what Fabregas money are you talking about?

Wenger will “NOT” buy over priced players that are average,teams outside the top 5 are being clever and asking way too much…do i think that Cahill is worth 15m or 17m NO !! do i think that Jagielka is 15m NO !! so what happens….teams look elsewhere around Europe and English teams end up being foreign or at least 90% of the team. Wenger “WON’T” spend more that what he thinks a player is worth, if that’s the case then we could price Fabregas at 50m easy !! he’s one of the most well known players in the world, or you think that messi would go for 40m? are you having a laugh?!! Barcelona wouldn’t let him go unless a rival team came up with a 80m or 100m offer…football is a business and i would rather spend on good players that will want to stay in the club and not win anything than end up spending a lot of money like a disgussting team i know called Manchester city that spends a lot of money insted and don’t give a chance to the players in the academy. Arsenal is a good team that leads a good example of football the way it should be and also teams like Villareal in Spain that do the same.

Hahaha at people defending Wenger.
His team have had the same defensive weakness for at least three years. Why has this not been resolved? New players or not, why has Arsene not addressed this issue yet? There should have been some improvement in this area rather than terminal decline!
Having the same issue recurring season after season is unacceptable for any EPL manager let alone someone who is managing a club the stature of Arsenal.
I don’t care if there are new signings or not. What I want is a resolution to the problem of Arsenals defensive weaknesses. One defender aside, Wenger should at least be able to improve on last season however his track record suggests he will not.
Secondly, how anyone can defend him underestimating the intelligence of fans is beyond me. Time after time he will make excuses/give explanations that have no bearing on reality. My favorite was when he told us Arsenal have the best defensive record from open play – no s*** sherlock……that’s because your team concedes through set pieces……-instead of telling everyone what they know how about you actually fix the problem through perhaps coaching (your real job) instead of spending all your time making excuses.

TingozAFgooner you are so damm spot on. And did you hear Arsene’s response to the Emirates cup loss? He said and I quote” Its not the results that matter”!! I still cant believe that statement. All you guys who still say you believe in Venger, you are all mad like him. This is the difference between Alex and Arsene and Arsene will never earn that title “sir” No guessing who has the decisive punch between the two. How can results not matter? This is why we are trophiless because in that statement Arsene confirmed all our fears. For him and his board its the money not the football results!! We can forget this team as long as this mad man is allowed to continue in this role.
Some guys here continue to harp on the squad of Henry, Viera etc. But the question you all ignore is who was David Dein and what was his role? Was it really Arsene’s team. Can this man really make a team? Will Fabregas play his normal game even if he stays? Will Nasri play. This team is so rotten let the season begin and transfer window close and you will all see. I am a fan but right now I am hating myself!!

Martin would be a good buy at least a quality sub because we don’t ve ‘em and 9m euros not bad.We need to address our defending,we ve not been able to solve this for 2-3 seasons since toure and gallas left.Wenger needs to buy cos the only okay central defenders we have are Verm and Kolcieny.I somehow think wenger will buy this last weeks,hope am right.
