Arsenal make derisory opening bid for Gary Cahill
It is being reported this morning that Arsene Wenger has given up hope of signing Phil Jagielka from Everton and has finally decided to pitch in with an opening bid for Bolton’s Gary Cahill.
The Mirror reckons that Wenger has valued Cahill at just £6million as the big defender only has one year left on his contract, and like Marouane Chamakh a couple of years ago, Wenger thinks that Bolton’s 17m price-tag is unrealistic when he could join Arsenal for free next summer.
Wenger is famous for making small offers for players to test the reactions of the selling clubs, but the Mirror says that Bolton have dismissed it out of hand, and claim that Reebok insiders think that Wenger is “taking the mickey”.
Blackburn have refused to sanction a move for Christopher Samba and David Moyes has refused to sell Wenger’s first choice, Phil Jagielka, which leaves Cahill as the most experienced Premier League centre-back on the market. Owen Coyle has made no secret of the fact that he would be willing to let Cahill move to Arsenal, but only if the deal is good for both Bolton and the player himself.
Obviously £6million doesn’t come into that category and Wenger would probably have to at least double that price before Bolton would even begin talks…….

I think £9/10 million plus Squillaci would be a fairer deal, would help balance the wage-book too, if we are to believe that this is a summer-long problem with the board.

Lol its a bit late to be testing the clubs with tiny offers, but Wenger knows what he’s doing, he’s working hard, gunners all over the world patiently await the results

Coyle wants Miquel on loan. Might have to pay them more to take Squillaci of our hands. Why not 10 million + Miquel on a year loan deal? Or hell they might actually want Bendtner if they can afford his wages. So try 6 mill + Bendtner + Miquel(loan) for Cahill.

Wenger has started again to under value players. I no he doesn’t want to sign, bidding £6m is his stratagy not to sign so that at the end of the day he will say that he wanted to sign. He sells big and doesn’t want to pay.

Just tell Cahill’s club, manager and fans that in its blood to play for Arsenal, and they must let him return home, also force an Arsenal shirt on him. Then get all our players and manager to tell the press cahill wants to play for us….that way theyl be forced to sell, and for cheap! That’s the way transfers are done nowdays, however here at Arsenal we respect other players and clubs

Bendtner and Miquel give us options that are not available elsewhere in the team. Bendtner is our most direct CF with power and height to get to all the crosses from the wings. Perfect foil for RVP since we chose to sell Uglybador.
Miquel is more mobile and intelligent than Djourou we can rotate him with Kol and TV5 and he will be a great player for us in the second half of the season or even play him DM occasionally
Send Fabianski out on loan and put Vito as second option. I think he is as good as Sczz and needs some time on the pitch. Fab needs to play first team to get back to his best after the injuries last season and he wont have nearly enuff opport with Sczz in the form he is in.

The fact of the matter is, with the injury to Koscielny, we need a center back before the end of the transfer window. Miquel didn’t look too solid, and won’t be able to play against top clubs like Man U, Man City etc. Mr Wenger, there is no time left in the window to make low opening bids for players who we need. We would have been able to bargain (like you are doing now), if we had started negotiations earlier. Just bid 13M + Squillaci as an opening bid. Thats more like a good opening bid, considering the time we have left in the window

i think miquel on loan and 10 mill for cahill would be a great deal for both clubs. Bolton do good things for loanees take wilshire 2 years ago. He came out a man after playing plenty of games and i think miquel could do the same. do it and concentrate on a creative midfield player to feed walcott, gervinho and van persie and get wilshire back and diaby and we will be fine this year. Get united game out of the way get players back and then chase them in the league from then on

Let’s be realistic. Cahill has 1 year left so why would we offer 10-12 mil and then next year extend his contract for another 18. I want him dont get me wrong but is he worth 30 mil? Also these Arsenal fans should be spit on. Adebeyor was loved by us…until he wanted to move on. Nasri was loved by us…until he wanted to move on.
Fabregas was loved by us…until he wanted to move on. Look who has stuck with us verm, vanpersie, sagna, etc. But most importantly Bendtner has even after all the crap he gets. He is not as terrible as these so called “fans” say he is. He scored a hat trick in a champions league match, enough said.

Quality is there in the squad. The only thing missing is steel and xperience in all areas. I would opt 4 Samba and Parker, then Bellamy on loan as AOC, Benik and Miyaichi come of age. Just wishful thinking.

I agree with this, Bendtner. He’s loyal to the club (as scandinavians usually are in the BPL) and genuinely wants to play for Arsenal.
I really rate him too. Once he gets a run of games he’ll come through. He’s in a perfect age now and he will only become a better player. Sell him and he’ll come back to haunt us, guaranteed.
1. RvP – 2. Bendtner – 3. Chamakh – 4. Youngsters (the CF role doesn’t need reinforcements imo)

It’s called good business. Cahill has a year to run on his contract. Coyle knows Cahill won’t sign an extension with all the big clubs after him. And there is no way anyone would pay over the odds for him during the Jan transfer window when he could be gotten for free in 6months time. So I reckon Bolton is DESPERATE to get something for him otherwise they’ll lose him for absolutely nothing. Wenger knows this very well. He’s just up to his old tricks again.

