Arsenal need a playmaker as backup for Ramsey in January
Aaron Ramsey has been a prominent figure for Arsenal this season. With a staggering 12 appearances already in the Premier League (out of 13 matches), he has proven to be the key creative force in midfield. Providing a good haul of 1 goal and 4 assists so far in the league, his incisive passes and general usage of the ball has been invaluable to Arsenal’s cause this season.
As part of the midfield trio of Mikel Arteta, Alex Song and himself, it is worrying though that he does not in fact have a replacement on the Arsenal bench. While Arteta can always rely on Abou Diaby, Tomas Rosicky and at times Yossi Benayoun to replace him when he is injured and Song can fall back on the help from Francis Coquelin and Emmanuel Frimpong, there remains no “straight swap” player for Ramsey off the bench.
In terms of being the playmaker, the closest player there is to Ramsey’s calibre of controlling the attacking intent of the team is Jack Wilshere. Wilshere is of course due to return in late January, but you never know what could happen to Ramsey or even Wilshere himself in the time till then.
Rosicky is the only player available to try and fulfill Ramsey’s role at the moment, but in recent matches, he has been unable to provide the spark really needed to win matches and he is injured more than often.
As such, Arsene Wenger will have to sign a proper backup player for Ramsey if Arsenal are to successfully move ahead in the Premier League and other Cup competitions. A team like Arsenal aiming to play a possession game is toothless without a playmaker like Ramsey, and ever since the departure of Fabregas and the injury of Wilshere, there is a pressing need to sign a player who can really “mix it up” in midfield. Hopefully Arsenal will find that player in the winter transfer window.

The question seems to be who is should be between Hazard and Gotze. I would prefer Gotze. Assuming that we do get him and that we have a fully fit squad. We would have Gotze, Wilshere, Song and Ramsey competing for the 3 central midfield slots. Can’t see Wilshere or Song dropping to the bench. Hence signing Gotze could hinder with Ramsey’s progress at the club. And knowing Wenger(as he is) he would probably not sign Gotze. Leaving Hazard as an option. But a huge transfer fee and wage demands would probably bring an end to that as well. At the end of the day I cant see either of these two ending up at the Emirates in the near future. Hope i’m wrong though.

Yossi Benayoun is the replacement. To be honest he’s actually a brilliant passer of the ball and looks like he can unlock doors with his ball skills. Just look when he linked up with Torres and Gerrard at Liverpool……….

Ramsey is a really usefull player, but i don’t think he should be played as the only creative force. He has the touch indeed but not the vision, and he really needs to improve that if we want to break down a solid defense.

it would be nice to have a new signing in january but rosicky can definitely take that role without a problem. he may not be as fast or physical but his vision is amazing

we hv enough dfensive n centre midfield. song,arteta,frimpong,coquelin,diaby,
wilshere,ramsey,rosicky i think more prefered as centre minded.we need box to box atacking mid,creative playmaker.we lack that spark..who is the answer to that? ‘mario goetze i knw hes the one.we lose out on matta.please wengie dnt let out of this one.

I think all we need in Jan is a back-up for RVP. I think we have the mid-field covered. Yossi and Rosicky can cover for Ramsey. I also reckon the Coq could play this role, and lets not forget it’s Arshavins more natural role. So we have plenty cover then we should have Jack back in in Jan.
Depending how the injuries are looking it might be worth getting some defensive cover on loan aswell, though of course we do have Song who was very adept in the CB role last year when he played there (and we have the cover for defensive mid).

I agree, we should bolster the attacking mid position. But I think it’s essential that we get a mid who can play on the wing as well, esp. on the left. That’s why I give my vote to Douglas-Costa, Jovetic, or Marco Reus. Another Striker and cover for the full backs still takes priority over an AM though.

Place Arshavin at CAM. At 30 he’s usless out on the wings and we already have Theo, Gervinho, O.A.C,. His value is in the midfield. Arsene for reason is binded to the fact the Arshavin should play LW only. If he’s not going to do this then buy Gourcuff.

so coquelin n frimpong n lansbury wil b the third option n wil find it hard to break into the first team.with diaby as the backup for song,n sometimes coquelin r frimpong.lansbury wil find it even hard bt they’re impresive.they shud b use in carling cup and fa cup.the senior focus in the two othr big cup.wenger shud plan hes strategy n tell the player they wud hv their chances.mkes them stay happy.n loves the club like wilshere does.n wait fir their own chances

don’t disagree but I believe Arshavin can create, shoot and be more flexible rather than pushing him as a winger……..

