Arsenal rumours Dec 9th – Vertonghen, Alex, Cahill, Gotze, Neymar and Damaio
There are a good few Arsenal transfer rumours around today and there seems to be a lot of defenders being mentioned after Sebastien Squillaci’s usual useless performance at Olympiakos and the ongoing injury problems in the Arsenal back line.
The £10m-rated Jan Vertonghen is many Arsenal’s fans idea of a versatile acquisition for the Gunners, and as he has played with Thomas Vermaelen at Ajax and Belgium he should fit straight in to the team, but the Metro reports today that Tottenham have already opened talks with Ajax over the 24 year-old. It seems that Vertonghen has told the Dutch giants that he won’t be signing a new contract and wants to move to the Premier League. Go on Arsene, don’t let him move to the Spuds…..
The Mail and the Star both lead with the news that Wenger is going to bid £2m for the Chelsea outcast Alex, who scored a screamer against the Gunners last season, but the Mail reckons that Juventus are Arsenal’s main rivals for his signature, while Star believes that (again) Tottenham are the challengers.
The Mail also says that Wenger is going to return with another “derisory” bid for Gary Cahill in January with Tottenham yet again “waiting in the wings” although most other papers reckon that the Bolton and England man will end up at Chelsea (to replace Alex?). I can’t see Wenger getting Cahill unless he waits to get him on a free next summer, but even then Arsenal wouldn’t match the wages on offer at Stamford Bridge……
Moving away from defenders, we have the never-ending link with the young German Mario Gotze. Talksport report that the German international was not happy with Dortmund’s exit from the Champions League, and they even quote a “source” from Germany that said: “Every player has a price, though, and for Gotze it is £30m.” If true that seems like a reasonable price for a guaranteed star of the future…..
Lastly the Mail has reported that Arsenal are going to make a £25m move for the talented Brazilian striker Leandro Dimaio, who was a target for Harry Redknapp in the summer. Wenger desperately needs a world-class backup for Robin Van Persie and Dimaio fits the bill, but can anyone really see Wenger entering a bidding war for this supremely talented individual?
If he was going to lay out that much on one Brazilian player then Wenger has already admitted he would go for Neymar, who he considers to be as good as Lionel Messi. He said: “If I had the money today, I’d put it on Neymar,”
“You can’t say that Neymar is Pele as he had won the World Cup by the age of 17.
“He has the potential to be one of the future great strikers but at the moment there’s a big difference between the Brazilian league and a European league.”
But of course the Brazilian youngster is much more likely to sign for Barcelona or Real Madrid, and reading Neymar’s comments on this weekends El Classico between the two Spanish giants, see if you can guess which one he prefers!
“I am very fond of Dani Alves and I always support him,” Neymar said. “I’m going with Daniel and Adriano.
“Barca are the best team in the world. They all play the ball. Xavi, Iniesta and Messi are crucial and I hope to play with them live.”
The arrival of Neymar at the Emirates is one bit of Arsenal transfer news that we would all love to hear, but although Wenger may like Neymar, it looks like his future lies at the Nou Camp…..

Arsenal lost out on clinching the premier league title in the 07/08 season just because Mr professor refused to sign reinforcement in tne January transfer window.This present send has got great potential also but for anything good to come out of this season Mr Wenger MUST get 2 or 3 quality players in January because if he does not and the team CRUMBLES in FEBRUARY then expect to see Van Persie leaving at the end of the season…PLZ LE PROFESSOR,ACT RIGHT THIS TIME cos the team NEEDS REINFORCEMENT in DEFENCE and ATTACK come January!

Are Arsenal fans annoyed at hearing all our targets later become hotspud targets? It’s like Redknapp sends his spies on covert operations to see what our scouts are doing! Harry get some originality. You bore me!!!! Most of the players Tottenham track prefer to go to Arsenal anyway!
Vertonghen, no doubt is a great buy with his relationship and understanding with Vermaelen. The 2 could fortify the back line for years to come. I prefer him over Mertesacker any day, although the German has been good for Arsenal. Realistically, Wenger would be typical Wenger and opt for the value option in Alex. Don’t we need to save our pennies for a certain German? I actually really like the Burly Brazilian and what he has to offer. Would be good for Santos too.
Damaio would be a good buy but not a value one, as his price will inflate and I still think he needs to prove his worth. NEXT. Cahill, still in high demand by English clubs. Abramovich looks set to pay his ridiculous transfer fee as he’ll grow tired of AVB’s whingeing and whining. Slap the rookie coach! NEXT. As for Neymar……yeah just keep stroking the Anaconda but the only one coming is you!
Why wasn’t Shaqiri included in this article? He’s the newest and hottest prospect at the moment. Estimated currently at 10-12M he’ll most likely be sold closer to the 20M mark. Could be a better buy than Gotze for that price. Wenger might think so. I understand most might prefer Gotze, but who would complain if we recruited the Man Utd killer?