AW will want to do the deal at around $10m, about the same price as VM as I don’t think AW rates him higher than VM. So we’ll just have to wait for the negotiation to pan out.

if cahill knows whats good for him he will join arsenal asap and get champions league experience, or he will risk being left behind by the young up and coming cb smallings and jones will get champ league experience before he does and will improve as aresult leaving his eng position in doubt the reason man u didn’t buy him is because bolton’s asking price is too high all things considering, fergie is most likely waiting till jan to get him for free or cheaper.
arsene should do the same. cahill should hurry up before it too late chelsea don’t need him yet neither does man c and man u but arsenal do, he is sure to be a regular at arsenal and get champ league. i think 8 mil is a fair price for cahill since his contract is about to expire. paying over priced asking fee is not cool no matter how desperate you need a player.

Wrong! Wenger does not make bids for anyone. He does not have the authority to do so. He cannot sanction any purchases for the club beyond his stationery budget. AFC have senior officers that deal with transfers.
Check your facts before making such nonsensical facts. I’m far from his biggest fan but at least we should stick to criticising him for things HE is responsible for.

Transfer period is an investment window and any serious investor will aim at solidifying the strong portfolios availabe. The basic principles in investment is that the higher the risk the higher the expected returns. Similarly, wenger should take the risk on investing on additional players as every gooner is suggesting, time is of essence and that time is now. Otherwise let us not lament at the end of the season if our performance will be below bar as this will be commensurate with the investment level.

qualifying to champions league group stages has cheated wenger that he has a team to contest both domestic and international leagues .he’s wrong if he cant sign know then let him consider it seven years in a row with nothing. the transfer window is open to even fans who can follow the likes of nasri, clichy among others

He wants to leave because he doesn’t get played too often. It’s not like he’s going for greener grass (like Nasri and all the other moneygrabbers)
When you are 23; when you start peaking and are not playing it’s easy to understand that he gets frustrated and wants to leave.
I view him as the next Zlatan, probably personality wise aswell, but that doesn’t make him a bad player.

Paying 17m for a defender who wont be a starter and is on his last year of his contract would be the stupidest move Arsenal have made in their history. People saying “but we sold Nasri for 25m” are plain brain dead. Nasri will be one of the top 5 players in the world this year. Cahill will never be in the top 5 DEFENDERS in the world…

At the rate our defenders hits the injury table, he’ll definately be a starter.
And even with a full fit squad I think he would be a starter alongside Vermaelen aswell.

Wenger puts proposals to the board and lets the money men do the rest. Wenger has a value then they get to work. They work off that.
Anyway, what is rather strange about a reported 6m bid is that Nasri had 12 months and we got 25m. Cahill is worth 12-17 at that rate. Nasri isnt a world class player. He came good of late, Cahill has more substance behind his form. So we cant offer pathetic money to get a good player.
Clichy was a liability so 7m was a good piece of business.
If we could get 10m for Bendtner that would be like winning the Carling Cup Cup. 10m for Chamakh would be like winning the FA Cup. 7.5m for Denilson that would be like winning the league. and 5 for Squillaci would be like winning the Champions league.

seems to me like a very very clever move! we are testing coyles patience because as everybody knows, cahill only has one year left on his contract therefore leaving it late and bidding little money to force coyle to sell because coyle doesnt want him going for free. i know £6 million is very little for cahill, but i can see him coming to us for as little as £8-10 million!

As a bolton fan im realy annoyed at this. Yes he has a year left, but to be honest, for 6 mil, id just keep him for the year and let him go for free after the season. Its an insult. An insult to Cahil and Bolton.
Im not saying Bolton should get the 17 mil they think hes worth (which he might be worth if in a longer contract) but he is atleast worth 11-13 mil, were talking England defender, young, prem experience, and were tolking about a club who have 60+ mil to spend against a club who’s entire roster costs about 20 mil.

I’m not saying Koscielny is a bad player, because he isn’t. But he bears much resemblance to Vermaelen (not that that’s necessarily a bad thing, but why would you have two Puyol’s if you could have Puyol+Pique, if you get my drift?) plus Koscielny needs to bulk up a little.
Simply, Cahill; a typical english defender brings other qualities into the backline than Koscielny.
We’ll see when the transfer go through (hopefully it will) that Cahill will take his spot.

I’m trying to support my team and be hopeful, but really waiting till the last 6 days to sign a defender…I mean we have had a defensive problem for two seasons now. Wenger has no excuse, he waited way too long and now he offers peanuts in dire straits. He needs to offer at least 10-12m if he expects to sign a defender before the transfer window closes.
Also we need a clinical finisher, I’m sorry but RVP is the only decent striker we have…all Bendtner has going for him is his height. We need a Rooney/Drogba. Wenger please fork out the cash and save us this season. You might even get to keep your job as I doubt you will have the same amount of loyalty we are giving now, by the end of next season if we come nowhere.
Let’s see what happens in the next few days. I really hope Wenger has something up his sleeve.

6M for Cahill this must show the Arsenal Fan’s that Mr Wenger
has No intention of buying anyone. He will give his speech
about how he tried to sign new players but it’s not easy.
What a load of XXXX he knew Nas/Fab were going and what the Arsenal needed and he done nothing now he comes along at last stage of the Transfer Window and makes a unrealistic offer for Cahill. Mr Wenger is taken the Mickey not out of Bolton but the ARSENAL FAN’S. He is the only Manager who seems to have a problem buying players. Quality Players don’t want to come to Arsenal because of his penny pinching
and don’t give me it’s the Board,it’s him.He has reduced Arsenal to an ALSO RAN TEAM.
