Arsenal Need To Sign Backup For Sagna In January – Where’s Eboue?
Emmauel Eboue was a cult hero for the Gooners. Naturally, it was shocking to hear of the news that he had left the club for Galatasaray. Arsene Wenger was no slouch either, signing Carl Jenkinson in response to the Ivorian’s departure.
As the experienced Eboue had proven to be an able deputy to the fantastic Bacary Sagna, a lot was asked of the young Jenkinson when he first came into the team for injured Sagna. The lad had been playing League 1 football with Charlton just a year earlier but he rose to the challenge, putting in good shifts against the likes of Marseille, Udinese and Sunderland.
But let us not forget that he is only 19 years of age and at present, out with an injured back. I am not suggesting that overplaying him lead to his injury, or that the current covering right-back Koscielny (and Djourou) is not doing the job well. However, is there really a need to put so much stress on the depth of the team?
Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Koscielny and Djourou were the central defenders for Arsenal to start with. Having to draft them out to other positions would not only compromise the freshness of the players in the squad, but would make them more susceptible to injuries and exhausting shifts.
To avoid such a problem, Arsene Wenger needs to sign a decent backup for Bacary Sagna. Jenkinson has shown remarkable talent but at a young age, carrying the burden of playing for the first team of Arsenal could prove too much to handle. Maybe it would be a stop-gap signing, like the signing of Sol Campbell in 2010, but a short-term solution would be a solution to this problem nonetheless.

I will never forgive wenger for selling such a versatile player like eboue. He was a genuine lad and loved arsenal so much.

i agree a fullback is very much needed, preferably someone that can play LB aswell as RB (if possible) because santos is struggling all by himself on the left.

We need to sign tested and proven players. We must not keep on selling experienced and buying less experienced players. Arsen need atleast in january transfer to sign a replacement to ebue who is even more experienced and talented than ebue. You can even see what happened during the game with Fulham. Lets just move Arsenal…..

dont know why we’re talking about this when djourou just had an amazing game in right back and jenkinson is developing so quickly.
and we all know how durable sagna is.
if anything, left back is the area where we might be a bit thin. if santos gets injured then what? djourou and koscielny are both at worst capable right backs.
if we want to worry about something, lets worry about a good backup for RVP.

Spurs are drawing closer to Vertongen and the experience with Scott Parket, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku may just repeat themselves.
Wenger identified Vertongen awhile ago and has been talking of Nkolou and too many other target defenders. I am sure that even targets feel frustrated by such multiple interests. If we lose Vertongen, Juan Vergas and a good striker, then we have a problem – especially if we manage to dospose of Chamack, Arshavin, Scillaci, the noisy Bendtner and Rosisky
we are overwhelmed by a favourable market where there is an alternative at the right price. Against Yann Mvila’s 30m we have Ettiene Capoue or Lucal Baglia for less than 10m; Against Eden Hazard 43m we have Podolsky (20m) or Renato Augusto or Solomon Kalou (7m) or Farfan (free against Chamack) or Brek Shea, Against Gotze (30m) we could do with Esteban Granero for 8m: for defenders all are affordable. WE CANNOT FAIL TO BOOST OUT CAPACITY

Eboue is a complete twat. the recent video where he was acting up over the lighters and plastic bottles just shows it. i have watched 5 of his matches at galatasary and he is pathetic. honestly he puts in more dives than tom daley good riddance to a cheat. yes he may be the team joker but please no more circis acts at the emirates. i would take jenkinson koscielny djourou yennaris eastmond and even hoyte over him at right back.
if we are going to buy 2 full backs then van der weil and baines have to be the answer. if we are going to buy more centre backs then vertonghen cahill subotic or hummels are the answer. personally with vermaelen mertesacker koscielny djourou bartley miquel boateng monteiro and angha the only centre back move i can see is squillaci leaving.
Its genuine full back quality we lack the most our recognised left bacls.in order are santos gibbs botelho and brislen-hall. well one.is always in jured one is clearly out of shape one has yet to get a visa and one set to be.released in the summer. at right back sagna jenkinson yennaris hoyte hajrovic. again 2 are injured 1 is set to be released one prefers centre back and one.prefers centre midfield. again looks short. van der weil and baines are the answer to all our problems 2 genuine fit full backs

We really need cover for RVP. I think Demba Ba would fit the profile very nicely. He’s big, he’s French and he’s the most efficient goal scored against shots on goal scorer in the EPL this season so far. Sell Chamakh and get Ba!!
We also need another Defender. Bring in someone like Jan Vertonghen – he can play across the back 4 and also as defensive mid. No point getting specifically RB or LB because what kind of quality can we honestly expect in January and also if we go for a top level player like Vertonghen, we can rotate him around the squad better than someone who can only play as LB or RB.

We should sign cover but we wont. We have Kosielny who can fill in. Jenikinson and Yennaris can play there. Even Coquelin can play there. So Wenger wont sign a RB for cover as he will think we have enough.
Also we bought the 16 year old Hector Bellerin in the summer as a RB and well he’s doing superb in the reserves with goals/assists and not conceding many goals in the reserve team. Wenger said he will fast track this player in to the 1st team within ONE SEASON which shows how much he rates this guy and what got him to move to Arsenal in the 1st place. Wenger said he will play in the reserves this season and will play next season. EG-Carling Cup/Fa Cup so Wenger wont sign cover for Sagna as we have…

I agree with you 100%. Eboue played well in his first season and that was it. Apart from his horrible perfomances for us, i din’t like his body language specially faking injuries.

if you ask me, we should try to get eboue back on a loan deal for the second half of the season, loan jenkinson to a championship or struggling premier league team so he can get some 1st team experiance.
