Arsenal need Santos back ASAP!
On deadline day in the latest summer transfer, Arsenal agreed a fee of 6.2 million pounds to bring the first choice Brazilian left back, Andre Santos, to the club from an unwilling Fenerbache. Since then, Santos has impressed both the manager and the fans in his left full back position for the team. Supporting the attack with his brilliant dribbling ability and technique while backing up our rather shaky defence with good tracking back and tight marking, Santos can be said to be one of Arsenal’s most prized possession amongst our immense amount of talent in the squad.
Recently, Santos was injured in our Champions League trip to Greece where we lost the ball game 3 goals to 1 while facing Olympiakos. That meant that Arsenal have lost the only fit full back in the first team to injury and that could be rather costly.
Watching Saturday’s match against Everton where Arsenal was able to come out on top 1-0. Vermaelen did a pretty decent job covering for Santos at left back, shutting out Seamus Coleman and preventing potential dangerous crosses to the penalty area where it can threaten the team.
However, Vermaelen lacks the offensive edge on the left side. He rarely threatened and did not put in any crosses for the team. Thus, we could clearly see how much we actually miss Santos. Also, Santos is a Brazilian. Thus his attacking ‘samba’ style of football would actually add a different dimension to our already deadly attack and would certainly propel the team in our push for major honours.
Arsenal have had really different outcomes with Brazilian players. From Sylvinho and Gilberto to players like Denilson. Hopefully Santos can really shine as an Arsenal player in years to come.
Meanwhile, lets just hope he returns soon as he is such an essential piece to our team right now.

Spot on…he has skill and above all confidence that spreads to all around. Not the quickest but I have seen him make many timely interceptions with his experience coming to the for. A converted winger he has an eye for the goal. Smudger Smith seems unecessarily concerned regarding his lack of pace and being exposed. Not a great worry as Vermaalen covers really well allowing Santos to contribute in many other ways.

Get well soon Santos! We need you back in the team to fill the LB spot! Great dribbling skills, attacking and defending work rate is superb too. We need you back to produce crosses and support wing attacks! And give us a little bit of samba dance when you return! Gunner 4 life!

Personally I have grown to like the guy and his style of play, which was badly missed on Saturday. He doesnt only provide good crosses but has an eye for goal. I think he does not get enough credit for the defensive part of his game. Overall I’m happy with his performance and still expect more from him when he returns.

Santos did a brilliant job on the left side defence. Give different dimension on the ball and the best of all he can score goal. That is really imporant right now. Rarely left back score goal.

I like Santos…he is good at closing players and he makes me laugh. For a defender he looks like an attacker, but that is simply his Brazilian blood.

we missed him big time against everton , his passing and bursting run are awesome ancd have added a new dimention to our team that we have missed for a long time. we need him back asap , as i think he has been influential to us since hes come in and will only get better …

Am I the only who thinks Man City is overrated? We can win the game if we dominate the midfield and i believe we can do so. Man City are only on top because they can beat up on the smaller teams but struggle against quality opponents.

did none of you see the game against chelsea? i was at the game and was undercover in the home section so santos was playing right in front of us in the first half. he put in one of the most inept performances i’ve ever seen by a fullback. he was dreadfully slow, out of position and looked lazy. Mata was running rings around him like he was playing against his grandfather. he’s a good attacking player but he is as slow as a wet week and needs to shed some kg’s. 3 months out with injury isn’t going to do that.

Stop blaming Wenger. It could have happened in any game.
The thing now is to concentrate on what we do now. All four centre backs who played in the back four against Everton did bloody well. Yes we missed a bit of attacking that Santos does but full backs are mainly there to defend and that’s what the Verminator does best, defend.

He’s a good player, not great. That said, he’s having surgery in Brazil (Why?) and will be out 3 months (if things don’t go wrong). Will be be in the market in Jan? We’d better be!!!
Wenger has said we won’t be making an offer on Gourcuff or any other midfielders. I have a feeling we may see a singing or two for defenders and hope Chamakh goes and we bring in a quality back-up for RVP or someone to effectively pair with our captain in a 4-4-2

He has a steady experience of tackling when it comes to one on one, good control of he ball and knows exactly when to do what. He is a team player and plays with a lot of dedication.
