Arsenal pull out of deal to sign Akinfeev!

Posted on May 10, 2010 by admin

It has just been revealed that Arsene Wenger had arranged to sign the Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev from CSKA Moscow in January, but pulled out of the deal at the last minute so as to give Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski more time to prove themselves!

Sport.co.uk says that personal terms had been agreed between the two parties, and said it was possible that Arsenal could re-enter negotiations during the summer, especially as Russia will not be represented at the World Cup Finals.

If this is true then there will be a lot of disgruntled Arsenal supporters around as they have been clamouring for Wenger to buy a top-class keeper since last summer.

After Wenger’s statement this morning that Fabianski is a “massive talent”, it would seem that he has decided to stick with him for the forseeable future.

What do Arsenal fans think of that?

***The Biggest Boobs in the World just got smaller!***

***Make some cheap apple wine for that summer party NOW!***

the generalisation that all foreign league keepers can’t deal with crosses does seem to be true if we buy anyone i hope it’s a goalie with premier league experience

i think we need a top class keeper to realy keep our post cos i the guys do all they can to score goals we our sae hands in the post keep giving out goals to our opponents then we can never win a cup so i think wenger will have to take his time and get us a good keeper. i dont think fabianski can realy help us .

not a bad deal if u ask me, but no more than 12m

He wouldnt go to all the trouble of setting up a deal and then change his mind at the last minute!! We all know he’s going to buy someone and that Fabianski is just there for back up and to improve his game. Long term I dont think Fabianski (even though he IS a talented keeper) will be Arsenal no 1, Shezney is a truely potential world class prospect and once he has matured a bit I can see him being no2 then no1

MOTHAFUCKER!!! if this is true, the man has lost it. that nervy display yesturday by fabianski should hav been the nail in the coffin. IF THIS IS TRUE, THEN WENGER IS CLEARLY CONTENT AND DETERMINED TO NOT WIN SHIT. WE USED TO HAVE SEAMAN NOW WE HAVE ALMUNIA AND RUBBISH FABIANSKI

Fabianski’ s decent keeper, so is Almunia. Problem is decent is not good enough for Arsenal.
We need top quality. For some reason top quality goalkeepers are a scarce commodity at present. What happened to the Bouffon story of last week?

  15. jack says:

Unfortunately, we won’t get a new ‘keeper. Wenger is just too stubborn to realise that his 2 ‘keepers are sub-standard. The fans made it clear about what they thought of Fabianski against Fulham, when they gave a sarcastic cheer everytime he had the ball in his hands.

Fans might not be the right word to describe people who hamper and make it difficult for an Arsenal to play as well as he can. What a bunch of muppets.

  17. Willows says:

Almunia is far too inconsistent and needs to cruise. Fabianski is a talent, but needs to play consistently to actually harness that talent. Buy a quality keeper like Akinfeev now, send Fabianski on loan for quite a while where he can play consistently and have Mannone as number 2. Sorted. Then we have a quality keeper now with a decent reserve and in a number of years when Fabianski is good enough to challenge for the number 1 spot we will have 2 quality keepers.

    Nuff Said!

  18. Koen says:

While Akinfeev may look the perfect option for Arsenal, I think it isn`t. He may be a fantastich line-keeper with great reflexes etc. But I doubt whether or not he is capable of handling all the high balls into the box against teams as Blackburn.

  19. joe says:

i have said many times Fabiansky is shit so as Alumunia.
the only keepers we have and are not given chance are Mannone and schezny thats it. if wenger thinks Fabiansky is talent then next season we will get nothing as usual.

  23. Menace says:

If Fabianski is so safe Mr Wenger, put him in charge of your bank account. You will be broke within a few minutes with all the money slipping through his gloved hands!!!

He is a good goalkeeper for the reserves or the 3rd division – until he builds strength and confidence.

why do these Arsenal keepers not learn that a scream in the ear can move most dumb forwards or a quick jab in the kidneys. There is no point going to the referee, he is just as stupid as the forward.

It was so obvious when Dunne backed into Sol that there was a foul, but referee Atkinson is English and has selective vision.

  25. Sam says:

Almunia is better than Fabianski and he’s shit. Fabianski isn’t even good enough to play in the reserve team. It’s not fair on the other players working hard to score goals and having a Goalkeeper that the team cant trust near the ball. The only MASSIVE TALENT Fabianski has got is being able to put the ball in his own net nearly every game he plays. Maybe we need a new Goalkeeping Coach as well. So Wenger stop being so cheap, get your wonga out and buy us a good quality Goalkeeper.

schenzy in goal? are you serious he has no experience
and if your talking about giampalo pazzini hes a striker not a defender. fabianski is talented but he just is so inconsistent.

We desperately need a new keeper but Akinfaev is not the one. He’s terrible on crosses and is one of the worst flappers around. He’s not a bad shot stopper buy he pushes everything back out in front of him. I hope we don’t go back in for him

New signings are always a gamble.
Akinfeev is young, and showing great performance in his club and country.
So if the price is not too high up, why not just gamble?

We would like to gamble on him than on our two existing keeper.
They cost us too much this season…
