Arsenal rumours July 30th – Afellay, Melo, Fabregas, Marchetti and Schwarzer
The schizophrenic ramblings of Cesc Fabregas yesterday has reignited the Arsenal transfer rumours suggesting a replacement. Carlos Puyol’s outburst has suggested that Fabregas is being kept against his will, and if he demands a move when he meets with Wenger next week, Arsenal will be put in a no-win situation.
The Sun has struck the first blow today by saying that Wenger is considering an offer for Ibrahim Afellay. The PSV midfielder has been admired by Wenger for years, and is now entering the final season of his contract at the Dutch giants and will therefore be available for a cut-price £7m, which would be a sizeable saving if Barcelona stump up the necessary £50m for Fabregas.
Alellay’s agent Rob Jansen admitted: “It’s possible Ibrahim will want to stay at PSV but there is a chance of a move elsewhere. In football, you never know. There are teams interested in him for sure.”
So that is quite a tenuous link, but the Sun rarely lets a bad quote get in the way of a good story!
Caughtoffside also seems to be a bit desperate as they have reopened the Gael Clichy for Felipe Melo swap that was bandied about a few weeks ago. They reckon that Juventus will want £8m PLUS Clichy for Melo, and you have as much chance of that happening as there is for Wenger to send Barcelona a Christmas card this year!
Clichy is very happy at Arsenal. He signed a new contract last season, and sent out a rallying call this week saying that Arsenal must believe they can win a trophy this year. Toughen up lads! He doesn’t sound like he is going anywhere……..
The Daily Star reports that the Arsenal move for Federico Marchetti has hit an impasse. Cagliari have agreed to let the Italian international leave, but have put a 14m euro price tag on his head. Arsenal have reportedly offered just 6m euros, and with Wenger famous for not paying more than his personal valuation, he will drop out of negotiations if Cagliari don’t drop their demands. This means (yet again!) that Mark Schwarzer has risen back to the top of the list…..
The Mail is reporting that Schwarzer has told the Fulham board that, even with Mark Hughes appointed the new boss, he still wants to move to Arsenal for one year at the top before he retires. They reckon that Fulham are now considering Robert Green as the Australian’s replacement, but they are not happy of having to pay more for Green than they will get in for Schwarzer. Once Hughes gets settled in we can expect some announcement about who is going and who stays at Fulham. But how much longer can Arsenal wait for Schwarzer…..

No offense to th writer but all these rumors are garbage
i agree with nathan, none of these will happen, wenger doesnt buy
I see no reason why we should pay extra in a swap deal insolving Melo and clichy. Clichy is a class. Melo can’t go 4 games without a red card. It should just be a direct swap or Juve pay extra.
On Midfield Rumors:
Bit optimistic, but I read somewhere that a cash + player deal for Mertesacker may be on the cards as Werder want Rosicky. If that goes through, then midfielder rumors may be true (afellay, giovinco…etc) if AW wants to replace him.
Otherwise, I can’t see any of them happening. We’ve got so many midfielders that no-ones noticed Denilsons been skiving training.
One other thought might be that, knowing AW’s shrewd transfer policy, he won’t spend big on a high profile replacement for Cesc next season (or when he eventually goes). So might want to buy someone now to develop them. Which would make Afellay/Giovinco contenders.
That said, for me, Nasri and Wilshere are both ready to step up.
all the barca players are painfully stupid. i wouldnt even care if fab left this summer. the point is they need to cough up the right money! iniesta said he could win us the premiership on his own is that not worth 50 mil?
Yeah, the rumors are garbage. But they’re interesting, and that’s why we read them. I say, kudos to admin for his work on this site. Personally, I like his/her combination of reporting (”…they have reopened the Gael Clichy for Felipe Melo swap…”) and commentary (”He doesn’t sound like he is going anywhere…”). I hope he/she gets enough ad revenue to make it worthwhile.
Keep it up, admin. Like you, I’m looking forward to the day I can read about Diakhate, Jagielka, Asamoah, Honda, or whomever else Wenger draws out of the woodwork.
Thanks Danny. It’s nice to be appreciated for a change!
Reporting the rumours every day can make one a little cynical when you know that 95% of them are garbage, but I think I am getting good at weeding out the “possibles” from the “no chances”…..
Cesc can go we have got a play maker in form of Nasri.
my problem is arsenwengar why can’t him just spend money and buy a plys. aw.is d cos of all dis shit. one luv gunner’s fan….()

I’m a fan of psv, and it’s a fact that Wenger is interested in Afellay.
It’s Robin van Persie who likes to play with ibrahim,
Watch the pre world champion games, those two, in one team is deadly.
PSV wants to sell Afellay because he only have a 1 year contract, and otherwise he walks out free next year
Its like all the roumers r not materialising im fed up lets wait and see what AW will do.
can wenger for 1 season just blow it please or god forbid we will lose our place in the top 4 and struggle to keep out best players. If we fail this year im expecting a full scale exodus players, manager and all which may be for the best.
for god sake pls forget mark shit.. look for another good enough keeper for arsenal.
arsene always looks for a cheaper one with some quality.
Melo melo melo please buy him please !!!!!
your all gassin dickheadssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