Vertougen will be a plus to Arsenal if wenger will sign him, he will make another captain in the defense. Turning the number of captain signing in Arsenal to Four or Five, with which result we are seeing on the pitch. Goetze, will be an addition to arsenals free flowing game, creating chances and creating a cover for Ramsey and maybe Gervinho attimes. Dimiao, we need a box player, with pecfect techniques, all Arsenal needs is a striker that knows where to be at every moment. Dimiao will be a plus to us. This three can help strenghten Arsenal’s title chance. Like i Used to say, very soon, we will line up Arsenal’s Heros

In Jan i believe we need to Shore up our defense – cos I believe if u dont conceed you wont lose- so Vertonghen is a must buy. He is so versatile and will easily slot into dat leaking left back. I dont think a new striker is necessary in Jan (but we must get one in the summer) as long as the team stops conceedin we will scrap out results necessary to push on. Let’s give Park a chance but Chamakh must go, i prefer Afobe even Watts to him ( atleast they a’int scared to attack defenders and shoot).
Throw out Arshavin and push Santos into the wings, he will b devastating up front. But we need creativity and Goetze must be the one, its very important. In summary

All these Christmas wishes depend on Arsene selling Arshavin, Squid, Fabianski, Chamakh.
Wenger might get a couple Euros for that bunch, not enough to purchase a quality player, much less two.
Podolski as a single striker gets caught offside too may times (6 last game), but he is way way better than our Russian/Moroccan/Korean combo.
Best buy is Marco Reus, then Remy, then Lucas Moura, then Podolski.
Forget Neymar, PLEASE, he will go for $60 million to Spain.

I have watched Gotze play several times and I do not see any difference between him and Wilshere. I really do not think we need him.
Although I have not seen much of Shaqiri but I think he will be a better option since he can also play in other positions.
As for Neymar, he will not come and neither do I think Wenger will want to sign him. Besides we need players who will not force a move years after ( I know all players have that tendency but Neymar clearly prefers a move to Spain and if he does not get it now, he will only use us as a stepping stone ).
Although we have the Africa Nations cup coming up in January but I still do think Sow is a player worth a punt. He will not be overly expensive and is clearly very good ( cheap and being African French makes him Wenger’s choice ). The other African player playing with CSKA is another player worth a punt.
We should also be able to get Villa for around 25 million if we try hard. He is no longer wanted at Barca and may be a good partner cum backup for RVP who is untouchable right now.
Cahill? We really do not need him except we manage to get rid of both Djuouru and Squillaci which I doubt. We however need a quality left back and I think the Belgian guy will fit. The fact that we have scouted him couple of times gives me hope. Wenger always end hope going for players he has scouted several times.
One player I secretly want us to get is Modric. He will prefer a move to Chelsea but to be honest, Chelsea do not need him again ( though the stupidity in them will always manifest and they may just go for him again ). I know we have no chance if he does not want to come but if we manage to convince him to come to us, Spurs ( no matter how much they hate us ) can not stop him again.
Ramsey is one for the future but Modric is what we need right now. Arta is great but not so creative. We need creativity in the middle.
Players to go : Almunia, Arshavin, Bendtner, Squillaci, Djuouru and Chamrk. Loan : Denilson ( don’t come back please ), Frimpong, Coquelin, Agha, Miquel and Miyachi.

Versatility is the name of the game now. Who would want Kos and Verminator replaced. Many of the backups aren’t good enough but you can’t buy quality players unless you’re going to give them games. You don’t know who’ll get injured so the best solution is to have excellent fringe players who can play in a number of positions. The club needs a good young striker though because as second choice he would get games. Verthongen can (I think) cover full back, centre back and defensive midfield so that’s a player who would fit very well into the Arsenal squad. For the striker i’d go for buying Podolski while selling Arshavin and Chamakh. Podolski can cover both positions so would also get games even if RvP stays fit all season. Forget youth, Arsenal have enough youth talent to keep the required spending down to acceptable levels for the next decade.

The one for me has got to be Shaqiri, he can play in the middle and wide and will cost a fraction of Goetz or Hazard and is just as good. Cahill will go to the chavs and Vert is close to signing for spuds and they are in a much better position than us, much as I hate to admit it. No point talking about Neymar, he will go to Spain. Bains and Jags would be nice but unlikely. Alex? I hope not but it will likely be him or someone we have never heard of. Up front I really don’t have any idea as it’s difficult to imagine us spending lots in Jan but now is when we need to. Please surprise us boss.

