Arsenal linked with young Serie A striker
There are very many stories appearing linking Arsenal with yet another striker, despite the near certainty of Marouane Chamakh arriving from Bordeaux in the summer.
This time at least it is a very promising young starlet from Palermo, called Abel Hernandez, who has scored four goals in 16 appearances for the Serie A side. That may not sound like a lot, but they have all been from the substitutes bench, and he has actually only played the equivalent of four games. For a 19 year-old that is pretty good going at such a level.
He is originally from Uruguay, and played for his country at the U21 World Cup last year, and even scored against the eventual winners Ghana, so he is obviously promising at all levels.
Although this rumour has been repeated all over the media, none of the reports have any quotes from either the player or his agent, so we have no reason to think there is any basis in fact!
And having searched around for evidence, I have found a quote from his agent, Vincenzo D’Ippolito, which seems to imply that Hernandez won’t be leaving Palermo at any time in the near future.
He said: “Abel has been tied down. He is an important player for Palermo and their directors think he can make history with the club.”
“I am very happy for the lad and I want to thank Palermo for giving him the chance to show his qualities,” continued D’Ippolito.
“The skills he has are hardly comparable to any other striker in the world and his goals per minute ratio since he joined Palermo proves that.”
So I think we can happily ignore this rumour completely!
