Arsenal rumours 24th Jan – Gotze, Rosicky, Vertonghen, Yilmaz and Arshavin
Despite Arsene Wenger making it clear that he doesn’t like the January transfer window, there are still lots of Arsenal transfer rumours out there in the ether, but whether any of them are true is another matter.
One player who won’t be coming to Arsenal is the “German Jack Wilshere”, Mario Gotze, who has somehow managed to break a bone in his groin (how???) and will be out for six weeks, virtually ensuring that he won’t be leaving Dortmund this month.
Thomas Rosicky is an Arsenal player that is entering the last six months of his contract, and he has been linked with a move to Wolfsburg in Germany and also across London to Fulham. It seems that his agent, Pavel Paska, is currently on his way to the Emirates to talk to Arsene Wenger about his clients situation.
“Fulham is just press speculation,” Paska said on Sky. “I am now going to have a meeting with Arsen Wenger but won’t comment on anything before that. I don’t like to give any prognosis to the press.
“I react on facts and that means I will express myself only when we know the result of this meeting.”
So that is a possible move this month, although it won’t help Arsenal fans much!
The Dutchman Jan Vertonghen is yet again being linked with the Gunners, and it seems that Tottenham are also keen on the versatile Ajax defender. That is one player that Arsenal could do with right now as most Gooners would agree, but he won’t be moving until the summer when he enters the final year of his contract.
Vertonghen himself said: “There is talk of a contract extension, but not much has been said,”.
“Perhaps Ajax will find it to be a good thing when I leave, I don’t know.
“But I think that in the future I could have a very good transfer.”
He certainly could but will the stubborn Wenger really be in the market for another defender, even in the summer?
An interesting fact is that the prolific Trabzonspor goal-machine Burak Yilmaz has (for no apparent reason!) stated that he wants to come to Arsenal. His quote said: “I am a Trabzonspor player until the end of the season; if I were to move abroad I would want to move to a big club. I would accept a transfer to Arsenal.”
His record is truly impressive this season, scoring 22 goals in just 17 games so far, but why on Earth would he mention Arsenal unless he thought he was being watched by the Gunners scouts? I don’t pretend to know the answer to that one.
The last subject must be Andrei Arshavin, who will find it very hard to take to the field as a sub again after this weekends crowd reaction. Nigel Winterburn, Ray Parlour and Gary Neville have all made it clear that he should leave the Emirates as soon as possible, but with the lack of any recent rumours about him, I’d just like to add that I agree with them…

Again Wenger has left it till the 11th hour to even think about transfers. Everyone in the football world knows this, so AGAIN we will pay (if we even buy) more than players are worth, and not actually get the right players we need. Whatever AW strategy in the transfer window is …. Is truly flawed. Anyone else see a rotten trend in how we manage our players right now? …. And who’s responsibility is it to manage our players? (including transfers).
Said it before, and I’ll say it again – SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE!

sick of rumours. we may not always agree, but for now we have to still trust in arsene. support our team and hope the injured players return soon and get us up into that top 4. then give arsene the summer to sort this out. if it not done this year i have to admit i will be another jumping on the, get wenger out bandwagon. but for now guys, support the mighty arsenal. they are our club forever.

Hey, hey guys!
Demba Ba is rumoured to be in talks over a 3 year contract with Arsenal, for a fee of 20 million pounds! Nothing is for certain but more information regarding the transfer will definitely be available next week.
What’s more Ozil is considering his options at Real Madrid, and Arsenal are among four top clubs in Europe trying to snoop him up. Price tag is somewhere between 30 million to 40 million. Wenger is definitely considering this much needed type of player.
See how it works?

Gary Neville..most biased analyst and just bags on other teams but never utd players..idk whats wrong with arshavin im a big fan of his but from what i see he has lost interest in playing. Maybe family reasons or just not fitting in well with the team. However he is a fantastic player I just wwish he could show it.

