This is the roundup of todays Arsenal transfer news and it makes interesting reading as always. It looks like the Fabregas saga is going to come to a head very soon after Pep Guardiola assured his protege that he will do everything to get him to Barcelona, and the Mirror is reporting that Cesc himself has made it plain he wants to quit Arsenal and is desperate for Wenger not to block his dream move back to the Nou Camp.
If true, this puts Wenger in a very delicate position as he will hardly want to keep an unhappy player, but he also will be loathe to let Barcelona have him cheaply. But if Wenger looks at it logically and gets a price for Juan Mata that is LESS than he recoups for Fabregas, then it will be a case of a straight replacement without losing out. The Valencia coach Unai Emery stated today: “The possibility exists that Mata will leave the club,”
“We want him to stay and Mata has also expressed his desire to stay at Valencia, but at the same time we cannot stop a player who really wants to leave for money or for a bigger club.
“So, if there is a large financial offer from any club, that is good for both us and him, we will have to let him leave.”
So Mata is pretty much in the same postion as Fabregas then, except he could go to any club!
With no news on the Cahill and Samba front, Arsenal are now being linked with two other central defenders. The first is Birmingham’s Scott Dann, who is a similar type of player (and just as big!) as the other two, but with a much cheaper price having defended his way into the Championship with the Midlands club.
The other defender (who just popped out of nowhere) is the Copenhagen captain Mathias Jorgensen. Despite only being 21, the 6ft 3in has been playing for the Danish giants for three years (and won the title every time!) and must be pretty imposing if they’ve made him captain already. At £5m he could be a real bargain and a typical Wenger signing. In fact I like the sound of this particular Arsenal rumour!
The last bit of gossip concerns the young Belgian hitman Romelu Lukaku. I always thought it was obvious that he would sign for Chelsea in the end, but the Mirror reckons that both Arsenal and Tottenham are both in the running, especially after he said: “I’m not obliged to sign for the Blues.”
“There are other big clubs in Europe,” he continued. “I want to aim as high as possible.”
How that puts Tottenham in the running I’ll never know! But no matter the rumours I still can’t see Wenger stopping him from moving to Chelsea…….
