Arsenal rumours 20th July – Franck Ribery, Bruno Uvini and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Posted on July 20, 2011 by admin

There are definitely some weird Arsenal transfer rumours about this morning and they are sure to generate some interesting conversations.

The first one is from Talksport, who report that Arsenal are showing an interest in the Sao Paolo defender Bruno Uvini. This interestingly-named 20 year-old is obviously talented as he is being made captain of the Brazil U20 side in the upcoming U20 World Cup. They reckon that as Arsenal so nicely let Sao Paolo have Denilson on loan, they will return the favour by giving Arsene Wenger priority if he wants to make an offer. That all sounds a bit iffy to me, but you never know…..

The next one, from Footybunker, is even more unlikely as it involves the 28 year-old superstar Franck Ribery. He is apparently being lined up as an acceptable replacement for Cesc Fabregas if he moves on this summer. I would stick my neck out and say that Wenger wouldn’t buy Ribery because; a) his age, b) he is a bit crocked, and c) Wenger wouldn’t offer him half the wages that he currently earns at Bayern Munich….

Now on to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. At the beginning of the transfer window I was convinced that the Southampton youngster would be joining the Gunners (and the bookies had us at 1/10 on to sign him!), but now it seems that the Saints are not happy with the deal offered and are refusing to continue negotiations.

But the youngster himself is now telling the Mirror that he wants Southampton to let him go. He said: “This season I couldn’t have asked for more from the fans, the management and the players.

“They have all been magnificent in helping me to adapt to playing in the first team.

“To be honest, I’ve even surprised myself with my achievements this year. To have made as many starts and appearances as I have done has been incredible.

“I just feel that I am ready to play in the Premier League. I think I can take a lot of encouragement and confidence from what Theo – and Gareth Bale at Spurs – have done.

“When you look at a player like Jack Wilshere at Arsenal, he was only a year above me in the academies.

“He played in a tournament that I was in as a youngster and even then you could see he was going to be unbelievable.

“The same as Gareth and Theo, and with the other players my age that have made the step up, like Wayne Rooney and Phil Jones. There’s no barrier on the age you have to be to play in the Premier League. If you’re good enough, you’re old enough. Hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to prove that.”

Well thought you would get that opportunity too Alex!

As far as I remember Southampton wanted to add a clause entitling them to 40% of any sell-on value if Arsenal sell the youngster at some point in the future. Surely no Premiership club would agree to that?

one thing wenger won’t do is cave-in to any additional financial demands. The chamberlain deal is dead by the look of it. Its ironic that the whole football world knows how tight wenger is yet he seems to be continually plagued by deals that gazump the price!…as if he is going to agree to that!!!!!
Thats why it is taking a painful amount of time to acquire players…..samba, cahill etc….wenger just wont pay over the odds, and particularly when he believes that managers are not negotiating in the correct manner that wenger pompously believes they should do

  5. FREDDY KOIGI says:

I respect Wenger but I will also call him the BIG, STUPID, FOOL for holding on to a loosing practise.

    What is pre-season all about?

According to me, pre-season is all about integrating the team and evaluating their competitiveness, deciding the best pairing and suitable positions to play each player.

I am not the Manager, Wenger is, but I believe I am right about that definition of pre-season, which makes me call wenger A FOOL because, He knows all about the players he has at Arsenal at the moment, SHOULDN’T HE BE USING PRE-SEASON TO EVALUATE HIS NEW PLAYERS?.

I think he has become addicted to buying on 31st August and usually, that proves to be very unhelpful.

Look at situation with Lassana Diarra, If he had bought him in June, don’t you think it would have made a lot of difference to his Arsenal career?

Also, Cesc Fabregas may be hard to replace, but Samir Nasri definitely isn’t!. Why spend time caressing them instead of spending the time looking for somebody ready and willing to play for Arsenal.

Arturo Vidal may not be as offensive as Nasri is, But I believe he is a better player since he will offer both attacking threat and defensive solidity, more like Paul Scholes, Jack Wilshere and Michael Essien do, Nasri may be nimble but that is not what Arsenal needs, they got that in ambundance, what they need is a midfield general and there are very few of those in the World right now and Nasri is not one of them, Vidal is!. With Nasri attracting a 22 million offer, I would do the deal with my eyes closed and bring in Arturo Vidal for 12 million and Christopher Samba for 10 million.

I’ll hate the day Cesc Fabregas will leave Arsenal but 35 million would surely bring Karim Benzema and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and I think they may hold another type of key to unlock defenses meaning that we may not miss the type of key that Fabregas uses, after all, very few teams in the World have a Fabregas type of a player and they still survive.