Ozil would be a dream signing for our midfield, but at that price I doubt it would happen.
Ba would be a great addition to the squad, trade Chamakh + some cash for him now.
Vertonghen needs to play for Arsenal, I’m sure if he has his choice he’d play for us over Spuds.
Callejon would also be an incredible add. He’s a goal scoring machine and isn’t getting the minutes behind Benzema, Higuain, and Ronaldo @ Real. He’d do very nicely at the Emirates.
I’d like to see ROsicky move during the transfer window to Fulham and free up a spot in the squad where we could sign someone. Marco Reus, Loic Remy, M’Vila, Hazard,Xherdan Shaqiri, or Gourcuff

the only way we are going to get any new signing in this window is if wenger sells one one of the lurking deadwoods, i.e arshavin djourou. The wage bill needs to be lowered as wee are over 3000m in debt for the emirates. I would love a new signing at arsenal, the squad needs re vitalising and freshening up..roll on the return of jack and bacary…must get 3 points against bolton. Final point cut the slack on aaron ramsey, a guy who has played more games in the arsenal team then any other of our players.

I Truly dont think the problem lies in midfield, even if we lose rosicky at the end of the season, diaby too he is pointless and his injury situation is becoming ridiculous. Next season we could have a midfield of ramsey, wilshire, arteta, coquilan, frimpong, lansbury, song and maybe promote another like henderson or aneke And thats without making a signing. To me thats plenty of quality in that department. The problem is up front arshavin and chamakh are deadwood, bring in another winger like gervinho and get a quality forward like podolski and we’re rolling.

@top gunner do you mistake quantity for quality? The list of players you mentioned in midfield will have a bad day @ office against spurs, swansea, manshitty, chelski and even scholes will single handedly deal with them let me safe them from mention realmadrid or almighty barca. Wenger keep believing in quantity and forgets it is quality that wins matches which in turn get you trophy. Our present full squad are hardly worthy of our carling cup team in the days of the invisible.

ARSENAL: ITS A QUESTION OF STYLE
This was the poster I had on my wall as a young boy.
Amongst aaaaall this controversy off substituitions that should have never been, players that should be bought, players that should be sold and managers that need to be sacked along with the board. One very heart breaking point dawned on me..
In the last 7 trophyless years the one thing that always comforted us was our slick, mobile, technical, beautiful possesion football. Rivaled only by the best team in the world Barcelona (whom we beat like we were their fathers hahaha)
But we’ve lost it. We’ve lost our style. We lost our identity. Even wen we went seasons trophyless, we had the GENIUSE of Francesc Fabregas who could supply the killer pass at will, we had the nimble feet of Samir Nasri, we had the work horse that was Mathieu Flamini and the flair of Aleksandre Hleb. We had a ruthless finisher in Robin Van Persie (the then right winger) and we had a powerful skillful clinical finisher in Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor. They were our future. They entertained us. And they gave us hope.
We no longer hav style, we no longer keep the ball, we can’t even manage ten passes together these days.
Wat do we hav to comfort us now in these darkest of times??

