Arsenal rumours 18th Jan – Dunne, Cahill, Ciani and Thierry Henry
We have a couple of new interesting Arsenal transfer rumours arriving today, and they all seem to be quite possible for a change!
Owen Coyle said yesterday that he had not received any bid from Arsene Wenger for the big Bolton defender Gary Cahill and he doubted very much whether Cahill wuld be moving away from the Reebok before next summer. So, other than Christopher Samba, it was thought that there were no other possible Premiership centre-backs for Arsenal to target this month.
But today the Mail reports that Wenger has made an enquiry to bring the hardman Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne to the Emirates. Dunne had a public falling out with the Villa assistant manager Gary McAllister last month and the Mail thinks this may encourage Gerrard Houllier to let him go. But the 31 year-old was a star in Villa’s draw with Birmingham this weekend and I doubt very much whether Hoillier will really let him go, but you never know……
The Metro reports that Wenger is instead targeting another Frenchman to bring in as cover for Thomas Vermaelen, and they say that Arsenal had scouts in Marseille on Sunday to watch the Bordeaux defender Michael Ciani. The 26 year-old is a French international and it is rumoured that Wenger considered Ciani in the summer before buying Sebastien Squillaci. There is no doubt that he would fit in with the French back line at Arsenal, but as Wenger has said he will only buy an experienced Premiership player, I think we can discount this one for now.
The last rumour today concerns Thierry Henry. The Great One is currently training with the Arsenal team and the Mail reports that Sven Goran Eriksson has been to the Emirates to try and persuade TH14 to move up the road to Leicester for a few weeks to help them to move into the Championship play-off zone.
It would be great to see if Henry could still terrorise defence in England like the old days, and it would certainly increase the gates at the Walkers Stadium for a while. I will be watching these developments with great interest…….

I think Dunne won’t be a bad signing. He is a veteran player in the PL with loads of experience. He is good at set pieces.Wenger obviously looking for temporary option in defence, he suits well for all and he would be a cheap buy.
I hope Wenger do sign someone this month, with only two centre halves, the defence wont hold for long.The fixtures are really hectic.
Playin song or miguel would be too dodgy.

It`s just a thought but ,for the few weeks we are talking about,I think Henry could inspire Arsenal more than Leicester. Pay his wages till he moves on.Could be a winner.

Dunne wouldn’t be a bad buy considering his PL experience and also his doggedness. His age gives me concern tho. Ciani would be a huge gamble as the PL is faster and aint no much time to blend a new player.

Dunne always makes bad judgements, getting too many yellow cards and frequent reds. He’s slow, so he won’t be able to manage against strikers like Rooney or Torres. The only thing he offers to Arsenal is his leadership experience. I still prefer Samba.

For me, it is Samba or no one else. What our dear club needs now is an injection of steel in our back line, and that is what Samba brings to the party.
Wenger should take a chance on him, and we could be champions come the end of the season.

I wonder why there is so much preference for Samba?…aside from de fact that he’s a strong man,I really doubt his technical abilities…such a defender will earn us several penalties over Messi against Barca. Dunne is a good defender who also has europa experience and hey….he’s also a scorer just like Vermelean……but I’m still not sure Wenger will buy a new defender for de remainder of this season. I wont be suprised..coz we’ve been managing well with 3 defenders for a long while

why would dunne want to uproot and come to us for a few months in the team then to sit on our bench next season?
if i were his agent i would tell him to stay put or go to a club where he will play, eg west ham, fulham etc
imho we need a versatile defender (remember grimaldi?) who can cover cb, rb, and maybe dm too. that way the incoming player will get plenty of opportunities.

Memories are short. Unfortunately, no way would Henry terrorize EPL defences ever again. He didn’t in his last season at the Emirates and he hasn’t improved since.

Is it just wishfull thinking on my part or does anyone else think the Immanent signing of David Wheater by Bolton to mean anything. I understand they have a few injury issues of their own but aren’t they looking for a striker as well and isn’t Owen Coyle impressed by Carlos Vela. So how about a cash and striker loan deal to bring Cahil to the Emirates.
This would give Vela first team action at a premier league club which is what the boss is looking for and what he needs. Provides Bolton with (in my opinion) a quality striker to come on in the same way as Wilshire and we get a quality PREMIERSHIP CB to help us do the quadrupple CC, FAC, EPL & CL.

Sum Arsenal fans are willing to except anyone!!, as long as we signs sum one! This is what Wenger has made us feel like!! GET RID of that tight prick wenger and the right manger will bring in world class players to fill in the few voids we need to become champions!! Samba would be a good signing. Not too keen on kos and saqu. And djorou showed on Saturday against carlton cole that he can’t handle a big front man. Samba is good in the air, strong and goodcat set pieces. Something we’ve been crying out for for years. Samba and TV05 would be a good defensive partnership.
Arsene needs to bring someone in and soon, were very close to achieving something this year and Samba could be the missing piece of the jigsaw.

Without verm we do need cover, but I can see the situation Wengers in, it is a hard decision. Considering he bought 2 CB’s less than 6 months ago he’s not going to sell them for a while (he’s not rafa)
I personally think some of you rate samba way too much. He’s decent, and he’s got good physical attributes but that’s about it. Hes far from world class.
There’s no way he’s going to pay £20mil for Cahill, it’s just not gonna happen. That’s too much

Samba is better to be signed since he is stable than djorou as we watch against west ham when he was about to be beaten .Please we expect your action as possible.

Dunne would work well at Arsenal. Just look at his record with Villa when they were doing well last year. He needs someone quick beside him as he lacks pace but he is excellent in the air a factor The Gunners have been missing for a number of years. It is a while since Arsenal had an Irish man in the squad and we now need the luck of the Irish to carry us to the end of a very tricky season.

samba has been better thn all our center backs this year but recently has been of form due to being unsettled but still a grd option.Samba is very good at being the aggressive defender that every striker fears, however he uses this aggression to benefit his game and rarely gets booked or sent off. great for attacking/defending corners
dunne is also a great option who is a veteran at leading the efensive line and great in the slide tacke also last year was one of the best centre backs around
ciani i feel is the best option great in the air and taclking, frenchlol and is fast for a big lad and has amazing balance for his stature

Some of you must think Arsene Wenger is playing a game of FIFA as our manager with all this requesting of stupid names, i see no one getting bought, i wouldnt have minded samba a few weeks back when it was in the papers that he was on the way out, but thats not gonna happen, anyways on their day, koscielny and djourou can be just as good as any CB pair in the league, and as for Song, he is the best holding midfielder in the league so with him in front of them we are going to be fine till Vermaelan returns, hopefully asap !!!!!!!

@MikE: Vertoneghn can play in quite a few positions so he would be a smart option. We need a new Adams/Keown/Viera & I reckon Vermaelen is that, he just needs a deputy bulldog & there aren’t many abt!
Also Eduardo the portugese No.1 keeper wouldn’t be a bad cop abt now either! We need a deeper more fierce defence in general!!