I agree, rosicky and yossi aren’t good enough for arsenal not Even as back up. However the youngster in a years time they can be suitable back ups. He’s progressing well, he needs a better partner than arteta to continue progressing. He’s better than fabregas was at age 20. Once wilshere comes back the whole team will improve not just Ramsey

i agree LEVI , arshavin would be awesome in midfield but hes too lazy and doesnt track back and do his defensive duties , and at the moment wenger and the team have put hard word into trying to sort out defensive problems but that can only be done as a team, because we attack as a team and play some of the best football in the world not just now and again but every game we play , we are prone to counters and players out of position and arshavin doesnt cut our midfield right now , ramsey has been outstanding all season and come into the team when its been at its lowest in morale , confidence and under huge pressure. i just hope wenger goes out and buy some of these players we have been linked with recently ,like MARIO GOTZE OR EDEN HAZARD …. somebody because the midfield is not at its best quality wise but arteta song and ramsey are world class and with wilshere on the way back hopefully we will not be under so much uncertanty……

@raghav Wenger is now more interested in Gotze now, he tried to get get both players last year but Gotze is cheaper,younger and all round better. He’d fit into the midfield with Wilshere perfectly. That partnership is better than Xavi and Iniesta

@Vin I agree. Although Ramsey has touches of brilliance, he is too inconsistent…at times he looks a bit clumsy. I heard Inter will be making a bid for him come Jan. Sell him and Arshavin (a lazy player is a useless player) Anzi offered 25m for him, spend the 3om Dortmund want for the 19 year old wizard Goetze, and also fork out the cash for Sow.

I wonder why people talk about Diaby,Rosicky,Ashavin and Benayoun.The last three are worn out and cannot compete at the level we want.Diaby’s contribution has been below par,injury not helping him at all and who says he will always be free.He is not reliable,bad temperament and some awful passes.Wilsher is a world class and committed,Ramsey is improving but not there yet and so we need that competition in the midfield like when Fab was there.Gotze is the excellent replacement and it will do us good to get him now before it is too late.

I prefer Reus the kid has killer instincts! He has scored more dreamgoals during half a season than Götze and Hazard will ever do in their entire careers!

we need to think logically. i don’t like reading silly and stupid comments from my favourite team’s fans. someone said we should sell ramsey and pay 5 million, that is stupid. why would we sell someone who is improving.when wilshere come back he won’t be at his best form, he will need a couple of weeks. in those couple of weeks we have got around 7 matches, and we cannot play a half injured player. hazard was a very exciting signing, coz he is versatile. but he is too expensive so lets think logically.we only need gotze.

I don’t think we need some more players. Cos we have diaby, benayoun, rosicky and don’t forget we also have promising younger stars who are ready to spark in coquelin,frimpong and AOX. See how they outclassed M/city most expensive, experienced and world class player recently only denied by fate or bad luck. BTW I think we really need one more world class striker to be scoring machine in the absence of van Persie. And im welcoming Podolski for this position. Arsenal now back to elite and interesting club in England by looking at current performance. Promising youngsters and world class players are eager to come to Arsenal now to groom their skill n chase for glory. Coz Arsenal in a very gud shape n clubs like Barca, chelsi o Mancity have no room for them except to sit on the bench and get luxurious pay.Only time will determine.

@anxiousgooner we have the best striker in the world at the moment, and we are only playing with one striker at the moment. I don’t think it’s possible to get a world class back-up striker. But I do think that we should offload chamakh and buy a striker that can compete with RVP in the long run (and should be able to preform right now aswell).

I don’t understand all the hatred of Rosicky. Am I the only one who thinks he’s put in some solid performances at times this season? It looks like jhe’s really worked on his defensive game, and I’ve been particularly impressed with some of his tackling. Why is it that our fans always have to single out one player and blame them for everything that goes wrong? It doesn’t seem to happen with other teams. Show some support!

I think we should play some of our players like Rosicky and Benayoun more. When you have a big squad it’s better to use that to good effect. Let players some reasonable time in the middle to show what they can do. Rosicky is a great player but still I cannot understand why he is starting from the bench or not playing at all. I know that the injuries are a big concern but still he is a great player and so is benayoun. We have resources and we should use them. At the moment we are playing really well but still it is better to give other non regular players good playing time.