Rumours are useless. Who knows who we may get. (I suspect no one). Gotze, Hazzard, Ozil, Podolski …. Would all be great to have, but so would Messi, Ronaldo, Sneider etc. What I’m saying is, reality is neither is going to likely happen. (Possible – yes, likely – no). Just a reality check. Why? … Because history shows -
1. Wenger has not changed his formation in over 6 yrs. Has not altered our style of play no matter what. Has only made excuses for why we continue to not win anything for 6 yrs. Has sold all of our quality players (bar RVP) to date. (Not saying we have rubbish, but our best players leave). We are truly a selling club (We buy young, develop, sell at peak – eg. Fabregas, Nasri, Cole, Anelka, etc). This all show that AW is actually TOTALLY consistent in how we do things. Therefore, what makes anyone think it will change? As the saying goes – Insanity = doing the same thing, and expecting a different result.
2. We have not paid more than £20mil for anyone. £20mil was for the lazy arse Arshavin we have now …. Does anyone think this would give AW (who doesn’t spend money generally) any confidence in spending again for another potential flop??!!? I bet my left testicle no player worth the money will be spent in this window!
3. To actually acquire the quality players we would want, they would actually require being available. As I have stated before, their price would be inflated (because other clubs know we are desperate), those players would actually want to come to us (which if RVP leaves, doesn’t really leave us with much pulling power), and we would actually be willing to spend the money (see the point above).
4. If what I have stated is true (for the sake of this argument, let’s assume it is), then any talent we currently have (Ramsey, Walcott, Ox, Szcesny) like those that have gone before – Fabregas, Nasri etc will eventually leave when they have developed, and they realise someone else will pay them well for their skill, and they are likely to potentially win something with another club (which we all see RVP heading in this direction already. I will genuinely be surprised if he doesn’t leave at the end of the season. I also hope I am wrong, for all our sakes).
So are we likely to buy? Prob not. Unless we hear anything concrete, I would not hold my breath. Reality is, our club is on a downward spiral. The facts show this – no trophies in 6 yrs, losing quality players left right and centre, possibility of not qualifying for the CL, likeyhood of losing RVP at the end of the season, not buying the players we actually need, unchanging strategy on the field – even when the football world has changed and maybe its time for us to change some things also. I have been an AW supporter till now, but I’m afraid enough is enough. Maybe its time for a change (either he does – highly unlikely, or maybe he steps aside for someone who can move our club forward). Seems like fans are not willing to put up with an under-performing player, why put up with an under-performing manager?

I sometimes hear comments like AW doesn’t like the January transfer window. Well, I’m sorry but from where I’m standing, it’s about strengthening the squad, not what he likes or dislikes. I’m not interested in his affective state of mind! I just want to see a strong squad capable of competing at the very highest level to restore some sense of pride in we, the fans!!

As much as I have gone off Arshavin, his performances and attitude, his work rate, desire and professionalism. We have to remember he hates playing as a winger. It’s not his position.
He hates to play there and you can see it when he plays. He wants the Rooney role. Its where he plays at the National level. So why not play him where he feels most comfortable. Why not try it Arsene? It can’t be any worse than it is now?
Why don’t you have flexibility in your systems to accomodate him? You may think players at this level can play anywhere and I agree but some are not cut out for it. There physique and skill set is limited to certain roles.
He is one of them. Hence his body language when he plays where he does.
If Wenger played him where he should be played and his attitude and work rate is still as bad then sell him. But at least play him where he feels he plays best.
It really is a bit unfair to expect a player to perform in a role they clearly are not comnfortable with.
The same goes for Djourou although i feel that even if he was playing as centreback he is not quite good enough.

but we can only achieve this if arsenal’s management start puting some little luv into the team, as arsenal fans we need something in return for the support we give to the team.

problem with wenger is he does all the transfers himself leaving him with to much to do same as last season when he had to deal with all the players going out before getting new players in like when nasri cesc eboue and glitchy left leaving him with little time for bringing in new players even though he likes to leave it till deadline day for a bargain
it is to much for him we sgould bring back david dein or someone else to help get rid and bring in new players so we can start making the right decisions quickly i think henry should get the position of helping with transfers when he retires thumbs up if u agree

All you dumbos listen up… Arsenal has a good balanced squad this year. So we do not need any players reallyyy.. Arsene Wenger is under pressure so he made some mistakes.. Like you lot have never made mistakes… tell me this what is our trueee starting xi for this year? It’s
Wojchek
Sagna
Koscielny
Vermalen
Gibbs
Song
Arteta
Wilshere
Wallcott
Van Persie
Gervinho… Now answer has any of these players played once together all 11 of them? No, !st it was Wilshere not played a single game.. but we had an okay replacement that was Ramsey…But just after a difficult 1st game we had Gervinho and Song both suspended and then a string of top class games with a fringe team. Then Sagna got Injured in that process, our new RB Jenkinson got injured who defends wayyy better than Djorou.. Gibbs got injured and Santos did really well not so much defencively though but going forward he was better than anyone in the defence and ever since he got injured has been our down fall.
But now we have all of them coming back from injury bit by bit.. By the time we face AC Milan and Spurs finish their tough run.. We will have a good team out there.. And probs will be able to finish 4th while spuds become 5th.. Marck my words…