Gary Cahill at 17 million isn’t the most expensive player in the World, he is nowhere near it so it is a shame that Wenger feels he can’t afford him, If I was Wenger, I’d have loved to go with him to Germany so that I can have him pair up with Johan Djourou in central defense as I try to re-introduce the New Captain, Thomas Vermaelen to the left back position. If Wenger think Kieran Gibbs is a left back, he is dead wrong!!!!!!!!!!. Kieran Gibbs has a wonderful cross and good footballing ability to play the left wing but NEVER a left back of a winning team, in a loosing team, he can do the job at left back.

What about 4-4-2 with Robin Van Persie right behind either of Walcott, Gervinho or Benzema.

What about January 21, 2012, when we have to face Manchester United without a defensive midfielder as Song will be at the Africa Cup of nations and Wenger think Diaby can cover and he can’t!!!!!!.

Ironically, the only place we are well covered is in goal keeping. It has mysteriously worked itself out from the worst covered position to the best covered much to the detriment of the whole team as Wenger expects every other position to do the same.

It is a shame that he definitely knows ALL THESE THINGS and he always decides to do nothing about them.

    @realistic tony

It’s not pompous, it’s shrewd. I think Wenger has read ‘The Intelligent Investor’. The book states that you should never overpay for anything. Warren Buffett followed these rules for 50 years and amassed 50 million dollars. It gives a margin of safety against bad investments and increases the bargain on good ones.

  7. Josh says:

Instead of buyin ribery, who is more injury prone than van persie, if he wants a winger buy mata, hazard or as a choice i doubt anyone had thought of we should go for arjen robben. Personally i thought he was quality at chelsea, very direct, scored goals and assisted them as well. Still need to sort out defence and defensive midfield for that I would like yann m’villa and sakho.

    Ribery is an off-the-field liability.
    He’s also too old.
    He’s also too expensive.
    He’s also not available.

Besides, didn’t he get caught up in some under-age sex scandal last year? How do you think that’s going to go down among the Old Trafford half-wits?

@clintm15….depends how you view wenger doesnt it. I agree he is shrewd , but he is also arrogant, pompous, and stubborn. in pure money terms, i agree wenger follows an absolute policy of caution and tight-fistedness….however being shrewd should involve investment to ensure champions league revenue of 30 million plus….his woeful defense isnt up to that challenge, therefore he stands to lose that amount…..which is folly dont you agree?

i think that some arsenal fans never understand what the mission mr wenger is all about here in our team,n\NB WeNGER has made his record 3 EPL title that is all about his record and reaching champion,s league final ,the secret is this, he is a shear holder, what he is about doing is making money collecting bribes.just like he did in the match with C cup final with bm city, just like he has done with MAN U chelsea b4 NOW IS turn of man C ,WITH ARSEN WENGER as our coach we are not going to archive something i will still tell u how much he collected for the bm city arsenal final, so he is just here to make money while we fans are crying every day which have caused many fans to commit suicide while others can,t talk where others are talking thanks

kenjohnson – i think you understand little about the financial structure of the club if you think it benefits wenger to amass money within the club! Get real! I also think that if wenger had taken a bribe over the carling cup final them someone would have mentioned it before you.

More accurate is that the players we have bottled it and now we get a chance to sell them for pretty high prices. Thank goodness for the excellent 1st half of season that nasri had because people seem willing to value him on that not the 4 months that he went without a single goal or assist. And if fabregas would rather go and freeze his arse on the plastic seating of the barca subs bench then so be it – more fool him.

Best to stop getting emotionally involved with players, stop getting carried away with transfer prices and big names and go for QUALITY players who love football more than money!!!!

arsenal fans who want wenger to go are retards and should be put down for how stupid they are. the mans won 11 cup and the club only won 37 in its whole history and his left the club in the best financial position in the league. while playing football the way its meant to be played. oh and also one of the only teams which will ever go unbeaten in this league. wenger hater please support another team our not needed!

Who is STUPID? Wenger or the Fans. Let me see….NO trophies for six years and counting; Fans stayed loyal and full house week-in-week-out. Fans are buying season tickets but Wenger doesn’t want to reward the fans’ loyalty. Definitely Wenger is either Stupid or dangerously over-confident.

I hate to admit it but the fact is the pre season needs to have a settled team working together to iron out flaws, whereas with us we dont even know who is in and who is out and we are less than a month away from the season to start.Cesc fabregas is going, if nasri wants to go, please leave early than drag this for we cant be building our team without clarity on his stay or not.Psychologically the team may feel the pinch initially on losing their 2 best players but once the games begin they will get over it if they get the right results. imagine in training jack passes to nasri or cesc and wonders in his mind will i be doing the same come august??????I do feel wenger needs to ensure that this time he replaces people who leave with quality. No more fitting players to somehow manage, if cesc leaves buy mata, if nasri leaves buy quality replacements, lastly for heavens sake please buy a center half and a left back, without them we are doomed.