I think that Alex is a good buy and the rumours that we will buy him have been circling since August. Vertonghen would be the best defensive option right now but Arsene will be hesitant to get into a bidding war as history has shown us. Gotze is pushing the limits on what he will spend but is highly likely to move clubs given Dortmund’s drop from the UCL. Cahill is almost 100% a no as chelsea will outbid us and either Alex or Vertonghen are better buys.
Neymar is definitly not coming to Arsenal. he is too expensive and is not likely to settle for a back up role to R.V.P given that Barca are liekly to sell David Villa freeing up a first team place. Also, we do not ahve he financial power to bid with either of the Spanish sides. Damaio or Podolski are our most liekly buys in the striker department and either the Brazilian or the German are excellent choices as R.V.P backup. however will Podolski give up first team football for econd choice? Also Spurs are likely to try to snatch him away and with Adebayor returning to City end of season they need a quality striker.

everyone just remember ARSENAL is in the CL and many other teams arent even close so dont be negative lets thinks positive and wait to see what happens in the transfer window. i really hope to get some signings cause we need an RB or CB, someone in the midfield and up front too maybe im saying like 3 or 4 players and maybe just gotze if we want youth we need experiencend players to balance the team well…

Why does everyone assume if we bought veetonghen we should play him at left back. vertonghen is a better centre back than vermaelen and vermaelen is a better left back than vertonghen just ask the belgium and ajax coaches who always play the 2 in their correct positions.
vermaelen is only 4th choice centre back for belgium with kompany van buyten and vertonghen all ahead of him.

I could go back further and find some more misleading statements (lies) from Arsene about potential transfers but here’s a nice recent one. Shaqiri and Gotze as good as Hazard? no way you must not watch Hazard play but he could offer us even more than what Nasri did in his “good season” he’s full of creativity even more so then Juan Mata at chelski I believe I wish Wenger would of.gone for Hazard before Zidane came and ruined it all for us now knowing Madrid are after him as well we won’t be able to compete ….But little Gotze and Shaqiri would both be fantastic buys watching the Basel game I knew what Man U had in store for em…..and it did end up being Shaqiri who caused the damage

Are you day-dreaming on Neymar? The suggestion that Wenger who is notorious for cheap or free players could go for Neymar is simply absurd.Let him buy those that are within his reach in the persons of Gotze, Vento, Podolski etc and let us not denude ourselves with the pipe-dream of Neymar. Go get Vertonghen, forget Cahill please!!!!! Then add Podolski and Goetze and people will be absolutely afraid to play Arsenal just like when we were back on 02/03. Make these moves and we are set. Failure to sign a quality defender and a true #2 striker are not an option. This is pointless Wenger will probably not buy in January as he has said (in the past he has said that players wont have time to jell in January and prefers to buy end of season). He will instead be distraced with trying to get Theo, RVP and somone else to renew their contracts(just like the whole Cesc and Nasri drama) and then panic buy or worse embarass us again and get someone on loan again. Before anything in January some top players need to renew their contracts otherwise we are panic buying again and getting loaned players beginning for next season at the last minute.Wenger can get his hands on at least 100 million euros to buy players if he really wanted to and can raise more if he sold some of our excess baggage but he will never do that. So guys lets forget about the rumours as we will be disappointed as usual.

I think out of that list we need Vertonghen and Damaio. Our midfield doesn’t need any replacements at the moment as it has a lot of potential with the likes of Ramsey, Wilshere and Frimpong. Damaio would be the perfect back up for Van Persie as he and Vertonghen can replace Squillaci. Then all wee need to do is off load the dead waits left at Arsenal.

For me the good option are Gourcuff, Jan Vertonghen and Loic Remy. Because France players easy to adapt with EPL styles and games. (viera, petit, pires , nasri, diaby, henry, wiltord) all come from France and give fantastic game for arsenal………..france only lack of a good defender so that why i prefer vertonghen. one thing dont forget about Joey Campbell. we can call him back as a back up for RVP. campbell can add some good touch for arsenal

if wenger said it maybe its a clue. santos president said that spanish clubs are offering silly money for neymar.
if we make an offer and they agree maybe its time arsenal start including buyout clause in the contract. if he signs a 4 years deal with 200 millions buyout close then we will have nothing to worry about.
leandro damiao wouldnt win a work permit in the uk, he only has few caps for the brazil national team.

it seems people have forgot about players like remy and gamerio who for me either one would be perfect, also leighton baines is a must either in january or summer especially with santos being injured and gibbs being fragile, marouane, ashavin and squalacci “dont care for spelling” all have to go just simply not good enough for the league let alone arsenal, so please wenger buy top draw striker, left back and a central defender and we hopefully can challenge city for the league and push on in the champions league!

January is an important time as it can be used to inject new life into teams, look at when Redknapp saved Portsmouth from relegation a few years ago, it was by signing quality! We still lack the penetrative attacking midfield, someone in the Hazard and Gotze mould, Gotze would be my first choice! I think the chance to get an England international on the cheap-ish is a chance we shouldn’t let go, I’d be delighted if we moved for Cahill again. If not Cahill Vertonghen would be mint, not fussed about Alex. We clearly still need a predatory striker, something we lack. Neymar (we can dream), Daimaio or maybe Moussa Sow, someone in that mould anyway, would be fantastic and mean we can start playing RVP in the Bergkamp role <3.
