Arsenal linked with prolific South American striker
It has been reported this morning that the German newspaper Bild has revealed that Arsenal have been making enquiries about the Paraguayan international striker Lucas Barrios, who is currently playing at the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.
The 27 year-old has excellent goalscoring stats in the last few years, having netted 49 goals in just 53 games for the Chilean club Colo-Colo before being snapped up by Dortmund in 2009.
He helped the club with the Bundesliga last season and his current record reads 35 goals in 75 appearances for the German side, but he has fallen out of favour with the management this season and is now looking to to move on, with rumours saying that Dortmund are willing to accept just 10m euros to get him off their books.
He is also an experienced international totting up 6 goals in 21 games for Paraguay, and his availability has reportedly alerted Arsenal, Man City and Sunderland according to Bild, and his height of 6ft 2in could certainly help him cope with Premiership defenders.
Barrios fits in Arsene Wenger’s price bracket and if Arsenal can bring him over to England he could be an able deputy for Robin Van Persie…..

this i can beleive as it is a typical wenger signing (price wise). but thanks to the media puting the slightest bit of attention to him we will not sign him. u people should have learnt by now surely: EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED.

What about tevez. We could get him cheap and he is one of the best strikers in the world. Would also like to see hazard and vertongen

why not signing world class proven strickers the likes of Pato or Podolski or whoever else in that quality?? We all saw what Benzema did against Barcelona. That is the type of stricker we want not Rejections from other clubs.

We are 2 quality signings away from having a very good first 11 (once the injuries are back as well). Hazard and barrios or /padolski. Can’t see AW doing it tho!

Another rumor, great. I can’t see Wenger buying anybody and that’s soooo frustrating since we obviously need 1 or 2 quality players. I am being realistic, we’re not gonna spend 30 or 35 Mil on one player but you don’t have to spend that much to get a good player that would add quality to our team. What we’re lacking the most is creativity in the midfield. It has become painful to watch us play because we simply can’t create much in the final third. Last year we had 3 great players in the midfield (Fab, Nasri and Wilshere) With Jack being injured, we have none at the moment and if it wasn’t for Van Persie having a career year so far, we would be in the middle of the table. I just hope that Wenger understands this and the only reason why he is not buying anybody is because funds are not available to him. But if he does have money to spend then God help us all and it is time for him to leave the club. He has done great things for Arsenal but his unwillingness to change his ways a little, could be a disaster in years to come. We could become just like Liverpool, finishing 5th or 6th. I personally think that with our current team, we will NOT finish top 4 (pains me to say) and Van Persie will leave in the summer because of that. Let’s hope I’m wrong. His loyalty can only go so far. Why would he sign for half the money with no champions league and no real chance to win any trophies? Mr. Wenger, it’s time for you to do something!
Go Arsenal!

Here we go again! Another transfer rumour but until AW signs a player i wont stress myself with putting up my wish list. We do not need to reinvent the whole club but Arsenal just needs 2 or 3 quality players to make sure we can push for the title or a top 4 finish.

I’m not sure if the teams will buy the usual take-it-or-leave-it offer at the end of the transfer window, sure wenger will send some offers, problem is don’t know who and don’t know if the offers would be heard.
We definitely need signings, thus far is better to just expect the worse. That way is easier to get a little bit of joy in this detrimental situation

I`ve just watched the United game for the second time so that I could pay more attention to individuals. The ones that disappointed were Walcott, Ramsey, Djourou, RVP and (for time he was on) Asharvin,he was all at sea. The other face of inspiration that caught my eye was that of Pat Rice, does he talk? No doubt in my mind that Wenger committed suicide taking Ox-C off and no amount of excuses can be acceptable.

Jack,it was a.bad decision, but there is no way known anyone can say it cost us the game…that’s just crap.
Bad shooting cost us more than AA,bad defending anything else you can dream up.

Well with Djourou, mistake is always waiting to happen. I don’t know what happened to Walcott, he had such a promising start to his career but now in most games he is below average. Ramsey has lost a step since his injury and that is too bad but he’s just not good enough right now. I hope he regains his form but in most games he is below par and he just doesn’t have that creativity that’s needed in the middle.

@Nigerian Gun the answer is shirt sales. I’d just like to see Arsene sign a striker who has a record of scoring goals and costs more than 3m. Park and Chamakh certainly weren’t ever up to the required standard. Strikers are typically the most expensive players to buy yet Arsene thinks he get a world class one on the cheap.

Im really getting pissed reading all these reports of Arsenal being linked to one player or the other. What is the freaking point in spotting players and opposition and up taking them away for a good price. What happened to Mata? We were salivating to have a talent in the team but what happened? Chelsea snapped him up. With the exclusion of just a few players, Arsenal stinks of average players and average players cant take you no where. The only and obvious reason why we lose matches to lowly teams like Fulham is becos our players are not any better than they are. Its about time we get our priorities right, sell the unproductive player and buy players that can provide quality. Its certainly not hard for Mr. Kroenke and Wenger to decipher. Certainly not.

All you sayin we want podolski, Hazard all these players but Barrios has got pace is good in the air and scores goals. Until we got Usmanov in charge big signings will not come. I would welcome Barrios with open arms coz lets face it hes quality and about 10 times the player chamakh / Arshavin are.

@Tom: ’nuff said.
I would also favour Podolski over Barrios, for two reasons:
1) Barrios is not at the same level as Van Persie and so could never fill his boots. No matter how cheap he is, he’s not fit to play for Arsenal.
2) Barrios is a striker and that’s it. Podolski can alternate between the left wing and the middle, so he’s much alike Van Persie. He could double for Gervinho, which I think is a useful option, given that Arshavin will leave the club in the summer.

I think we should sign 2. theres a decent name out there going cheap called shinpad ankleguard. Way worth investing in. Also going for free at the moment is cejones (balls.nuts are nick names). Now if wenger and the board dont get these two in we really are fkd

I would prefer Matias Suarez or Podolski. Both of those players are versatile to play any attacking position.

Barrios, though not people’s favourite, is a prolific goal getter than the long list of so called strikers arsenal has at the moment. He was on the score sheet on many occasions for Dortmund last season which made the club to win the league. So, he is welcome to Fly high with us at Emirates.

This is excellent news. This will take Wengers striker flops to a total of 3 leaving Wenger with still just the one good striker. That would be true strength in depth under Arsene Wengers current policy of buying rubbish strikers just because they are cheap.
