Arsenal offered Aly Cissokho for £8million
The French international midfielder Aly Cissokho has made it clear that he wants to get away from Lyon as soon as possible, and he announced just last week that he was keen on moving to the Premier League this January.
He said: “This week, I will speak with the Lyon staff. I reckon I prefer England, but for now, there is nothing done.”
With Arsenal desperate for a left-back to cover for the injuries to Andre Santos and Kieran Gibbs, Wenger is reported to have made an enquiry to Lyon to see if he could take Cissokho to the Emirates on a six-month loan deal, having made it clear that a permanent deal was out of the question.
But the Mirror reports today that Lyon have responded by saying that Cissokho can be signed for £8million, but they are not interested in letting him go to Arsenal on loan.
Wenger has long been an admirer of Cissokho and knows exactly how talented the 24 year-old is in the left-back position, so should Arsenal buy Cissokho anyway and think about selling Gibbs next summer (if he stays fit enough!)

im as big an arsenal fan as anyone but i know exactly whats gonna happen we wont buy cissokho and he will go some other rival of ours and the first game in fab who ever is playing LB will get injured and to make it even worse gibbs wont b back for the whole season or he will come back and get injured again rite away ….now i would like to see cissokho come in but if arsene gets someone whose relaible i wont mind that either but he has to get someone

Arsene needs to bite the bullet and sign him. He is on par, probably even better than Santos. We also have young Miquel as a third backup. As ohtobeagooner mentioned Gibbs spends more time in sickbay than he does on the pitch and he is an average player. We must let him go. At least Cissokho is more versatile and can also play in the midfield if we end up short there.
Worth 8m in my opinion. 24 years is a good age too.

Gibbs isn’t bad. Yes, injury-prone for now but could be something else in the near future. Remember, RVP? We wouldn’t have been singing his song today if he had been sold out for his frequent injuries. I will rather suggest we loan him out while settling for another LB.

Keep gibbs too and play him when he is fit, because we will get 5mil for him max because his injury problems, top teams like City have 3 centre backs, and as we are very unlucky with injurys, so should we. Also Santos, im sure is a born winger we can play him there too if we need him

I’ve seen him play a few times and he is good but he has tendencies to have some Djourou moments too. I guess every defender goes through a Djourou moment in their careers. but I don’t think Wenger would want to pay anything more than 10M for this guy. As many might disagree as we’re desperate for LB cover, I actually don’t think he’s worth 8-10M. Santos was a bargain buy at 6.2M.

Go for Gary Cahill!
Although I am not a big fan of him, with the current squad and the youngsters about to pass the 21 mark, we need to look very hard at the “nationality” of new players. Gary Cahill would be a good addition to our squad as a good defensive addition. Rumours are that Cahill will accept a salary at Chelsea around 50k. With only 6 months left on his contract, the transfer fee+sign on fee shouldn´t be too bad. According to English newspapers, the reason Chelsea are only willing to pay 50k/wk is the FFP regulations that will start to come into effect. Arsenal need to start showing financial muscles exploiting the very solid financial footing we have.
Buy fewer but higher quality (i.e. often more costly players) and reduce the number of players not vying for first team action. Gavin Hoyte can be an example: We have several defensive players injured but even as a RB he doesn´t even make the bench. Why?

Fair Enough.. Will Arsenal buy Cissokho though? Somehow get the feeling that with 2-3 more decent players we can start expecting titles in the next few years for sure. The groundwork is being done. Hope us fans have the patience now.

You better wake up from your dreams. Wenger isn’t signing this guy simply because he trusts his boys from the academy and for this, he gives them more than enough time to play at senior level. e.g djourou,denilson,hoyte,song, and so on. Wenger plans for the future and he’ll tell you that gibbs,wilshere,frimpong,coquelin,ramsey,miguel,bartley,aneke and his other boys are future of arsenal.

Most important thing..time factor. Wenger must sign players when we need them. It is already half-way through the transfer window and Wenger is showing his old colours – indecisiveness.
Sign a left back who can also play central, i.e Eric Abidal. Cissokho is definitely better than Santos on the left, he is quick and goes forward too.

i believe wenger have enough number of young players who can be stars one day. i think they already. the way miquel , yennaris, coqiline they play like real pros for me. but a experience adding would be very accomplishment for gunners. because return of the kind Henry made a huge momentum in all the arsenal fans and specially the rteam mates. that confident came because of he is a achiever. so each player tried to match his game. and well v did succeed at that match.
i would say adding a another experience same Cisso would be another major strength. i think we can finish 3. with matial saurez from Argentinian striker we will be very good team.
wenger is a really good predictor on the talent. every single player he bought young and trained they are top of the talents. but after the training of wenger they becoming so greedy. and they run back to another place for money or for trophies.
i guess they didnt realize that trophy less years are not wengers mistakes. that’s the players mistake. wenger did great so far. but players doesn’t have that winning attitude. example last fulham match,
so lets buy some experience to the team

I am with @balanced view here… loan a LB for this season… Gibbs and Santos are great players at that position… Gibbs will move up the ladder to be England’s no1 …once Cole retires… i seriously think due luck(injuries) nobody can judge him as a bad player… Gary Cahill!!! I mean leave that guy for God’s sake… how many centerbacks do we need…? Verma, Kosc, Per and miquel …. that’s a strong enough pairing ….Prefer Vermaelen at CB than LB , hence he is is way better player than Cahill ….. If anybody is to be signed (permanently)…Gotta be Vertonghen due to versatility in playing at LB, CB and CDM….

Sell jenkinson, squillaci, gibbs, ramsy, chamak and arshavin too. Bring in proven players like, cissoko, abidal, m’ vila, marco marin. wat we realy need is creative midfelder and a couple of strong and reliable difender. Meanvile we shud play rosicky instead of ramsy n we benayoon shud be in the team.

aly cissokho/eric abidal would be a good move, preferably cissokho because he’s younger. Also a striker such as lukas podolski (in the summer), matias suarez and another linked player soloman kalou would all be good signings. COYG.

have you ever heard of something called the home-grown rule? look it up
we’re already short unless we include people who have played 3 or less times this season (and thats just desperate).

It would be nice to get some one but Wenger won’t buy anyone this is our problem a couple of very good players and we could make a decent run at leaque and CL but he won’t buy and as per usual we will struggle

The difference between Van Persie and Gibbs is that when Van Persie did play he was always very good. Look at last season for example. Gibbs comes back after months away and puts in average displays at best.
