Arsenal rumours Jan 20th – Samba, Honda, Bendtner and Van Persie

Posted on January 20, 2011 by admin

With just ten days left of the window remaining there is still a steady stream of Arsenal transfer rumours arriving every day. Most of the papers seem to think that Wenger’s main defensive target is the Blackburn centre-back Christopher Samba, but there is little evidence to back up the story. In fact yesterday Samba himself admitted that Aston Villa were the only people talking to his club about a possible move.

“I heard about interest from Lyon, but there is no contact,” Samba said. “However, there is contact between Blackburn and Aston Villa.”

So that one doesn’t look very promising despite most Arsenal fans being quite keen on seeing Samba arrive….

Keisuke Honda is another popular arrival and his agent is trying hard to find the Japanese star a new club now that the Russian League is over. Honda is plying at the Asia Cup at the moment and Sport.co.uk report that representatives of Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa are expected to arrive in Qatar for talks with an agent.

“Several clubs have confirmed their interest.” Kees Pleogsma said..

“My son is going to Qatar tomorrow to have a number of meetings. But, we will have to wait and see who is seriously interested in Keisuke (Honda). You never know.

“Time is going fast in the window. I really hope something can happen, but I don’t know. As I said my son has a number of meetings, but so far nothing is concrete, we must wait and see.”

Honda was brilliant in the World Cup and would be a fantastic addition to any Premiership team, but would Wenger spend good money on an exciting star like that when he already has lots of kids coming through the ranks? I’m not convinced……

There are a couple of Nicklas Bendtner stories around as well, Footylatest has the Newcastle boss Alan Pardew having a go at taking him to Newcastle, while the Daily Telegraph reckons that West Ham are keen on the big Dane but have been put off by Arsenal’s £15m asking price. The report said: West Ham will now consider making a loan bid, although Arsenal indicated they would prefer to sell. Arsene Wenger may permit the Dane to go out on loan, but only towards the end of the window.

Thats an interesting one if its true. I know Bendtner is curently third choice striker, but with so many games coming up I can’t see Wenger letting any of them go until the summer at least……

Which brings me nicely to the last rumour, which says that Real Madrid are about to make a £25m bid for Robin Van Persie. It is hardly worth discussing as it comes from CaughtOffside, and they have followed it up this morning by saying that Arsenal are going to take the £25m and then give it back to Madrid for Sergio Ramos. Hmmm Wenger swap his best striker for a defender? I don’t think so!

yeah, wright 15 mil for bendtner ,no one sane in his mind won’t pay that much for this lassie so cold striker … he never scores goals on his on ,he just put the ball in to the net when he gets a pass in front of the goal ,he’s always out of position ,he has a really poor control in the ball ,he’s passes are really inaccurate ,he’s tall but he only scored 2 or 3 goals with his head … and he should have more goals under his belt ,he’s not playing in Italy, but as a striker the way he waists oportunities is simply stupid … so again ,who said that this guy is worth 15 mil ?

Unless Djourou or Koscielny breaks a leg in the next 10 days then you can forget about Wenger signing anyone. He hates spending money and he hates admitting he’s made mistakes so I’m sorry it’s just not going to happen

But it was Bendtner,s inch perfect cross onto van Perie,s head and Arsenal,s third goal that settled the replay ,an inch perfect cross that useless Sagna,so he scored a goal, cannot deliver at any time during any match ,or Clichy and Gibbs,so you,re just another fickle Arsenal fan who doesn,t know what you,re talking about from game to game not so JJ ?

at arsenal we really need a defender of John Terry s calibre 2 partner vermalean ,fullbacks ok,middle ok and forward is ok for this season.

  17. Diyar says:

We dont need any offensive players right now. We need a good defender because of Vermaelens uncertain comeback from injury.

Wengers decision to not buy a defender can really hurt our chances of winning a title. We know that J.Djorou is injury phrone and Squillaci/Koscielnye is not the best partnership.

If we end up with 0 titles then i dont want hear Wenger blaming on the injuries because right now he has a chance to save our season.

AW needs a Cb. Either Ciani or Mexes will do. If dont win a major Aw should be blamed.

how does C Vela to Sunderland on a loan move sound? good manager and they are short in numbers for strikers with bent gone and welback injured. I think it’ll give the guy some much needed to experience

  20. max.power says:

Look Mr Wenger won’t buy anyone this transfer window.
Come February he will be counting all the money he saved.
Arsenal will win nothing this season with the defence we
have, he knows this but won’t do anything about it.

  21. Ezat says:

Guys how many times AW have to do this to convince you he is not going to buy anyone now or even summer. This man is deliberately destroying Arsenal chances of winning anything.
Any one with right frame of mind knows what Arsenal needs now!!! at least one CB(top class not like Squlaaci etc…), a GK since both Almunia or Fab out of action!!
But the way I see it for the past 6 years he has no logic or understanding of the situation. He don’t care about us, only board members who pay his salaries matters. One last thing as I said during the summer transfer window, no player is good for him unless he speaks French, nobody want them, and cheap!!!!! There is no player in the world worth more than 12 M in his mind. This guy is Psycho!!!!

your all a bunch of fickle shits. it’d be nice to have better defence and some extra subs in the sense it’d be nice to fall into a bucket of naked women and money. ya no shit but it most likely aint gonna happen. im a fan and i enjoy watching arsenal play. when they lose it sucks obviously but i still prefer laying back and watching my team kick the ball about. im also not saying winning isnt everything because i’d love to see arsenal take the title back finally. any sane arsenal fan knows what we need but wenger wont spend. its politics he has investors who make more money by him not spending anything. i just read about one investor who owns like 27%ish and just constantly makes cash from his investment.

  24. realistic tony says:

Wenger has some strange ideas of player value.
He wont pay 15million for cahill who is a proven quality central defender in the premier league (the league he says he wants to win) AND YET HES PUT A PRICE OF 15 MILLION ON A VERY AVERAGE (SELF-PUBLICISED) STRIKER IN NB!!!!!!
IF I was owen coyle i would tell AW where to stick his offer, (if and when he makes one).Wenger wont sign anyone…we all know that……vermaelen wont be back for 6 weeks…will probably pull a hamstring when he returns and be sidelined for a further month. That leaves djourou and kos…a partnership that, to be fair, has some promise…but when squill has to return then the results will start to go wrong.NO NEW QUALITY CENTRAL DEFENDER NO TITLE OR CHAMPS LEAGUE AND MAYBE NO FA CUP. Its a shame but thats how i see it..carling cup? yes and lets be grateful….its a trophy.
If the season fizzles out with fourth place in the prem or worse then RVP may want to leave as well as cesc…so really what kind of thinking would risk losing them for the sake of a quality centre back that can make a significant improvement to the team.dumb thinking, thats what!

Jose Mourinho needs a striker… we need a CB… Ramos, worth 25m, (and IMO is as good a CB as RB) wants to leave Real… Bendtner, worth 15m (apparently), wants to leave Arsenal… anyone see where Im going with this…
Bendtner and 10m for Ramos… hahaha if only
